Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 1 episode 16 of The Bad Batch!!!  I think we're getting to see the layers at work with Crosshair here, even though it's still very frustrating!  When it comes down to it, this truly was a matter of someone's heart leading them down the wrong path, and it splintering a family - it happens all the time in real life, yet it's so shocking to watch here, knowing it wasn't really programming or anything.  I do think that Crosshair still cares for his brothers, and we even see that he helps save Omega here, but wow....there's just a lot to unpack there, and I'm not sure if he'll ever be on our side again.  Or maybe he'll switch sides but it will be too late??  Anywho, AWESOME season you guys, cannot wait for more! Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

That clone's voice as he tells Rampart that Kamino is destroyed, is telling. They obeyed his orders, and destroyed all the cities (it was a genocide) but this was their home... That is one strong vibroblade Wrecker has, to be able to pry open a blastdoor, whats it made from, beskar? :D The music as the building they are in, with the embryonic tubes, crashes to the ocean floor, is harrowing. Kiner kills it again. AZ isn't one of my favourite droids, but he is a little boss this episode, helping them escape and cutting through things to get access to other areas and switching on the power when they are attacked by the giant sea creature. Also later in the episode when they are riding the caspules to the surface and he escorts them up to the surface. He's the MVP here. Crosshair needs to go on his path and see what being an Imperial is. The rest are on a different one. Kamino was the first of the worlds decimated by the Empire, it won't be the last. At the start of the first episode we saw the Clone Wars logo appear then burn out to reveal the Bad Batch logo. Seeing Tipoca City fall like this, the clones now scattering and being replaced, and the Bad Batch splitting up; this episode shows to us, that the Clone Wars and the republic has very much ended, and that this is now the new order.

I got the impression a lot of this episode in particular might have been inspired by Titanic with all the water based shenanigans. Anybody else getting that vibe? Anyway, most of the episode is just like one giant escape plot - the most telling thing, of course, is that Crosshair is basically forced to work with everyone else to survive. It’s interesting that Tech points out a lot of the way Crosshair acts is just his inherent nature, including his severe bluntness and unwillingness to change his mind. You thought Omega was going to “talk no jitsu” but in a way that’s really an overused trope and I think it’s more interesting that they’re NOT taking the easier route there story wise. However - let’s think about that statement for a second - while Crosshair has always acted in a fairly predictable pattern, think about the other clones in 98. Are they any different? Have you ever seen Hunter, Echo, Tech or Wrecker do something out of the character they’ve established? Now I am not sure about this: it could have been a dialogue error but it caught my ear: When Omega is talking to Crosshair she specifically says, I was alone until the FOUR of you came along. There are five Bad Batchers and if she’s talking to Crosshair, and it’s not a dialogue mistake… who’s the odd clone out here? It seems that even though Crosshair is dead set on what he believes, he’s still got enough of a conscience to return a favor, when he saves Omega. Here’s something interesting: everyone is looking at what’s basically their home being destroyed but… once the facilities were all wiped out, I think that’s the first time we ever saw it not raining on this planet? Coincidence? The final shot of the episode involving the main cast is pretty telling: The ship is flying away and Crosshair is just standing on a bare platform, surrounded by nothingness. This is where his choice has put him currently. Just because you disagree with someone about a certain topic doesn’t mean that their opinions aren’t valid and you don’t matter to them as a person. Granted, we have the benefit of foresight regarding the Empire, but keep in mind he does not. But for this particular case, Crosshair was given a choice and decided to stay. So whatever consequences are his to deal with. Hopefully the fact that Hunter said “we don’t have to be enemies” will give him something to consider. As for Nala Se… I’m still unclear if she set up everyone or she’s a victim. Kaminoans aren’t exactly… expressive. 😂 That’s all for now, though!

I'd probably say Echo is the "odd clone out" in your discussion as he joined them after Skako Minor

That Imperial scientists outfit looks a lot like the one Dr. Pershing was wearing in The Mandalorian???? Hmmmm 🤔

2023-03-02 20:45:31 The ultimate betrayal of the Kaminoan’s and the Clones. And the empire even had Clones following orders involved in the betrayal. And what is the plan the Empire has for Nala Se? Does this register to the Mandalorian and the Rise of Skywalker?

Manny

Wow weirdly a part of me kinda wants to give Crosshair a little hug. 🫂

kamenriderhime

Yikes, that's dark! Hmm, I'm curious if maybe it does relate to things that come later!!! Considering her background in genetics and whatnot...

kamenriderhime

I know, there was a lot in that one line! Lol good point about the blade!!! The music was incredible, agreed. AZ was so good in this!!! Totally MVP!!! Yeah, I suppose Crosshair needs to see this through. They are on different paths for sure. Sad to think this was the first of many worlds destroyed by the Empire. Good point, this was truly the end of the entire Clone Wars era, in so many ways!!

kamenriderhime

I can see the Titanic vibes!!! Albeit, I've actually never seen that movie (SHOCK!!). I agree, it was kinda novel to not have Omega talk no jitsu Crosshair here. True, all our clone friends here are probably acting the way they were "programmed", to a degree. I agree with Jeremy that the four clones line was probably because of Echo, but that's something you haven't gotten to in Clone Wars yet, so don't worry about it lol! Crosshair definitely still has a conscience, which is what makes this even more tragic and interesting. Well, I hadn't thought about that with the rain! Maybe all the tech interfered with atmospheric conditions? Typically it's the other way around lol. That's the thing, we the audience know how this will play out, so we know it's the wrong call...but at the end of the day, these are just two different paths that they each have to see through on their own. I'm not clear about Nala Se either, although folks are suggesting there might be ties to the Mandalorian and Rise of Skywalker here!

This weeks season 2 Bad Batch episode was a good one but I’ll say no more: I reckon you will definitely like it when you see it ;-)

Nick

The scientist reminds me of the Zillo beast scientist.

Saltire

A lot of people found this season finale rather underwhelming, I suppose they were expecting something more grand. However this is a story about clones and their place in the galaxy as it is being remade; and the destruction of their home represents to us that they are now going to wander the galaxy aimless, without a home, and are soon to be tossed aside for project War-Mantle. Not a very fitting end for the supposed heroes of the war. To me this feels more like the ending of Empire Strikes Back, where everything is up in the air and that there are more questions than answers, so to me this was fitting.

kamenriderhime

Hmm, interesting! I feel like it aligned really well with what the story is about. I agree, this feels a lot more like a "to be continued" situation that an epic ending to this arc!

Saltire

This week's episode was the best episode of Bad Batch, period! I really enjoyed Mando, but Bad Batch was superb. You have much to look forward to Mel! :D

Nick

Well, Mel, I don’t know when you will be watching the second season of Bad Batch but having just finished watching it, you are going to like it! Personally I think the second season is the stronger season, with a lot of stuff happening 😎 I’ve now got to start catching up on your reactions to the latest Mandalorian season.

kamenriderhime

Hey Nick! I plan on watching it as soon as Mandalorian ends, so in a few weeks! WOW! Sounds like I have a lot to look forward to! Hope you enjoy my Mandalorian reactions!!!

Nick

Hi Mel, I am sure I will enjoy your reactions :-) On a separate, and ridiculously exciting note, the first Ahsoka Teaser trailer has been released today due to this Star Wars Celebration thingy going on. I don’t know if you intend to avoid these trailers or to watch them but it was jaw droppingly good imo. You would have loved it to bits for all sorts of reasons I had better not go into, in case you are trying to avoid any and all information about the show before you watch it. But I will say that I think you would have loved the music and I hope it’s the theme tune for the series. Oh, it’s definite if you didn’t know: the Ahsoka series comes out this August. I am going to really struggle to wait patiently that long!

kamenriderhime

Aww thanks!!! :) And OMG, guess who's uploading their reaction to it RIGHT NOW...!!! XD What a phenomenal trailer, and I'm so excited it's coming in August!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait that long either though!!!!!!!! I want it to be now XD

Nick

I am this second still watching your reaction to the Ahsoka trailer on YouTube: it came into my feed about 6 mins ago and you are still raving and frothing at the mouth on the screen as I type 😁😁😁

kamenriderhime

Hahaha I got a little frothy for this one :P I just saw your comment!!!!! Thanks for helping boost my YT video!!! Was that trailer amazing or what?!!?!?

Nick

It was brilliant - clicked like too. I’ll save my other comments for you trailer on Patreon :-)

kamenriderhime

Awww thank you!!!! XD Sounds good! I typically don't jump into YT comments due to spoilers but today I figured what the heck, there's probably not much harm when it comes to this series! (I think the trailer is the most current thing out there right now haha)

Nick

Yes I would have thought you were safe from most spoilers on this one. It’s been a little while since your epic Rebels series reactions. How do you feel about the show now you have had time to digest it? Perhaps you have watched the show all through again, or perhaps you haven’t had time?

kamenriderhime

Yeah there's not much new anyone can tell me haha, I just always have to be careful of unrelated spoilers from other series being left in comments too :/ Wow, that's a great question! I haven't been able to rewatch it but I've certainly had some time to reflect. Quite honestly, I think it's one of my favorite Star Wars series if not my favorite! But it's hard to choose it over Clone Wars since I think a lot of my love for it was built up by having seen Clone Wars. It has a big place in my heart!!!!!!!!!!

Nick

I think Rebels is growing in fame and popularity now, and as Saltire said, becoming essential viewing, surely especially for anyone intending to watch the Ashoka series. Actually, this reminds me: I don’t think you have reacted to the Rebels shorts yet: I seem to remember you saying you might do that?? Also, I don’t know if you seen the Kanan tribute by Heroes Fan Productions yet, but you might like to watch it for yourself (rather than publicly get through a box of tissues on a reaction video 😭🙂). It’s the best Star Wars one they have made - or at least it’s well up there!!

kamenriderhime

I think so too! And yeah, it's definitely gonna be essential viewing for the upcoming series! Ohhhh I have not seen the shorts, you're right! Or the tribute!!! :O Perhaps I'll add those to the list, as it stands there might be a few weeks gap between what I'm watching after Bad Batch season 2 and the premiere of Ahsoka, that seems like it could be the perfect spot! I'm going to need several packs of tissues for that reaction!!!!! :O I can barely think about Kanan without tearing up!!!!!

Nick

Well, if you want to include these reactions in your schedule then I won’t complain: quite the opposite :-)

Cody

This got me really emotional the first time. Seeing Tipoca City get destroyed felt so devastating, we’re truly seeing the end of an era with this show. Sure we’ve gotten the Tales series since this first season, but at least timeline wise it really feels like the end of the prequel era. I’m so excited for s3 with everything you’ve said about Omega and Crosshair. You were ahead of the curve lol.

kamenriderhime

Omg I know right?! This really does feel like the end of an era! Oooh I hope you love my later reactions too!!! I'm so glad I was on to something here lol!
