Hey everyone!  Here I am with Red vs. Blue, season 14, eps 1 - 4!  This was so much fun!  Not only is it gonna be fun to see different styles of animation occasionally, but I'm loving getting all these blanks filled in on how everyone came to be part of the Reds and Blues!  Sorry for the mix-up about Caboose, you know my brain gets foggy sometimes lol.  I think my favorite has got to be the Sarges!!!!  Who knew there were so many of them lol!  Still, Sarge is the last Sarge standing :P  I'm having a blast with this, can't wait for more!  Great eps!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

2023-05-16 19:54:12 Most of Room Zero is actually a repurposed pilot for a proposed traditionally animated series they were going to make back in 2007, I believe. Maybe 2008. Until this season aired it had only been a bonus feature on the Season 6 DVD release. Obviously it never got picked up, or you'd have seen it already while watching the series. They added the bit on the end where Church talks to himself, but everything else is at least 15 years old at this point. There are only two sequels that I am deeply sad did not get made, and that's one of them. As far as your questions about animation, the other 3 episodes were made normal machinima style in the remastered version of Halo 1, so that the models would match what they looked like in the era they're portraying, but the quality is closer to modern standards.

You know what I've always been curious about? There was a female Sarge in the line-up in episode 3, you can hear her when they all chorus together. What's her story? How did she come to be a Sarge? Since that's apparently a thing you can select for well enough to get 8 or so candidates. Typically, the RvB ladies are voices of reason and rationality. With the specific and continuous exception of Kaikaina Grif.

I can't wait to tell you my favorite fun fact about a certain trilogy of episodes in this season :)

So first I’ll pull back the curtain and say this is ALL Rooster Teeth. You’re correct in that it seems very Visions-like. But it’s different departments in the same company. Also remember, this was airing right before Volume 4 of RWBY came out with the huge animation upgrade so naturally there was plenty of experimenting with the new programs. The opening line, “Space… it’s really big, dude…” is a tongue in cheek reference to Star Trek’s famous opening lines. Also I’ll remind you that the VA, Burnie Burns, who plays Church, and wrote the first ten seasons, is also the VA for Vick. So he had three characters (two Churches, one Vick) in the first episode. He’s doing a Dee Bradley Baker impersonation, maybe? Room Zero is basically a reference to what Church was doing in S3 when he copied himself to keep trying over and over, but the difference here is it was done in the memory unit. So… where did aliens get involved with this again? You know what, that’s probably not important. 😂 The “trilogy,” is being done with the game mechanics used to make the first seasons. You get to see Grif and Simmons’ first meeting… by the way his line to his CO “is it because the war is over and you’re sending us home?” refers to the same line he told Sarge at the beginning of the series. Also I kinda wonder if Lemons was planning to have all three of them get blown up… but that backfired because Sarge had himself cloned…! I guest the lemons were a little sour after that. When Sarge tells you something, you probably should take the translation literally. Nobody here died a hero. Yes Flowers did use the word semblance before the ads interrupted him. Private Jimmy is the body Church originally inhabited which explains why he died when Caboose tank shot him. Church also mentioned Private Jimmy as being the first to die on Sidewinder, the ice planet, when Tex showed up and beat him to death with his own skull. Which doesn’t seem physically possible. That was mentioned wayyy back in the first season before we knew Tex was a girl. So the batches are split up so there won’t be any cut offs on a particular arc, we are done with this particular story and will be moving on to new ones to e plots next time. Besides… some things you can write your own imagination on. Hopefully next week’s order list isn’t too confusing for you. Until our next visit to the Red vs Blueniverse. 🙃

Wow he out Sarged them all. They literally got Sarged! 🤯😳😮 I loved this. These were all great and I really needed this. I really did. Emotional and maybe even a direction distraction that is needed to fill in those gaps that were never touched upon since the revamping of the story. Also yes I think Caboose and Donut also come later. They were the called in rookies during those times. Interesting on the computer I saw another Grif below (sister). Very nice detail.

kamenriderhime

LOL he truly did!!! They got Sarged hahaha!! Right?! It's so fun and also really interesting! You're right, I had lost track of Caboose and Donut for a bit during this ep, oops! That's so cool about the other Grif aka Sister! That's such a cool detail for sure!

kamenriderhime

No kidding, wow! That's so interesting! Thanks for the info on the style. I really wanna know about the female Sarge too! Good point about the females usually being a bit more grounded, that just makes me even more curious lol!

kamenriderhime

Wow!!! That's awesome that it's all RT! Hahaha I love the parody of Star Trek! Ohhhh I'd forgotten that Church and Vic have the same VA, wow! He must have totally felt like Dee Bradley Baker haha. Right, that was fun to have a story during that time in Season 3. Hahaha I guess it's better not to ask too many questions! That make sense about using the same game mechanics. Also nice callback with Grif's line! Hahaha sour lemons for sure :P The Sarge clones were just too much for me!!! I love that Flowers said semblance lol, sorry for the ads. I vaguely remembered the story of Private Jimmy as they were playing out the scenario! So that's how it happened lol. That's cool the way you set up the batches, no cliffhangers, yay! Looking forward to a new story next time! I'm all set with how to do it, thanks for making sure it was clear lol. Red vs. Blueniverse, I love it!!!

Cody

I’ll have to finally get around to watching season 15 and all that now that you’re closing in lol. Excited for a couple episodes in particular but they’re all fun!

kamenriderhime

Oh yay! I hope you enjoy it! I can't wait to see what's ahead!!! I'm filming the next few eps tomorrow, I'm really looking forward to it haha!!!

2023-07-20 18:18:48 I love season 14 so much. Great to hear more of your thoughts about season 13. The idea of an anthology in this universe with these characters made so much sense to fans when they announced at least from the reception I remember seeing back when it came out. The 1st episode is just fun, funny shenanigans but I like that and I think it works well as the introduction to an anthology for this show. It’s really interesting/cool seeing some of the characters we have come to know in a different animation. I love how the stuff with the iterations was something they added on to an existing animated short to integrate it into Canon as 1 of the many iterations Church experienced in the memory unit. Also Church talking to himself is really fun. It is a perfect choice to have Vic be the narrator of sorts for this anthology he is silly/ridiculous but it somehow works well. I never saw much of it but the whole window thing feels like a reference to the Twilight Zone show. It was nice to get a taste of what the season had in store at the end of the episode. I agree episode 2 is great for how it helps fill in the blanks for Grif & Simmons’s relationship. It’s funny and ridiculous to see how their dynamic started. I think it’s hilarious how Hammer was also a terrible soldier. It was fun to see these 3 bounce off of each other with Simmons fear, Grif’s laziness & Hammer’s patriotism?. In paraphrasing but Grif’s every time someone goes against democracy an eagle dies line is so funny because it’s so absurd. And now we know how Grif & Simmons got involved with project freelancer with Captain Flowers appearing at the end. I love the Sarge focused origin of sorts it’s absolutely unhinged but that’s the best part LOL. I love all the names for the soldiers who are like Sarge they are amazing and work so well. It’s hilarious to see how similar their mindsets are and the thought processes of what they do and why they do not think any of the deaths of the others are bad which is crazy. The interviews especially with Tucker sure are something. Probably should not dwell on the answers too much LOL. With Sarge & characters like him it shouldn’t be a shock that the only way it could end was all but one dying. However the argument for which of the last 2 should be leader and how it ends is the most ridiculous part. Sarge logic is integral to this situation but of course it would happen at the worst time for Lemons. Poor, poor Lemons we hardly knew you. The way Flowers just ignores Lemons as he is attacked is darkly humorous. The little comments from Sarge at the end of the episode are so bad but so good. The humor of this episode is fantastic. I’m happy episode 3 entertained you so much. And then we get the final piece of the origins. The fact that Jimmy from Church’s story so long ago was real is crazy enough but then we get to his disturbing fate of basically being killed so Church as an AI could take over the body. Crazy that that is the origin of that doesn’t seem to be physically possible line. The conversations Flowers has with Vic before the short circuit changed his personality are very interesting with more details of the plans. It’s dark that Flowers was just going to kill Church if he had retained any compromising memories. Nice to know the Tucker/Church dynamic was the same from the very beginning. It’s crazy to think that some coincidences like Flowers heart attack and that short-circuit changed everything by sending other bad soldiers instead of other freelancers when Flowers died. Finally that Vegas quadrant conversation sure was… A thing LMAO. Awesome reactions/thoughts & keep up the great work. :-) <3

This is a great one for sure! Vic is the perfect narrator and I love the Twilight Zone vibes!!! I agree about adding the short to canon, that was clever! I love seeing how Grif and Simmons got started together! The eagle line was amazing lol!! Yes, bringing in Captain Flowers brings it all full circle! OMG the Sarge backstory was incredible and totally unhinged!!! All the Sarges and their names hahaha. The Tucker interview was pretty unsettling at times haha and good idea not to dwell on it! Oh I know, that really had to end with all the other Sarges dying didn't it lol. The ending is totally the most ridiculous part! Poor Lemons lol!!! That Sarge logic will get ya! Omg I know, Flowers' way of dealing with it just makes it even more twistedly funny. Thanks, ep 3 was great! OMG I know, Jimmy being real is crazy, let alone the details of that exchange, yikes! It's super dark but also really adds some detail. Yeah the line of that origin was nuts too! OMG I know, that is dark that Flowers was ready to take him out. Yeah some things never change when it comes to Tucker/Church I guess. Omg I know, the crazy coincidences are just unreal!! Hahaha yes that was a thing apparently lol!!! I'm so happy you enjoyed my reaction, thanks for always being so awesome to me!!! ^_^
