Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to Red vs. Blue season 14, episodes 17 - 20!!!  OMG!!!!!  How on earth did I get so blessed today?!  The musical AND the rap battle in one batch?!!?!  An all-female Red Team that's incredibly efficient and takes some interesting turns with each character??  A reenactment of Resevoir Dogs featuring Grif's bad acting?!!??!?  WOW!!!  I really, really needed the laughs and good time, and dang did they deliver!  The musical is close to the Caboose friendship ep for my fave ep!!  Next week: the finale batch!  What a great batch!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Female Sarge, who was voiced by Ana Hullum is Matt Hullum's wife, and she also voiced Raven Branwen in RWBY. Female Church was voiced by Ashley Burns, the wife of Burnie Burns, and she also voiced Coco Adel from RWBY. So there's a bit of familiararity there lol I love all the songs in these batches. Looking forward to the final episodes of this Season and Season 15 of course.

Rooster Teeth Throwdown, that's a blast from the past. One of the Achievement Hunter guys was trying to get a rap battle series going. Didn't really go much further than this though. The problem he ran into is nobody at the company can sing or rap. With the noted exception, as you've pointed out several times, of Matt Hullum, former CEO and voice of Sarge. You have to feel a little sorry for the woman they had playing Female Donut. Everyone else is playing the character, but female. But for her they said, "You hear this bubbly, overexcited man? Be exactly the opposite." A year ago when you reacted to the song "Donut: The Musical" I mentioned in the comments that we hadn't seen the last The Musical subtitle. Well here we are. Worth the wait? I don't know, I like the mental image of Donut describing the entire story as a series of musical numbers to enraptured Chorus troops a lot more than I enjoy the actual songs.

You said the Lego one made an impression… was that a pun? Anyway, you obviously recognized Lindsay, but Anna Hullum is the voice of female Sarge in the first batch. You know her from RWBY as Raven Branwen. But the caveat is, she is also the actual wife of Matt Hullum, who is Sarge’s VA. Also Ashley Jenkins voices the female Lopez and Church - and she’s the wife of Burnie Burns, who voices both. So what they’re saying here is… this all could’ve been ended a lot sooner if we just got some more girls involved…? …Tucker was… right…? I knew you were gonna pick up on the musical theme right away, I know you too well. I particularly enjoy Sarge trying to pull off Johnny Cash, because that’s exactly the tone he’s going for with the rocket launcher song. Church is being a drama Queen, ironically, and as far as your question, this came out two years after the RWBY dance scene, so there could’ve been some inspiration. Just remember, it’s kick step, kick step, body roll! I’ve only seen Reservoir Dogs once, but I do like Tarantino films. They’re definitely a different breed though. Oh, wait… you want them to act out other stuff… we’ll, we know they’d need Tex for Kill Bill but… what about Star Wars? Or Lord if the Rings? Maybe they could even act out RWBY… 🤭 There’s a lot of Easter eggs in the rap lyrics, but they go by so fast it’s hard to process. There’s a lot of jabs at the Reds never having anything to do with the main plot as well as a jab at Sarge not doing anything productive since the Reconstruction season. The Felix and Locus thing was just to add a little more frosting to an already spicy cake. I am however, a little concerned, because I don’t see Caboose or the gasoline can anywhere at the moment…

These were all cute. The musical intertwining this season in the story was awesome. To me it’s canon we’ve seen crazier lol. The “Quentin Tarantula” one I wish was longer. I’d watch the heck out of that one! xD And that rap battle was hot. Give them all some water cause they were spitting fire 🔥

kamenriderhime

No kidding, that's awesome!!!!!! Who knew there were so many wives / RWBY characters here lol!!! No wonder they sounded familiar! The songs were amazing!!! I'm happy you're looking forward to future eps/batches - me too!!

kamenriderhime

I know right?! I absolutely love it! Hahah yeah still not the weirdest thing we've seen! Tarantula :P OMG same, I wish they'd made a whole batch or movie just out of that haha!!! Seriously, that rap battle was epic!!!! XD

kamenriderhime

OMG really? I'd totally watch a rap battle series!! It would be tough without any singing/rapping abilities though. I suppose we can't leave Sarge to carry the whole operation haha. Omg I know, they really turned the tables with Donut!!! :O That's right, you did say that, I'd almost forgotten!! LOL I think there is something about Donut depicting all of this to the Chorus troops that's almost even better than the musical itself!!!!

kamenriderhime

Hahaha I guess I'm just punning unintentionally now :P That's amazing, I saw another comment mentioning the relationships / other roles of the female VAs, I love it!!! Hahaha I mean Tucker was right, just not in the way he thought! Hahaha you guessed right, I do love a good musical! I can totally see the Johnny Cash vibes! Oh that's interesting, maybe they did get some inspiration from the RWBY dance scene! HAHAHAHAHA omg now I wanna go watch RWBY Chibi!!! XD I've only ever seen Resevoir Dogs once too and it was a while back. They're one of a kind alright! Tex for Kill Bill, whoa!! OMG right?! They could act out anything!!! I'd watch it!!! They could make a whole season just off that :P I'm sure there were tons of Easter eggs in the rap battle! Throwing Felix and Locus in there was just too much :P Uh oh, where is Caboose with that gasoline.....!!!

I always liked season 14 a lot. It's a nice breather. The show had been getting pretty intense compared to the Blood Gulch Chronicles. The two musicals episodes are such fun. And I've always both enjoyed and been cautious of gender bender stories. I was pleased with how they handled that one over all. Also, one of my favorite characters is coming up in the next batch. Definitely looking forward to your reaction. :)

kamenriderhime

It is isn't it!! Yeah I thought they did a pretty good job with it too, and the musical was amazing haha. Whoa, I can't wait to see your fave character!! Thanks for watching along with me :D

2023-08-08 19:22:56 This set of episodes is very entertaining. I think the gender swap concept is always interesting so episode 17 is fun & funny although it can be done badly I’m glad this 1 wasn’t done poorly. There definitely is something disconcerting about female versions of characters we have only know as male for the entire show. I really enjoy that they are for the most part the same but slightly different mostly being more competent. I like that Sarge is still harsh but nicer & Simmons and Grif still have that clashing dynamic. Also Donut is the same but opposite in that to me this version of him has masculine stereotypes are given to her where the version we are used to has feminine stereotypes given to him but of course the innuendos are still there LOL. It’s amazing that Tex in this iteration is is a man. I like that Church says he doesn’t have a problem with gay relationships it’s just he’s not. Also the twist with the next iteration at the end with Church being a woman is hilarious I guess Church learned something about memory this episode LOL. You do recognize another voice actor this version of Sarge is voiced by Anna Hullum who also voices Raven from your favorite show. I love musicals so episode 18 was a treat. I think the songs are great and have well-written lyrics & I love how the songs match the characters they are made for really well. I think it’s great that the singing isn’t perfect although I agree Sarge’s voice actor is most likely a good singer in real-life. My favorite song in this episode is what I call Church’s Lament but I enjoy all of them. That last song and dance number is really funky/groovy I like it. I love the idea that Donut just constantly imagined in the past and imagines in the present songs in his head all the time. I don’t have much to say about episode 19 but I love the ridiculous shenanigans especially the crazy voices. The bad voice acting is perfection LOL. And while I haven’t seen the movie I like that I was able to get the gist of what it was about & not feel spoiled. Also Sister’s absurd humor is still great. Episode 20 is really fun. I love the rap battle it’s clever, well-written and most importantly hilarious. Felix & Locus’s interjection is so exciting and savage I love it. I love all the references to other seasons in the verses. Also I was on the side of Church when I originally watched this & still am. At 1st you thought episode 20 might be another Death Battle well there was one of red team versus blue team not connected to the show but you shouldn’t react to it until you are caught up or after season 17. I’m glad this season was a breather/reset for you. Awesome reactions & review. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

I agree, it's not easy to pull off a really good gender swap but they did it here! I know, it was fun to see what they did with Donut and Tex!!! And yeah Church is "straight but not narrow" lol! Church as a woman was amazing haha!! And omg, that's amazing about Raven's VA being Sarge!!!! Omg the musical, me too!!! Yeah it fits that the singing isn't perfect but I can totally tell there's talent there with Sarge's VA! The funky dance number, yay!!! Church's Lament was great too! Donut's imagination is amazing haha. OMG the bad voice acting killed me, it was so good! Oh the rap battle was great too, the interlude with Felix and Locus, dang. Haha it's hard not to be on Church's side! Oh that's good to know about the other death battle! It was such a nice reset!!! Thank you for being so awesome and encouraging!!! ^_^
