Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to episode 4 of the third season of The Mandalorian!!!!  OMG!!!!!!!!!  So much going on in this one!!!  The awesome character growth we got to see with Bo-Katan here would have been enough to satisfy me by itself, but adding in Grogu's flashbacks...!!!!  I'm still in shock over it!!! THE CAMEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  It was even more awesome once I realized who it was!!!
And Grogu learning how to be a good foundling is everything.  Speaking of foundlings, I loved seeing Bo Katan back in action, being a leader, and learning the ways of her new group!  I think this could be really good for her.  And are we cool with Paz Visla now, finally?!!?  Omg guys, this might be my fave ep of the season yet!
Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Good to see Ahmed Best back and be the Jedi to rescue Grogu. He actually played Mace Windu in a scene in Phantom Menace as well, so its not the first time he's played a Jedi Knight. I believe the Knight he is playing is from one of the young kids Star Wars shows (and I think he plays Master Kellerin in it too), which is awesome. Would love to see what became of Jar-Jar after the war; there is an old Legends story about him becoming a street entertainer for kids on Naboo, but thats not canon; and whilst the character was never my cup of tea; he had a pure heart, and so I hope he found some peace. Note the ship that carries off both of them was a Naboo ship as a nod to Jar-Jar. ;) Grogu's recollection of Order 66 happens as his chestpiece is being made, as you note, is similar to Din in season 1 when he was rescued by Death Watch and became a Foundling. Grogu seemed to have a guard when the clones attack of four Jedi, is that significant? Why did he have a guard and others didn't? Is it because of his species, that because he is long-lived the hope would be that at sometime when things calm down, he can restore the Jedi Order? Interesting. His animatronic is really impressive, the way he stood up and picked up the crab was well done. No CGI there. That kid Ragnar seems to be what the old superstitious sailors called a Jonah. Every time he goes near the water, some giant beastie comes for him! First the turtle/croc thing, and now this ruddy dragon! :D Bo-Katan seems to be settling into life here, how long that will last we'll see. However she impresses with her natural leadership abilities and helps rescue Paz's son (and Paz I have no issue with, he is a bit dogmatic, but he helped Mando when he was in need in season 1) which he will be indebted to her in the future, as Din is. I would still prefer the Mythosaur to have been a vision of her's in the waters, though it could work either way for the eventual outcome of her story in this season, what ever that may be. This episode whilst short, told the story of what it wanted to well about all the foundlings (even the dragon babies, that Grogu will tame!) and was another enjoyable one this season. Carl Weathers directing once again too, nice! And Temuera Morrison back as the clones, all good stuff. As for the timeline in your post-reaction, I believe we are another two years on from season 1 at this point which would make it 7 years after ROTJ and so its 30 years after Order 66 and the establishment of the Empire, a nice round number. Grogu would be 52 and btw he is the same age as what Anakin/Vader was which is wild to think about. On ages, Bo-Katan must be doing something right as she must be around 60 at this point!

This episode is a lot more straightforward than the previous one, so there isn’t quite as much to unpack. I meant to say it a couple weeks ago, but Grogu’s time training with Luke obviously wasn’t a waste (especially when he went rescue team force all by himself.) I think when Din put him in a challenge it wasn’t so much a quizzical plea as “come on, are you really going to make me do this? Dude’s too easy!” It seems that there’s always something plaguing the Mandalorians, this week it just happened to be a Jurassic Park design reject. 😁 So, we certainly are getting a lot of Coruscant lately… and Jedi Jar-Jar is the one who saved Grogu? You can’t make this stuff up… right? 👀 For an outsider, Bo-Katan seems to have settled into her role quite quickly and quite stable… she even has the respect of the other soldiers. Paz Viszla’s son is named Ragnar, which brings up questions regarding Vinland Saga… XD But maybe he’ll be a little nicer to them now. “There’s always a bigger fish.” Were you watching me? Cause that’s exactly what I said! XD It seems that there is no higher calling for a Mandalorian than protecting the foundlings or children, which explains a lot of why Din acts the way he does… also if we can train those raptors they might be useful. Either way it seems everyone is getting quite comfortable in their new roles here… maybe it… is starting to feel a little bit like home for them. We’re at the halfway point… the main story plot - whatever it is - needs to start soon, you would think? This is the way.

No kidding that he played Mace Windu in a scene!!! Yes, I looked it up after and suddenly remembered clips of the show that I'd seen ages ago - that's so awesome! Nice nod with the Naboo ship! I like that story about Jar Jar, I hope they bring it into canon at some point!!! Or something equally as much of a happy ending! It was a nice callback to have this scene be similar to Din's in season 1. That's a good question, I kind of assumed the guards were because he was such a young infant, but some to think of it, some of the other younglings were pretty young too....so that definitely suggests something! I wonder if they were priming him to restore the Jedi Order?? So true about the animatronics! That looked amazing! I forget I'm watching a puppet sometimes! LOL that's so true about the "Jonah" thing, he did almost get taken out last time too, didn't he! Good point that Paz helped Mando way back, even if things have been a bit tense between them recently, he seems decent! Seeing Bo Katan have somewhere to belong is great, although I'm not sure how permanent it is either. Interesting, it does hold a lot of weight as strictly a vision, now come to think of it! Ohhhh yeah Grogu has that special animal-calming thing!!!! Good point! OMG I didn't even realize that was Temeura Morrison!!! That's so awesome! If I hear any clones at this point, my mind just fills in the blank that it must be Dee Bradley Baker :P Thanks for clearing that up about the timeline, actually it is wild that Grogu and Anakin/Vader are the same age!!! But it also helps keep track of his age/timeline that way. WHOA!!!! I never even thought of that, that Bo Katan must be close to 60!!!! Maybe Mandalorians age more slowly?!?!

Oh yeah, that training is gonna come in super handy! Aww haha it probably was more of a "this is too easy" in retrospect. LOL the set of Jurassic Park crash landed this week! I mean, if you'd told me at the beginning of this season we'd get lots of Coruscant, Clone Wars flashbacks, and the return of Ahmed Best, I'm not sure if I'd believed you or not! I know, Bo Katan is settling in nicely! HAHAHAHAHA omg clearly Paz was a fan of Vinland Saga :P LOL we are both big Qui-Gon stans I guess :P That's a good point about how important foundlings are, as well as how nice it would be to have some raptors on our side once they're trained. I'd say everything's going pretty well for sure! But yeah, we're for sure still setting up for whatever the big main plot will be.....if I had to guess, I'd say it involves Pershing and maybe, just maybe, Kelleran????? This is the way!

Yes it is a weird scene in Phantom Menace. Next time you watch the film, look out for the celebration right at the end of the film. As the Jedi come off the ship and Palpatine tells Anakin he'll watch his career with great interest; look at the Jedi; Ahmed is playing Mace Windu, Yoda isn't CGI and instead is played by Warwick Davies, and Depa Bilaba is there too as a pang to our boy Kanan later! :D I like the story too about Jar-Jar. Sure it isn't high office, like he had, but he can bring a touch of happiness for some by performing his goofy antics, which would give some joy at a dark time. I think Paz in Book Of Boba specifically, saw Din struggling with the Darksabre, and figured with him being a descendant of Tarre Viszla, that it would be better in his hands. However, since Din bested him in the fight, I think he has giving up on getting that back and perhaps sees others like Din and Bo-Katan, have a better claim to it. John Favreau still does the voice for Paz Viszla, as he did Pre Viszla in Clone Wars; however its someone else in the armour now; and I don't know if you know, its mainly the same with Pedro Pascal playing Din. He occasionally is in the suit, but its mainly two others who physically play Din now, with Pedro just lending his voice, since he is so popular and doing everything these days (and I'm watching The Last Of Us just now with him, and if you haven't seen it Mel, check it out). Katee Sackoff thankfully is always in Bo-Katan's armour, and she recently made a comment about trying to act while having a helmet on, and she likes to review all her takes to make sure Bo's body language comes across, and how its a different type of acting. Interesting stuff. I hear you about forgetting that Tem Morrison always does the live clones when we are so used to Dee Bradly Baker. Wait till you get to season 2 of Bad Batch, the amount of work and voices he gets through in the second season is phenomenal. I hope he gets paid very well for the privilege, since he carries that show. I do think they should tell us a time at the start of every season of a show, so we can keep track of it all. With all the jumping around between the Republic, Empire and early New Republic, you do sometimes have to do a fair amount of mental arithmetic! :D

I’m so glad to see Bo-Katan back in action. She got her spark back and kicking butt 💙

kamenriderhime

Oh wow!!!!! I need to see that scene again!!! I think that story is perfect for Jar Jar, and I love that it's lighthearted for such a dark time like you said. Yeah I think you're right, there was some tension there with Paz, but recent events have probably changed that. Oh no kidding about the voice vs. who's in the armor! I'm honestly kind of used to that since I watch a lot of Kamen Rider lol. But it's cool that it's still Katee in the armor. It's so cool that she's very invested in how she conveys everything in the suit. Oh wow, I can't wait for Bad Batch season 2!!!! Dang! A time might be helpful; I have the loose idea of it but since I watch a lot of Star Wars, it can be tricky to jump around so much!!

Cody

This episode was awesome! I’m on the exact same page with you about Ahmed, I didn’t know that was him till I saw everyone mentioneing it on Twitter and it made that scene a million times cooler than it already was! And as someone else mentioned, his character Kelleran Beq is being brought into canon from Jedi Temple Challenge on the Star Wars Kids YT channel, where he was the host of essentially a game show. He was only in for like 2-3 minutes but I need more of his character, he stole the show!

kamenriderhime

Oh nice, I'm glad I'm not the only one who realized after the fact! That's so amazing about the character, as soon as I read about it I instantly remembered having seen clips of that show ages ago. How awesome!! I agree, we definitely need more!!!

Cody

I love how we got the flashback from Grogu watching The Armorer make something for him, like how we got Din’s backstory in season one. I’m so excited for the next forge scene now! I’m betting the only reason we didn’t get one for Bo is cause it was the end of the episode or cause it was just replacing a piece of her armor, not making a major addition.

kamenriderhime

So true, love the connection there. Yeah good point about Bo's forge scene!!! The next one will be great for sure though!
