Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 2, episode 1 of The Bad Batch!  Wow, Omega is learning so much!  And they're definitely putting forth lots of interesting questions for this season, too.  Last time we were in survival mode - this time we get to step back and think a bit about our place in this whole new infrastructure.  And to top it all off, we get a mission at Count Dooku's palace, whoa!!!  What a way to kick things off!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

It’s always a fun surprise for me when Wanda Sykes pops up in something.

Well, it definitely was a beach episode… but not a PEACEFUL beach episode. 😅 Omega’s new look is pretty cool, tbh, it kind of gives me a bit of a Han Solo vibe - but I’m sure you’d agree that’s not a bad thing. I’m starting to think of something can go wrong in Star Wars, it usually does…? Because you know, now that I think about it - has ANYTHING in this franchise ever gone according to plan? That would be the real shock. Phee, is a “trustworthy pirate,” according to Cid. A pirate, you say? Hmmm… anyway, she’s voiced by Wanda Sykes who is a very well known actress and has a distinct voice. Look her up and I’m sure you’ll immediately recognize something she’s in. Cid is actually quite forward thinking regarding the Empire, something a lot of people aren’t doing. Eventually the Imperials will go everywhere and they need a pension plan. Echo isn’t wrong about Omega being the reason they’re in the position they are, but I don’t think he said it like he was blaming her. Also, clones are bred to fight, so perhaps part of why they feel the need to help is instinct? If I had a dollar for every time a Stormtrooper said “it’s nothing” when they heard a strange noise and it turned out to be something… you know. Dooku exploited the riches from so many worlds for his own gain, and then Palpatine decided to make bank on him, is what I took from the explanation. I’ll backstab you and take all your goods to fund my Empire. No honor among Sith, I guess? I think they ended up having to leave the war chest during the escape in the container. Poor Wrecker, he’s dealing with heights again. Also what’s with these troopers actually being intelligent and jettisoning the escape pods? Either way, how many series is it now this month where we’re dealing with somebody falling? I’m beginning to think this might all be your fault… 👀😅

Always easy to recognize Wanda Sykes voice. She’s hilarious 😆 I was a bit taken a back by Echo til he continued on with his thoughts. I actually loved that dialogue. He doesn’t blame Omega by any means. He knows they could be out there helping more who were in her position. And I thought that was really sweet in a rough exterior dad and warrior aspect

kamenriderhime

I know!!! I knew the voice right away haha and even though I wouldn't know her by the name, I know just who it is lol.

kamenriderhime

Yes!!! It's an unmistakable voice haha, she's great! Yeah I know, that first part was a little harsh but the rest helped put it in context. I know, it's like his particular brand of dad!

kamenriderhime

Hahahaha yeah definitely not the beach episode I was thinking :P That's the thing, if it could go wrong, it probably will - this is the way :P Well, we've known some other pirates who haven't been all bad (I think you know who I mean!!!) so it's possible. Yes, I knew her voice right away! That's true, Cid has put a lot of this together ahead of time actually. So true about the fact that clones are bred for fighting, so it seems natural to want to fight/protect. That's the thing, Echo's context was a bit different than the way it could be interpreted from just that comment. Lol Stormtroopers are like immune to noises apparently! That sucks about Dooku, not sure if we knew that from other series or not, but this really highlights it. I know, it's always heights with Wrecker!! I guess maybe since we're still dealing with clones, they're slightly more capable than the troopers we come to know later lol. Ahhhhh again with the falling lol!!!!! Obviously I'm summoning all this misery to myself somehow :P

One of the things that I have always been a bit unclear of during the Clone Wars was whether The Republic knew where Count Dooku lived (on Serenno). They obviously wanted to capture him so why not raid his own world to do so? But it is good to see Dooku's palace again - and at least around the palace its a beautiful place. Its fascinating to see how far Dooku had changed from Tales of the Jedi: Palpatine was able to recruit/ groom Dooku because Dooku was an idealist and (not without reason) saw the Republic as containing corruption. Yet here we see the Empire (with the help of Clones still in service) taking away ill gotten loot and riches that Dooku managed to acquire during his time as the Separatist leader; as Obi Wan once said (actually to Maul) in one of his famous trolling moments, "Oh how the mighty Sith have fallen" :-) A great cliffhanger ending too, and as ever love the end music. Filoni et al always seem to come up with the goods, so to speak, with the music, whether that's The Mandalorian, Rebels, Bad Batch, ...

kamenriderhime

Oh that's true, I'd never really thought about it, hmm. Yes it was really cool to see again! It really is interesting to observe Dooku's whole journey now that we have Tales of the Jedi. Obi-Wan's words ring true!!! (As they often do lol) Yeah it was a great cliffhanger! They don't disappoint!!! And the music is really top notch as well, couldn't agree more!!

Hi Mel, back again to catch up on your Star Wars reactions!! :D Ok to start with, there is an obvious time jump here, as Omega looks slightly older and the crew have changed their colour schemes and played around with their armour, to move away from their republic roots. As a guess, I'd say near a year has passed since they got off Kamino as it was being destroyed. Omega has certainly been training judging by how much of a boss she is dealing with those crabs, and she's studying other ship types too, which can only help on missions, as we see with her plan of using the crate to escape later. Speaking of missions, though Hunter is their leader and technically outranks them as he was a Sergeant, the crew has become more democratised and that he can't order them around since they are no longer soldiers of the Republic; hence he reluctantly goes along with them when they want to do the Dooku heist. I like Echo's conversation with Hunter though. Hunter wants them all to be safe and as far away from anything imperial as they can; but we saw all throughout Clone Wars, that Echo is a lot like Rex, a loyal soldier to the cause of freedom. Omega feels guilty as she overhears their conversation, but Echo doesn't regret what they done; just that they could do more to help others out there. I wouldn't feel sorry for Dooku really. In Tales of The Jedi we saw how much against republic corruption he was; yet when he became a Sith, he was happy to pillage many worlds to increase his own colossal wealth throughout the Clone War. He became the thing he swore to destroy... Very cool seeing inside Dooku's headquarters again though, we came to it so much throughout TCW, and you are still expecting him to turn up any minute. Wrecker is right, it is creepy. Captain Wilco, the clone Captain leading the hunt against them, is clearly a very capable soldier and has our crew on the back foot all mission, being chased by fellow clones. And the Empire want to get rid of them and use stormtroopers...

kamenriderhime

Yay! I saw the email from Patreon that you'd signed back up, I was really happy! Right, it looks like we did a slight time jump. A year sounds about right! Omega has leveled up for sure. And good point about Hunter, I was just thinking about that - even though they make a lot of their decisions together as a team. So true about Echo, his ideals align closely with Rex. It's too bad the line she overheard was slightly out of context! I know, it's sad to see that Dooku ended up doing all the things he hated about what was going on in the Jedi/Republic. It as awesome to see the castle! It's very creepy and it's so true that I half expected him to haunt the place lol. The Empire doesn't realize what they have with the clones - Wilco is really on top of his game. But then again, if they'd kept the clones, it might have made it harder for the Rebels to bring down the Empire!

Saltire

Yes glad to be back! I suppose thats the story with Dooku though, and to an extent Anakin; they went all in with Palpatine thinking that they would change the galaxy for the better by bringing in order to a corrupt Republic, but only ended up corrupting themselves and were then happy to see out Palpatine's evil plans. We delve a lot more into the clones under the Empire this season, so looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it all as the series progresses; but yes fortuitously for the good guys, the Empire downgraded on the quality of soldiers at their command which gave the rebels a fighting chance. Coincidentally I was watching your reactions to season 2 of Rebels again last night and started off when the met up with Rex, Gregor and Wolffe; and was thinking of all this when Gregor shot down that TIE like it was nothing; and that was years after all this.

kamenriderhime

Yay! I'm glad you are too! That's the thing, they were both seduced and then corrupted, all in line with Palpatine's plan, but sad that they couldn't see past their own wants/needs. I can't wait to see that! So true, it actually worked out for the Rebels that they slashed quality when they "cut costs" on the troopers. Oh thanks for rewatching my reactions!!! That's a good point about Gregor, interesting!!
