Hey everyone!!  Here it is - my reaction to the two songs from season 12, and the song from season 13!!!  I am REALLY enjoying the band Trocadero!!  They have such a great sound and can somehow balance wistful and aggressive sounds at the same time.  The cover of Contact, or Contact Redux, was really great and had gorgeous vocals....not to mention I think those lyrics hit harder now :O  Also kudos to whoever did the little slideshows on the videos that had them!  These songs were really fun and I can't wait to move onto Season 14 now!!!!  Enjoy! ~ MH

Ok so in short, Funny Farm is just kickers song that they chose to put in during S12 E10 (AKA The time Felix betrayed everybody) Contact and Contact Redux are about Locus and depending on how you view it Church or Felix. And you completely missed this one, Half Life, is about Carolina and how she is living a half life since York died in Out of Mind. Think back to the lighter story in Season 10. The song is about Carolina sitting at bar, getting into a drunken stupor realizing that York is not coming. It is actually a pretty tragic song.

Oh I knew they played Funny Farm during a big scene! I think I relate Contact/Redux more to Church but I can totally see how it fits for Locus. Now Half Life, I would have never guessed being about Carolina and York. :P I miss a lot of stuff in reactions, but I'm not even able to put together point A to point B on this one, I guess I'll have to listen to it again now that I know! Oh well :P

I don’t have a ton of thoughts on the music itself, but Trocadero has been doing the RvB music since the very beginning. Even back to the original guitar string theme you kept strumming every episode. Also, I believe Jeff was a member initially before he started doing independent work. “I’m drunk inside a war” - now is that lyric referring to our reds and blues or to everyone trying to make sense of their actions? I think the Contact lyric “one of us will be forgotten, the other will be wrong” is referring to Allison/Tex and Director/Church, because if you remember, the way to free Tex was for Church to forget her. The Director was a lot of things, but his approach was definitely not a healthy one. So, I brought this up when I posted your batches - but S14 will be a departure. There will not be much, if any, mention of the events that happen in S13, as this season is an anthology. Different short stories involving different characters , written by all sorts of different people, some stories will be one episode, some will be multiple, but we will be bouncing around the timeline a lot. What happened in the main storyline at the end of S13 won’t really be addressed until Season 15 begins. So don’t expect to get a whole lot of answers to those particular questions - but expect to get questions answered you never thought about this season. :)

Nice songs I can’t wait for next week 🥲

Oh I do remember reading that come to think of it, but I didn't know Jeff was part of the band! Good point about the "drunk inside a war" line, I kind of thought it had to do with all angles of what was going on with the war, not just the reds and blues. Ohhh the line from Contact does make sense in the context of Tex/Church. It made me sad because of Church having to basically delete himself this season :( Thanks for the info about season 14! It'll be kind of fun to have short stories, more or less. Almost kind of like Visions but for RvB lol. But I will be dying to know what happens once they pick back up with s15!!!! I'm glad I'll get some other questions answered though haha.

2023-07-18 06:20:50 I love these songs always happy to see your reactions to songs especially because I find them fun. Now talking about Funny Farm surprisingly I didn’t know that this was just a song that worked for the scene where Felix reveals everything about himself but I actually think I can see a connection to stuff in season 12/13. The title could be seen as a reference to mental illness and I think there are clear themes of mental illness going on with Felix & Locus I think the song fits their characters as well as being a good action/betrayal song. I also love how the vocals are calm while the lyrics are very action oriented it’s interesting and cool. The instrumentals are a banger with those guitars. I agree that having the same beat throughout the song without change while being able to ramp up the song as well is really impressive/cool. I love Half-Life but it’s a sad song. I think the more laid back but melancholic instrumental works well with the lyrics and is great. I had forgotten the details of the song but once I heard the song again it was relatively easy to remember/realize the song is about Carolina’s feelings of loss about York. Which is depressing but more bittersweet because of how she has been able to move forward with her life and find a good way to live by helping others. Also I think there are vague connections you could make with the lyrics being about Church in small ways considering what happens to him at least IMO. I love the original version of Contact and this 1 but I think this version being slower with the addition of the female singer Meredith Hagan who I believe also plays the more prominent piano is the better version at least for me. I think it aims and succeeds at evoking a sad and somber tone which was warranted after the ending of season 13. I definitely think this song is about Epsilon Church & Locus because of the lyrics, general vIbe of the song and stuff that happened in this trilogy. Like the green and grey line is a direct reference to the colors of Locus’s armor. Also the lyrics of the longness of semper which is a reference to the motto of the Marines which is Latin for always loyal which makes sense for Locus considering his time in the military and how long he was unfortunately loyal to Felix. Although because it means always loyal it might be about Church when you think about his loyalty towards his friends. About the 1 of us will be forgotten 1 of us will be wrong line is about Felix & Locus in my opinion because Felix will be forgotten and Locus realized he was wrong. The lines about a riders song feels like it’s about an army making a final stand or something which connects to the people of the planet because of the place armies/Army were at especially before they knew the truth. Also might be about the final stand of the Reds & Blues made at the end of the season we didn’t get to see. Finally the lyrics about contact and transmitting messages is the most obvious thing being about the guys 1st trying to send a message to get help for themselves which turns into the entire planet trying to get a message out for help & expose Malcolm Hargrove. Although a deeper meaning might be about Church not ever knowing if the messages he recorded would get to his friends after his death. I knew I would have the most to say about this song it’s just incredible. I love to hear about your love for this trilogy glad the songs enhanced the experience. Awesome reactions, thoughts & keep up the great work. :-) <3

I'm so happy you enjoyed my reactions!!! Oh that's a really good observation about the themes of mental illness and how they relate to Felix and Locus. Yeah they killed it with that beat! Half Life is sad for sure, I didn't realize at first it was supposed to be about Carolina and York but I can totally see it now. Oh yeah I could see the Church connections there. I agree, this version of Contact really hits different! Good note on the line about green and grey, it's probably a reference to Locus. Ohhhh that's interesting about the reference to the Marines and its connection to Locus! I can definitely see how that relates to Felix and Locus. That's really insightful actually. Ooooh yeah I can see how the line about getting a message out could be taken 2 ways. It really is an incredible song! I'm so glad you enjoyed hearing my thoughts about the trilogy!!! The songs really add to it for sure! Thanks for always being so awesome and supportive!!!! ^_^
