Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 2, episode 5 of The Bad Batch!  I love this one, it was such a fun action adventure!!!  It definitely was giving some old school adventure genre vibes!  Phee Genoa (looked up the name after lol) is really cool and it was fun getting to know her better.  Plus, getting to see Omega giddy and just being a kid was sooooo sweet!!  And how can I not love a droid called Mel!!!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

This one is clearly heavily influenced by Indiana Jones as you note Mel, even down to Kevin Kiner's music imitating John William's scores in those films. Its interesting to note when Phee brings up 'the ancients' and Echo mentions the Jedi, to which Phee replies, 'no, older'. In Legends, the formation of the Jedi Order 25,000 years back brought in an long era of prosperity and exploration in the galaxy, and the start of the Old Republic, as worlds came together to trade and seek out opportunities for themselves. So if the wonders inside here are older than all that, then it would be a remarkable discovery for our crew. The star compass used here, is a reference to a similar compass used by Luke in the sequels, and is in fact originally designed by Dave Filoni, despite him not really being involved in those films (a lot would say to the detriment of them too), aside from watching and learning how Rian Johnson directed a live action film with The Last Jedi, which would help educate him when he started live directing in Mandalorian. The machine they activate is clearly some type of ancient weapon. Now I do seem to remember you saying Mel that you started a watchthrough of Jedi : Fallen Order (I don't know if you watched the story through). In that game Cal Kestis is tasked with finding a holocron containing the names of force sensitives which he and Cere Junda could gather to help rebuild the Jedi Order. To do this, he must explore Zeffo tombs on different worlds to gather clues. The Zeffo themselves were an ancient group of force sensitives, and this machine acts and looks similar to one of their Tomb Guardians in the game; so perhaps this episode is hinting that this machine belonged to them. The Zeffo died out a long time ago, but were very advanced. I haven't been able to uncover if this is Zeffo tech or not; but Lucasfilm has been doing a great job of linking together many elements of Star Wars over recent years, and I'd be surprised if this is not a subtle wink at the game. The game is canon so the Zeffo were a real civilisation in the SW Galaxy. This too wouldn't be the first time Bad Batch has referenced something from that game. I remember telling you when they went to Bracca to get rid of their inhibitor chips, that Cal Kestis was in hiding there during their visit, as its where we start the game from. Hunter doesn't like Phee much and thinks she is filling Omega's head up with nonsense; but he knows nothing else but to be a soldier and isn't realising that Omega can have a life outside of that, and that Phee is helping fire up her imagination.

So first before I forget, you might want to check your settings preferences on the Disney+ site and disable the option to auto play the next episode because it’s doing that to you a lot especially when you don’t want it to. That’s how I’d try to fix that skip ahead feature. Omega is a kid, but Wrecker is kind of a big one too, so it’s really not a huge shock that those two get along so well. One just has “slightly” more physical ability. I definitely felt this as a Indiana Jones type episode which fits when you think about it because that’s also a Lucasfilm franchise. Seems like Phee does something similar to Robyn Hill where she can’t call anyone by their actual name but is always referring to them by a nickname of some sorts. Because she can’t be bothered with such trivial details. I noticed Phee was always saying things after the fact like “I was right” or “that’s exactly what I thought” or “I knew it” but it always happened after someone ELSE figured something out. I’m on to her. 😏 So taking out “The Heart of the Mountain” made its body collapse? Also is this how the dinosaurs went extinct? Or was Star Wars making a Jurassic Park reference. Look, if Hondo does show up, you know he isn’t gonna just pop around the corner he’s going to be doing something that will make everyone raise an eyebrow. I get the feeling it’s a matter of when, not if… …by the way why is Darth Maul hiding behind your Penny doll? Just kidding.

They definitely needed your Indiana Jones adventuring pointers 🤦‍♂️

Ohhhh I didn't even know you could do that! Thanks! I love Omega and Wrecker's friendship! Oh interesting, that is similar to Robyn Hill lol. Hahahaha yeah she likes to take credit after the situation is figured out huh :P Lol they were referencing a few classics here if you ask me! I really, REALLY hope we get to see Hondo!! NOOOOOOO not Penny!!!! OMG, that honestly made me turn around to look :O HORRIFYING!!!

I'm glad I caught the reference! I was kind of thinking of the Jedi during Phee's speech! That' interesting! Good call about the compass being similar to Luke's. Oh wow!! That's awesome about Jedi Fallen Order! I started watching a play-through but I'm not sure if I got quite that far! That's so cool though. I love that they're working hard to connect the game! Makes you wonder if it will make its way into one of the animated or live action shows! It's sweet that while Hunter thinks this is all silly, he still allows Omega to explore something other than what he deems important too. I love Omega's imagination!!!!

Yes, I think I've said before that I can see Cal turning up at some point in live action as there are other nods too to some of the things introduced in the game, already in the live stuff. I believe he survived the recent game too Jedi : Survivor, but I haven't played it (will wait until it comes down in price, new games are so expensive these days!); and he'd be about 40 in Mando's timeline as he's a few years younger than Ahsoka going on how old he was during his Order 66. I would like to see him in the series in a few years; but perhaps with Ahsoka, Ezra, Din-Grogu and Luke around during Mando, they might leave it as too many cooks... We'll see. Btw if you haven't seen this advert for the game, check it out, its a hoot! :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sz1swnk0dgA Anyway I'm babbling on as usual, Omega going on these fun episodes and adventures with the crew, is equally important for her development, as the more heavier stuff we'll explore in the series; and she needs to find her own path, one that the rest of the clones never had a say in for themselves.

kamenriderhime

That would be great if he did! I hear you about new games, they are quite pricey! Interesting about the age/timeline. That's a fair point, too many Jedi/cooks in the kitchen haha. Oh, I've seen the ad actually!!! It's popped up on YouTube!!! It's awesome! No worries, you know that I understand how it is to get on a rant about Star Wars haha. That's a great point about Omega having the opportunity to forge her own path too. I can't wait to see more!

Phee is such a fun character, Wanda Sykes was such a fun surprise. This is such a cool episode. The straight up Indiana Jones music in a couple scenes, the mech, the mystery. It’s so cool. I never would’ve put this together but some people think this mech might be connected to the Zeffo culture from Jedi Fallen Order, which were a very ambitious Force culture from the bits of info you gather through the game. Also poor MEL, got freaking vaporized! Sad but also hilariously absurd 🤣

kamenriderhime

Omg I couldn't agree more! OHHH that's awesome about the reference to Jedi Fallen Order!!! Wow! And Mel, noooo!!! Lol!!!!!!!!
