Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to episode 2 of the third season of The Mandalorian!!!!  Whoa!!  What a great ep for Grogu!!  And for getting to know Bo-Katan a bit better!  I was reveling in all the scenes where she talked about her past, omg!!!!  What a touching moment to, to watch someone who is so devoted to "the way" experience something so substantial!  And lucky that she was there, since that was a BIG drop!  Grogu was SO GROWN UP in this one, flying the ship, going to get help, saving his daddy!!!!!!!  I was so proud of him!  Wow guys, I'm excited for where this is all going!  Can't wait!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

I just can’t get over how good Amy Sedaris is. That whole scene could have felt superfluous but I loved every second of it. She spoke Jawanese without a hint of irony for crying out loud haha.

It wasn't a beast it was the Mythosaur Bo saw Mel. R5 is the same astromech that the Jawa's tried to flog to Owen and Luke! So this whole episode with him is one big joke on the line from that film, that he has a bad motivator! :D God I love Star Wars! Remember the first time we saw Satine, the palace and the courtyard (and in the ruins you could make it all out from what was seen in Clone Wars), with the city surrounding it? To see it all came to this would devastate her had she lived. The Mandalorians were determined to go on a path of self-destruction however, and the Empire merely hastened that destiny. Din having to babysit R5 and Grogu, he truly has become Mando Dad! The creatures and that horrible robot eye thing, are great in this episode. LOVE the fight choreography in this episode. We see Mando is a brawler, used to fighting and taking down the dregs of civilisation as a bounty hunter, then how crude he is fighting and still having issues with the Darksabre. Then Bo comes in and shows just how its done. She's an elite soldier/warrior and has been fighting the best around for decades; and by god she knows how to wield the Darksabre, she makes it look effortless. Bo tells Din of her recent story; she regrets all the infighting but is obviously still steadfast in her belief of what happened with her sister, as she is unapologetic. There is a touch of hypocrisy there that her idea of a strong Mandalore back then, and perhaps still, was that the warrior class should be in charge, yet accepts perhaps her sister was right that the infighting would bring about Mandalore's demise. What makes her fascinating to me, is she seems to represent the dichotomoy of the Mandalorian civilisation, where they are supposed to all be as one and stick together; yet have centuries long wars with each other that almost destroyed their planet way before all this. She tried to keep the clans together during her long battle with the Empire; but we see just how tenuous the others stick to this creed, when they disperse once they think nothing is left. Ironically, Mando's bunch of extremists are thriving. I thought we may go down the path of Din and Bo having to fight it out for the Darksabre in the climax of this season; but they may actually get together! They are complete opposites, Din was an orphan, Bo a princess; Din believes in the prophecies and stories of Mandalore, and Bo - until this ep - didn't. Bo also doesn't expect the purity of Din's devotion to his cause, and this surprises and almost moves her, and may also help snap her out of her ennui; and help her try to convince the clans, that not all yet is lost, if there are people like Din out there who still believe in the creed. If you've seen the Holiday Special (which Lucas hates and Favreau loves), you see Boba riding the Mythosaur there. The rifle he wields in it, is the same long one Din had in season 1. Now whether us seeing this in live actually canonises the creature or not, we'll see next ep. However I almost want it to have been a vision that Bo saw (Din didn't see it as he was unconscious). This vision could be the spark that gives Bo her spark back to help reunite the people - perhaps with Din at her side, especially if he can bring his own sect on board too. Another fun ep!

First, hopefully it’s a little less taxing on you not trying to record the reactions and put them up on the same day? Regarding the episode itself - we’ll, Peli has got quite the scam going, doesn’t she? First she gets the Jawas to strip speeders, and then after the victim pays for repairs they put them back on. Speaking of hustle, did you hear her trying to sell Din on R5 like it was R2-D2 or Chopper? (While I’m at it, did anyone else pick up that Chopper isn’t in the Star Wars intro for this series?) I don’t know a ton about what happened to Mandalore yet based on where I am in CW but both Concordia and jet packs have made an appearance - and both showed up in another show. I think you know where I am going with this… By the way, the set design for this episode looks really intricate. Props to whoever is making it look like it is. “We should leave Grogu with a babysitter.” That’s the worst idea you’ve had all week. 😂 As soon as R5 went behind the big rock I’m like “he’s gonna vanish from the radar, isn’t he?” Every time anyone in this franchise goes anywhere and mentions “we can’t communicate with the outside” that should be an automatic “I have a really bad feeling about this.” Yes, Grogu is an MVP this episode, but before I highlight some details, I’d like to point out that technically he’s older than 95% of us… remember he’s basically able to get his own AARP card already. Grogu up until this point has been, well, basically, the McGuffin. People are either fighting to save him or to capture him and while he does the occasional force save, he’s been pretty much window dressing. But it seems like he really is understanding everything that he’s being told, which is why he was able to get Bo-Katan. It’s nice to see him be more active in the actual plot. As soon as I saw the needle for Din I’m like, I know someone who is NOT going to take this scene well… not sure what exactly the motivation was for it though. Bo-Katan has used the Dark Saber before so it makes sense she’s better at handling it… she just doesn’t have the right to ownership. Mandalore for the most part seems to be being used as a cautionary tale - if you spend so much time quibbling and arguing over everything then you leave yourself vulnerable to outside forces. A house divided cannot stand. I’m not sure what Bo-Katan was snapping at Grogu about while they were talking about her family, but for some reason the thought came to mind - you’re not pulling an Anya and starting to ship them, are you? 👀 “Without our Creed, what are we?” With a people so scattered, it makes sense there would be a deeper value on what makes them “them.” We all have things we use to identify ourselves - and while Bo-Katan is skeptical, there is value in not forgetting what makes a Mandalorian identity unique. She might think it’s fairy tales, but there’s a whole different series we’re focusing on for that currently. You know. Okay, I’m not sure Din is redeemed yet… he was reciting the same creed the kid in episode 1 did and he was interrupted… but you know that beastie might have been the Mythosaur that they were talking about - that is supposed to signal a golden age? Typical protagonist stuff. This is the way.

OHHHHHHH that was the Mythosaur, got it! No kidding about R5, that's amazing! Oof, I don't even wanna think of Satine having to see all this. It's true that Mandalor was on a self-destructive path, and Palpatine, as he did with everything, took advantage of a bad situation. Mando Dad!!!! Lol! The fight scenes were awesome, and the contrast with the way that Bo handles the darksaber.....shoot! There's definitely a lot of conflicting ideas in Bo-Katan's thinking, that's a good point. I'd love it if they ended up partners or more! I have seen the holiday special but I'm not sure if I saw the whole thing through. That's awesome that he was riding the Mythosaur!! It would be even more interesting if it was actually a vision, that definitely adds a bit more of a spiritual / supernatural element. It was a fun ep!

kamenriderhime

Yeah, it helps to put it out the next day! Haha it's quite the little racket for sure! I keep missing that Chopper isn't in the intro but I think you're right, is it cause they tucked another character in his place? Not sure. Lol she is quite the salesperson though. I tried to be careful what I said about CW because you have a lot to cover there once you get to the Mandalore part :) The set design is great for sure! Hahah it's a good thing Grogu didn't get left at a babysitter's because he ended up saving his daddy's life! But it still pains me to see the baby in tense situations! This whole ep was one big bad feeling about this lol. Grogu is older but in his species' time, he's still just a baby! It is really cool to see him more active in the plot! LOL the needle scene was an instant NOPE for me! Also if I had to guess I'd say maybe it was trying to drain blood as one would with cooking an animal? Not sure. Bo-Katan knows her way around the darksaber for sure, it was just really nice to see her do her thing! Haha if you mean a Mando/Bo-Katan ship, you might be onto something! So true about the deeper meaning/value of the spiritual aspects of Mandalore, especially under the circumstances. I just now learned that the beastie is supposed to be the Mythosaur! That would definitely change things a bit lol. This is the way :D

I was in awe when they showed the surface of Mandalore. When we see it in Clone Wars and Rebels aside from the city Sundari that we see here it’s basically a desert wasteland. And now they literally glassed the surface of the planet. They said it was the Empire’s fusion bombs, so I’m guessing the bombs caused the grains of sand to fuse into crystal/glass. And holy crap, we got to see the Mythosaur! Hearing about the history of this thing and the freaking Christmas Special, I was so hyped they actually put it in the show!

kamenriderhime

Yeah that's true, it was like a desert! They must have really done a number on it to turn all that to glass, sheesh. The Mythosaur!!!! I love that they've brought in a few things from the holiday special now (like Life Day)!!! :D

Cody

I honestly probably shouldn’t have been surprised about the Mythosaur as I was, cause Jon Favreau loves the Christmas Special apparently, but I don’t know I just figured it’d be extinct or something. Now I get why they had the Armorer talking about the Mythosaur in the Previously On. XD

I honestly only let the previously segments play out for my mom so she knows what’s going on, I usually skip it when I watch by myself lol

It amuses me how Bo Katan gives Mando shit about and mocks him for being such a literal adherent to The Creed but is super strict about the rules governing who wields the Dark Saber. Pick your dogma, I guess. Mando is like a TradCath and Bo Katan is a mainline Protestant (and a heretic in Mando's eyes). Bo Katan has her own doctrinal hangups so maybe people living in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, etc...

kamenriderhime

Yeah I hear you, I guess it all depends on what you decide is most important. That's a good comparison actually!!! It's an interesting point for sure.
