Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 1 episode 8 of The Bad Batch!!!  WHOA.....not even sure what to say about this one!  We have an encounter with Crosshair and his new crew, and wow does he mean business!!  I don't think there's any way to reason with him at this point, as we see he's more than willing to kill his former brothers.  The worst part is he knows all their tricks....although our crew is pretty good at rolling with the changes when they need to, so they can out-think him fairly fast!  Last but not least, my SHEER ELATION at the appearance of Cad Bane!!!!!!!!!!!  Only to be followed by crushing defeat and heartbreak!  Thank God Hunter is still alive, but Omega.......they got her!!!  :O  That last 3 minutes was a whirlwind!  Can't wait to see what happens next!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Man, what a whirlwind of an episode. Crosshair, Cad Bane, the shootout, Omega being taken. Interestingly enough, this is the first time we've seen Cad Bane since the Unfinished Boba Fett episodes in which Boba and Cad had a shootout like in this episode. So until this episode we thought he was dead. And in some concept art for this episode there's a face plate where Boba shot him, implying that it still happened but Cad was able to survive his injury. Fun fact: the HUD that we saw from Hunter's perspective after he was shot, is in reference to the HUD from the video game, Republic Commando. Fitting since the Batch is partially inspired by Delta Squad, Clone Commandos from Republic Commando. I love this show lol

Wrecker showing Omega the ropes in disarming some explosive devices (which she failed at!). He mentions he failed his first time too, which I think is evident by the scars and loss of eyesight on his face! I like Echo and Hunter's dialogue. Hunter is wanting to keep them in low profile for all their sake, especially Omega; Echo is just like Rex, a soldier to the core, loyal to his definition of the Republic. Its a dynamic that gets brought up several times, as it asks what the Bad Batch themselves should be? Soldiers fighting against the Empire? Or a family who look after each other. This period is all about change, and choosing sides, as Rafa said. Rex has chosen his, what about our crew? Omega asked the wrong person about the war, Tech is totally logical and can think no other way. Perhaps she should ask Echo, though I hope he would leave the part out about him being turned into half-droid by the separatists. As Kanan later says, "battles leave scars, some you can't see". Crosshair is my favourite of the Bad Batcher's, but man is he cold "aim for the kid..."; of course this is the chip speaking, but he was always cut-throat if you remember how he acted when we first met him in the Clone Wars arc where our squad was introduced, and him clashing with Jesse and Rex. Using the ship as a weapon against the imperials, hints that not all the republic is gone yet. And Crosshair took an engine blast to the face, ouch! We all screamed at Cad Bane showing up, he's not just a bounty hunter, but THE bounty hunter! Hunter is quick on the draw, but he's not Cad Bane quick... This was made before the Book Of Boba Fett, and so we didn't know what happened to Cad Bane. In an unfinished episode of Clone Wars, he duels with Boba, and Cad Bane gets taken down but gives Boba his helmet dent. So whether that duel has occured yet, we don't know - if they canonised it since it remained unfinished. Ah yeah I wondered about the face plate, which we see when we see him again, so the duel must have happened. I should check out the trivia and concept art for this show; I was always doing it throughout Rebels, so should do it her to pick up some other tidbits!

Let’s scurry back to the start of the episode first - it does seem like the Kaminoans and the Empire are increasingly at odds - and at one point the Prime Minister told Nala Se that their “contingency plan” was being put in jeopardy. By now this definitely should be taken as something to do with Omega: but what, exactly? I wonder if the disarming tactic Wrecker was trying to teach Omega will come back into play later? Also, Wrecker with a proton torpedo is not a kind of “ship” I was expecting to see… and now I really can’t unsee it… Speaking of intel, what did Tech take from the ship? Could it be important? The whole cat and mouse game kind of reminds me of some Jojo encounters but the stakes are a lot grittier. It’s pretty much “I know that you know that I know, but do you know that I know you know?” The reason our crew won is because they did something absolutely insane because Crosshair forced them to. I think his personality is still there, but the chip is aiming it. Also he clearly went straight for Omega, but why? It’s not like the Empire knows what she is. Also, raise your hand if you had Cad Bane on the bingo card. Anyone? No? Didn’t think so… We’ll, things are never easy when he pops in for a visit but… they certainly aren’t going to be… dull. I guess this just turned into a rescue mission. What was that someone was asking Hunter about what they were supposed to do besides soldier again…? 😅

I know right! Ohhh that's interesting, I hadn't thought of that with the timing and wondering if Cad Bane survived! Oh that's awesome about the reference to Republic Commando!! I'd love to see the trivia/concept art, I bet there's a lot of good stuff in there!

Yeah, I'm curious!! I wouldn't be surprised if it came back into play later!!! Hahahha Wrecker with a proton torpedo is such a sight to see :P Oh yeah I could see the Jojo similarties. So much back and forth / strategizing / one-upping!! Hahaha no way, I didn't see it coming for a second! Here we go with the rescue mission. And lol yeah seriously!!!! :P

Yes, I love that teaching moment! Yeah I think Wrecker's had a few near misses too lol. I agree about the dialogue, there's some huge questioning of where to go next and essentially who they are. So true, Kanan's words echo very true here! (No pun intended with the echo mention haha.) I know, I couldn't believe Crosshair! Good call that he's always been a bit ruthless, but still. He got a nasty injury for sure! LOL yay I'm glad I wasn't the only one! Yeah no one is Cad Bane quick (well, his last battle perhaps suggest otherwise). Oh wow, no kidding about the timing! Ohhh it was an unfinished ep, got it! But still, this must have been a huge occasion to finally see what happens next. Wow, thanks for the link, I need to listen to it!!! The music change up was good too, thanks for pointing it out!
