Hey everyone! I'm back with season 2, episode 8 of Legend of Vox Machina!  WHOA!!!!  I LOVED this episode!!!  Not only do we get Pop Pop and poor Grog trying to make his journey towards recovery, but we get a really epic character ep about Vex - her past, how she's dealing with it, her ship with Percy (!!!), etc.!!!  I think they nailed it when it comes to showing how someone deals with an abusive family relationship as an adult - for both Vex and Vax.  Having the tree try to bait her using her fears and insecurities really hit in the feels, but dang, her feelings for Percy are stronger!!!!  Squeeee!!  I love them together!  What a phenomenal ep!  Now we're onto Grog's hometown to meet....the uncle who KILLED him?!!?!  WHAT?!?!?!  Great ep - enjoy!  ~ MH

Hi Hime :) Percy is the definition of a fan who has studied everything in the books, confronted with reality different from what he imagined. He is the worthy representative of comics and manga lovers, who complain about a cinema adaptation that is "different from the books" lol. Poor Grog, we laugh at his expense, but we must admit that this passage in music is quite funny. He suffered, but is on the road to recovery now. Scanlan, who deviates the compliments with jokes and perverse insinuations, above all shows his insecurity. But we can see that Pike sees clearly in his game all the same and that he is trying to change. But habits are tough as they say. Vax and Vex with their half sister are adorable. They may hate their father (especially Vax), but that doesn't mean his new daughter has to pay the price, or even their mother-in-law at the same time. I think it's a very nice demonstration of maturity, to keep this animosity towards him but only him. Which makes Percy defending Vex and Vex defending him in turn even cuter. For Garmelie who transforms, it is not supposed to evoke someone since it is her first appearance. But logically, it could be important for later. It is true that they had tried to demonstrate some chemistry between members in season 1 already, but there they clearly support the ships between Kiki/Vax, Percy/Vex and Scanlan/Pike. Grog had craven edge but they broke up in episode 7 lol.

Hmm… I think perhaps your shipping may be getting a little TOO out of control… we are not quite to “bug spray” levels yet, but we are trending in that direction…! But first… Grog’s having a weird day. When Scanlan’s having to do what basically amounts to a colonoscopy, you know you’ve reached a new level of weird. There seems to be a couple tropes here that you could say are somewhat familiar, what with the deadbeat dad and also with the whole “abuser who can’t take no for an answer.” It’s okay, I’m pretty sure you already knew where I was going with the references. You’re right about the juxtaposition between Pike’s granddad and the Twins’ dad, it’s kind of a polar opposite thing going on. Maybe they’ve been watching Kamen Rider lately. Now, regarding Percy and Vex, I’m NOT going to say you’re wrong for shipping them - BUT - I think you’re also putting the cart somewhat before the horse here - keep in mind that Percy probably feels the most responsible for Vex’s “death,” so at least part of his attention towards her is probably being motivated by his own guilt over that sequence of events. As for what Vex was saying about where her heart is, she could’ve just as easily been talking about her whole team as any one specific individual. Maybe their dynamic will indeed develop into something more, but right now this instant, given everything that’s happened to both of them, they’re both pretty damaged and kind of need to get each of their own personal issues sorted out. They’re a lot further behind in actual chemistry than the characters half their size are currently. Vax has been a little quiet for a couple episodes, we probably should explore that more soon… but Keyleth has I guess what you’d call a fiery temper. (Is anyone else starting to get serious LOTR vibes from all the elements at play this season?) As for Grog, he just got out of an abusive relationship if you recall. In fact it was a really bloody split. It was a bad BREAK up. 😉 I dunno who that guy was, but apparently he wanted to be entertained. At least he wasn’t a frog. And as for Grog saying his uncle killed him - I mean, we are dealing with people who’ve come back from the dead, right? Even if it was only a few minutes. Your turn to roll dice now! Just remember if it’s below a 2, a cute character (or animal) is in mortal peril, so no pressure! 😁

Was that an air ashari? That’s my guess. Anyways this may be my favorite episode yet. It did have a bit of everything in it. I felt for Vex in this one. No matter how much of a jerk, you can’t help but want that approval and sometimes telling them what you really think about them hurts you even worse later. But I’m glad she didn’t give in. And I love that we got Pikes dad as well he was a good contrast to Vax and Vex’s. I can see where Pike gets her lovable charm. And it’s sweet he also welcomed and worried for Grog so naturally. That was awesome seeing how far the two buddies have known each other. This was a good one.

Oh yeah that makes sense, they looked like it! I know, it was such a good one! Poor Vex!!! That's the thing, it's a weird mix when you're dealing with someone like that....sometimes lashing out doesn't feel as good as you'd think. Yes, Pop Pop!!! It was a great contrast wasn't it? It makes total sense as to why Pike is how she is! Yeah I love that they're longtime friends!!! Such a great ep!!!

Hi Spadeas! :) Lol he really is! That last line was so "the book was better" or "the manga was better", I loved it hehe! Poor Grog indeed, but the lyrics were just so good, it's hard not to enjoy it! Yeah, Pike sees through the whole charade with Scanlan! I LOVE Vax and Vex with their little sister!!! Exactly, I love that they can separate all of that from the abuse from their dad so easily. It goes to show they have very caring and understanding hearts. I know, Percy defending them made me squeee!!! Lol true, Grog just went through a break up huh!!!! But yeah, the pairings are pretty evident!!

I guess you picked up that Percy’s declaration of Nobility to be conferred on Vex was an indirect marriage proposal. They’re very much in love by this part of the story.

So fun fact: in the campaign the scene where they meet the twins’ dad was actually played in front of an audience at a convention, so when Percy gave Vex her title the crowd was screaming! XD and he apparently came up with that on the spot! He was running through ideas in his head literally as they were talking to their dad.
