Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to Red vs. Blue season 16, episodes 7 - 9!!!  OMG!!!  We finally get to catch up with Wash and Carolina....and you guys, the Wash stuff is KILLING me!!!!
I hate seeing him this way...I can only hope he's gonna recover really soon!  Meanwhile everyone is off having their own adventures, including Grif getting to know Huggins a bit better back in the past!  I'm liking Huggins a lot!  But who is this mysterious Him???  I thought the time travel theories were pretty interesting, and YAY, here's my Caboose again!!!!!!  So happy!!!  Great eps!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Season 16 Episode 8 is legitimately the only GOOD episode of this season. It is so beautifully tragic.

We’re gonna start first with Rrrraaarrrgghhh - the cyclops ogres are based on and motion captured by Gus Sorola (Simmons’ VA - you’ve seen him on screen a few times during some of those fourth wall breaking episodes.) Apparently, he left some of his actual skin props in disturbing food-related places around the writer’s room on several occasions… as if the whole eye/ball joke wasn’t bad enough already…! Huggins is just asking for the Tinker Bell reference, but between them and Grif you’ve got another trope going on in the “reluctant buddies” road trip. Also when Grif yells “I don’t believe in Destiny,” I can’t believe you didn’t pick up on the subtle jab they were doing regarding another Rooster Teeth show… 😬 It makes sense that Wash would have done lingering effects from something that serious… but it’s still kind of an uncomfortable topic to broach, because it’s not someone anyone really likes to think about. I will point out it’s been mentioned on multiple occasions that Wash was considered the “worst” of the original Freelancers, so it’s kind of touching to hear Carolina call him one of the best. Also despite the circumstances surrounding his current condition, Carolina is doing that thing where she blames herself for all of it, saying he deserved a better partner. She’s got her own injuries to deal with, too, but hers are more of the psychological kind. Everyone’s panicking about the idea of Caboose with a Time Machine but you gotta admit, I think Sarge might be the one that’s the most dangerous - he’s deliberately trying to disrupt things for his own benefit. Also, I don’t ever remember him in the Troy movie, they must’ve taken some historical liberties? Caboose’s damage is the kind where he does it without meaning to. Like tripping over a lens flare. And Huggins is scared of black holes? Hmm, that makes sense. So if I go back in time and stop you from filming today’s reaction then do we have free will? All this timey-wimey stuff is throwing me for a… loop…! Maybe I should just stick to discussing the cat. Although, why am I picturing a cat that has the face of Tom Hiddleston? I think that name could be ruined… Do we even want to know where Caboose has been…? 👀

That cyclops was terrifying to me 😅 Woah go Tucker! Taken him down like a champ! The stuff with Wash is killing me too. I love a good cat story. Telling it twice I don’t mind, but here it hurt for obvious reasons. It just drove the knife through me. Man there really getting me this season. I just don’t know what to expect. And goodness we haven’t even seen what Caboose has been up to but him and Lopez have made it in the textbooks. 🤯

It was pretty scary!! He was such a boss right! Omg the Wash stuff is soooo sad! I hear you, I love a good cat story too but the context of this one just breaks my heart! They're really hitting us hard this time right? I'm not sure either, who knows what they have in mind. Omg so much craziness and Caboose hasn't even been around! He's for sure making his mark though haha!

Raarrrrggghhh made a big impression during his screen time lol! No kidding about the motion capture! Uggghhhhh the props in the food rooms, ick!!!! It definitely enhances the grossness of the overall situation lol. I love the reluctant buddies vibe between Huggins and Grif! Ohhhhh good call about the nod to that other show!!! It went over my head! I know, that's a really touchy subject they're covering with Wash, although it is somewhat realistic. I know, hearing her call him the best was jarring at first, but so touching! Right, I wish Carolina wouldn't blame herself. She for sure has some scars here as well, just not on the outside. Okay so I think you're onto something here, Sarge is waaayy more intentional with that time machine, which is scaring me! Exactly, like Caboose's will all be unintentional, whereas Sarge is here on a mission lol. Oh yeah, I guess a light being wouldn't care for a black hole. Hahah don't get me going on wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff, I'll get a headache! LOL!!!!! I hope the cat resembles Loki too, that would be great! What if Caboose has been accidentally healing time rifts and actually making a positive impact on the timeline by total accident or something?? That would be quite the twist....!!!

The story with Wash is the main reason I don't write the whole Shisno Paradox off as a bad dream. I figured if I like Washington as a character, and that's how I feel about it, how crazy was it going to be for you? I have a lot of other thoughts that are all spoilers, but in my opinion this is the only story that matters for these two seasons.

kamenriderhime

Yeah it definitely grounds this story a bit more to what came previously. OMG you knew it was gonna hit hard!!! I can't wait to hear your thoughts once we get there!!

Cody

The split second that Wash repeated the cat story my heart sunk. :(

kamenriderhime

OMG I know :(((((((( Such an effective use of dialogue there, the repeat just drives it home so much!!!

I think this is a great set of episodes. I love all the antics as Tucker and Kai try to fight/survive the Cyclops. I don’t like what the Cyclops looks like because it’s uncanny Valley for me even though I know it’s meant to look ugly. I adore Huggins for many reasons but in this episode I love her voice because it’s cute & I really enjoy the humor around her like the whole murder joke. Also poor Grif is not having a good day. I like that Tucker comes up with a clever plan to attack the Cyclops too bad it didn’t work. My favorite part of the fight is Tucker’s scream when he realizes the Cyclops can understand English it’s hilarious. This is such a chaotic fight but that’s why I enjoy it. I don’t know who came up with Kai’s battle cry her voice actor or the writers but it’s amazing. Also the ball joke is certainly something I never wanted to know. I like Atlus’s commentary. Him doing the devil horns gesture is surreal. I love episode 8. Wash’s story about his cat is cute/sweet and heartwarming at least at 1st. I love the banter between him & Carolina as they compete on the training course. It’s rough to realize that Wash is having memory/mental problems. It makes sense because of his injury as Dr. Grey says but it’s still a sad realization. It’s a very complicated thing to talk about when it comes to Carolina not being honest with Wash about his condition. Dr. Grey’s advice to tell him is probably the way to go but you can’t really control your emotions/reactions when someone you love/care about is in that state. I don't blame her because this is obviously hard on her as well and sadly it’s draining for her & I don’t think being unsure is helping matters. I like Huggins’s exposition because it sounds like classic Greek/Roman mythology which I love. Some people were wondering if Doc made up the story about his brother because of the O’Malley factor but I thought the tone was meant to taken at face value when episode 6 came out. And we finally hear the name of the mysterious him Chrovos which is a cool name. And it sounds like this being found Doc in an emotionally vulnerable state to manipulate him. I love how excitable/happy Huggins is while also being sassy. The interactions between her and Grif are really fun especially because their personalities kind of clash which makes it interesting. And at least there is a way out of this time period now even if Grif is very annoyed. It’s hilarious to hear the normally calm/collected Dylan Andrews losing her mind trying to get a hold of Carolina LOL. It’s not surprising considering she has found evidence about the Reds & Blues time traveling. Carolina’s reaction/exasperation is so real & is kind of like how I react to some things IRL. And now that we know about Wash’s condition him wanting to do something and his story about the cat become really sad knowing that Washington has told this story many times before. It’s like what people have to deal with when it comes to someone they love having dementia or Alzheimer’s & I think the writers did a good job dealing with a concept like this without being insulting or accidentally offensive which can sometimes happen when stories deal with heavier topics. This definitely hurt my heart and made me very emotional when this 1st came out it’s not just you and it shows how it’s very well done. Even though it's sad at least we got the heartfelt moment of how Carolina views Wash as strong. I enjoy seeing more of unhinged Jax has become as a director and it looks like it is just getting worse. I love how quickly he goes from tyrant to normal with his tone of voice it’s hilarious in a terrifying way LOL. People becoming friends on road trips is a classic for a reason because I love Huggins & Grif becoming friendlier with each other as they travel especially because of the interesting conversations they have. Also his laugh when asked if he can swim is 1 of my favorite things. I love how they try to explain/understand time travel with Jax’s knowledge of fictional time travel. I like the way this is meta more than some of the ways the show was being in season 15. Also don’t worry Wash all of our brains are melting LMAO. And then we go into the philosophical conversation about free will which can cause plenty of existential dread if you think about it too long. At least they might have proven that free will exists I guess? I’m glad you are already really liking Huggins because I love her character she is adorable and funny. Awesome reaction, thoughts & keep up the great work. :-) <3

kamenriderhime

Yes, these were really fun episodes! Huggins was a lot of fun here! Wash's cat story was very cute. I agree that there's definitely more of a metaness to this season! Glad you enjoyed the reaction!
