Hey everyone!  I'm back with Ahsoka season 1, episode 2!  I'm so glad Sabine is okay!  I mean, it was almost assured that she would be, but still!  The tension between her and Ahsoka is interesting to watch and I'm really looking forward to seeing them work through it!  It's interesting how they can both be a little too stubborn to realize that, well, they're both equally stubborn lol.  Hera being the mom of the group again is just so delightful!  Getting to see Hera doing some piloting was a treat as well, and omg CHOPPER!!!!  We're all set up for a big adventure, and I can't wait to tag along and see what's gonna happen next!!!  Great ep!!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

I love the way they incorporated the ending of Rebels into this episode. And of course it's always fun seeing chopper being a nut. I can only imagine how much fun Filoni has in the booth.

I love that loth-cat, it just looks so like a puppet, its awesome. I wonder if its the white loth-cat that helped guide Ezra? Speaking of Ezra, Kevin Kiner just HAD to play Ezra's Theme when Ahsoka replayed the message to get me watering up again, damnit! :D He does the same thing doing Hera's Theme playing when she is speaking to Sabine - its too much! I see it got to you too Mel that moment! :D I like the scene with Huyang and Sabine, speaking about her training. I think what Huyang is saying is that it doesn't matter if she is strong in the force or not, she can discipline herself to rediscover her purpose with or without Ahsoka's guidance, but obviously having Ahsoka be her master would help her. On her force sensitivity, I think she may be like Chirrut Imwe the monk from Rogue One; which he wasn't that force sensitive, but because he studied the ways of the force, he was able to almost do some of the things a Jedi can do. Sabine can become that at least. It would be something new to see someone who isn't force sensitive be trained as a Jedi Knight. Even though Sabine wouldn't have the abilities that someone strong in the force has, that matters less as what being a Jedi represents to the galaxy at large; as a force for good, justice and helping people. There is an interesting mirror to all this with Grogu, someone who was trained at the Temple to be a Jedi Knight, but has since now moved on and wants to be a Mandalorian under Din's guidance, whereas Sabine is a Mandalorian who may become a Jedi Knight. Oh Chopper how we love you so! "Just shoot it down" - Hera : "we can't drop a hyperdrive over a city!" - Chopper "is that bad?" :D They did him brilliantly. Sometimes the jump from animation to live without CGI makes the droids look a bit static, but they got all of Chopper's mannerisms and cheek spot on from the off - we are going to see more Chopper madness before this is done! I don't know if that fella is an Inquisitor or not, he had the sabre, but I'm unsure if he was one and is now something else now that the Empire is 'gone'. I heard Sam Witwer who played Maul in the animations (and Solo) is credited - I wonder if it was him? Would be great to bring another actor in from the animations here though. Sabine doing a Kanan and cutting her hair off. He did that to shed Kanan Jarrus and become Caleb Dume the Jedi Knight. Is this Sabine dropping her past to become a Jedi too? :) Yeah Baylan showing that he isn't a Sith here for me; he still has a fondness for the old order which is why he says killing Ahsoka would be a shame as she still represents that old way, even if he himself has become something else. Good stuff, and I like the portal thing they are building as I think I know where this is going outside of bringing Thrawn back...

Squeezing in some time here, somehow… Let’s get the technical stuff out of the way first. According to my information, the series is running for eight episodes total. Also, subsequent releases will drop on Tuesdays from here on out. I don’t know if that will affect your recording schedule, but it should at least let you know when to be on spoiler watch alert until you film. MH: I need a Loth-cat plushie! AHSOKA BEAR: Am I a joke to you? Regarding the episode itself… First, Morgan said the temple was designed by beings from another galaxy, so that must mean the other one… so that effectively eliminates the Nightsisters. By the way, it’s going to be literally impossible to discuss this show without bringing up Rebels. Clone Wars was more if a loose set of stories but this is a direct tie in, so you’re just going to have to accept that people watching this have either seen it or know what happened. Or don’t care about the spoiler tags. :) Ahsoka and Sabine are both being total tsunderes - can’t you tell that’s why they clash so much? Although now that I think about it - did Hera and Huyang kind of conspire with each other to get those two in cahoots again? Speaking of cahoots, is this gonna be an Ahsoka and Sabine road trip? That might be fun… The guards shouted “for the empire” as they attacked. Also the New Republic employing that many ex Imperials seems short sighted. Especially given what was revealed. And let’s not forget the REAL star of the show, Chopper’s back and stealing every scene he’s in. Shenanigans! Huyang, you might wanna get away… Also for reference purposes it seems the subtitles have Baylan’s “apprentice” named as Shin. That’s all I have there. Too early to tell. It’s important to keep in mind, it’s been years since the end of Rebels. It finished before Episode 4 and this is after 6. So a lot has happened off screen. Including Ahsoka and Sabine’s estrangement from each other, it didn’t happen overnight. I’m also 99% sure this is the first Mandalorian with Jedi training? That sounds a little OP if she can pull it off! And if Ezra is alive, we’ll… you know who ELSE is going to show up. Hopefully Sabine has finished her basic training by then!

I love that they have turned the Rebels finale ending into live action here: it’s not quite identical (most obviously it’s not Ahsoka the White) but it’s obviously meant to be the same scene. I did think they would include this somewhere, but I’m so glad they did. Who would have thought that Huyang was there as well, though 😎 I like Baylan in this: a complex character. I love the scene with Sabine cutting off her hair: this science is clearly meant to remind us of the incredibly moving episode where Kanan does the same, to fully embrace his fate as the Jedi Caleb Dume rather than as Kanan Jarrus. One thing I forgot to mention in my comments on episode 1 was the pacing: slower than in animated Rebels, which I think has worked really well these two episodes. On going to find Thrawn in another galaxy, I think I am right in saying that, at least in canon, Star Wars has always been set in the same one galaxy. So, if we end up going to another galaxy in this series this is a a first for Star Wars??

Manny

We got the dynamic duo of Hera and Chopper back again! He was so marvelous and sassy as ever. I was wondering if the first episode was the hiatus look for Sabine or if that was going to be the new live action look. I’m happy we got that ever changing style. It’s awesome to see these small remnants of the rebels coming back again. :,)

kamenriderhime

I know!! Chopper is the best haha!!! Oh wow, it must be a blast getting to cut loose as our little maniac droid lol.

kamenriderhime

YESSSSS!!!!!!!! He was amazing haha, he didn't miss a beat! I love that Sabine's hair is ever changing just like usual too. Omg, the love and joy in my heart for Rebels, they're just making it bubble up so much with all that they're doing on this show!!!

Saltire

Yeah Huyang will need to stay well clear of Chopper if he wants to keep his remaining 75% original parts! OMG will we see AP-5 I wonder? Tarre Viszla, the maker of the Darksabre was another Mandalorian Jedi, but this would be the first outside of that I believe if Sabine eventually ascends to Knighthood.

kamenriderhime

I know!!! I loved that. Yeah it was a nice addition to have Huyang there as well!!! Yes, I think Baylan is going to be pretty layered. OMG, that is so true about the hair cutting scene!!! It's a beautiful homage isn't it! True, I think the slow pacing adds to the ambience a lot. That's what I was thinking - it's always all been in the same galaxy, so are we breaking new ground here, literally?? Guess we'll find out!

Can I say that I love the music in this show? As you know, Kevin Kiner is back. And a couple times in these 2 episodes we hear a bunch of recurring themes; Ahsoka's and Sabine's themes in the credits and a couple times in the episodes like in episode 1 when Sabine asks where Ahsoka's been and when she watched Ezra's hologram and again when she accepted the Lightsaber. Plus Hera's and Ezra's themes as others have pointed out. I hope if we ever see Rex, that we hear the Clone Theme. Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati, 2 of the main villains of the series, are likely references to Skoll and Hati from Norse Mythology, 2 Wolves who chase the Sun and Moon until Ragnarok begins. Kinda foreboding if you consider Thrawn and whatever he found to be the sun and moon heralding the end in this case. I liked Ahsoka's duel with the HK Droid and Marrok. There's some good choreagraphy with leg sweeps and dodges. Also I love that we got to see Corellia in the New Republic Era. I'm actually enjoying the pacing for this series. It kinda reminds me of the book, Master and Apprentice by Claudia Gray and how Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon didn't get along at first, similarly to Ahsoka and Sabine. It's gonna be journey with these 2. Can't wait to see how it progresses.

I have sometimes wondered if going to another galaxy was possible in the Star Wars universe, along with other related questions. For example, how long does it take to travel through hyperspace across the Star Wars galaxy? This matters because it’s a fair bit further to travel to another galaxy; for example, the Milky Way galaxy is about 100 000 light years across (a very big distance itself!) but to travel to the nearest similar galaxy (Andromeda) is approximately 25 times further. And to use hyperspace travel between two galaxies you would want to map out the route first, in the sense of being sure that you don’t bump into things along the way: surely no easy feat over such huge distances? Anyway, geeky physics thoughts to one side, it will be interesting to see how travel to this other galaxy is handled in future Ahsoka episodes. And I wonder if The World Between Worlds will be involved in this travel to another galaxy somehow?

kamenriderhime

Oh that's true, I wonder if it is the same Loth Cat! Wasn't it awesome!! Awwww that's so cool that it was Ezra's theme playing, I can definitely see how that hits hard in the feels!! Kevin Kiner is a genius! OMG yes, that moment with Hera and Sabine, it got me for sure!!!! :'D Oh that's a good analysis of where Sabine stands when it comes to Force sensitivity - I can totally see it being like that. And I agree that Huyang was saying that what matters is how she proceeds, not so much her natural ability in the Force. It would be interesting to see someone become a Jedi when they're not very strong with the Force though. And wow!!! That's such a good analogy about Din/Grogu versus the situation here!!! I hadn't even thought of that! Hahahha Chopper was EVERYTHING here!!! They absolutely captured Chopper so perfectly!!! I can't wait to see what kind of craziness he gets up to here! Ooooh that's interesting about the credit for Sam Witwer, I'd heard about that, I really hope it's true! Yes, I love that she cut her hair like Kanan!! Baylan's definitely unique and not exactly Sith maybe. I'm so curious to know where it's all going!!!!! Can't wait for more!!!

kamenriderhime

Those are actually really good thoughts, since we've always been set in this universe I hadn't even considered things like travel times and whatnot! It's incredible to think about though! It would make sense if the World Between Worlds played a part somehow, given the issues with distance and all!!

kamenriderhime

Thanks for taking the time to write! Thanks for the update on the timing/series length! Hahahaha poor Ahsoka Bear, I'm still clutching her as I plan my next plushie purchase :P Gotcha, so we really are dealing with a whole other universe here or something. That's the thing, I'm just not gonna worry about spoilers lol, since this is basically Rebels season 5. OMG they are such tsunderes!!! Lol Huyang and Hera must have totally conspired!! Omg road trip time! Yeah I can see how it wasn't great for the New Republic to employ so many ex Imperials....and yeah, they seem to still be pretty loyal. CHOPPER!!!! So glad to have him back!!! Thanks for the name info on the apprentice! That's the thing, we've covered a lot of time since Rebels, so it makes sense that some stuff went down. Yup, if we get Ezra, we're bound to get someone else too...!! Saltire - LOL we know how Chopper is with other droids!! I think you're right that Sabine would be the first since the maker of the Darksaber, pretty incredible!

kamenriderhime

OMG yes, I love that Kevin Kiner is back, and the music is fantastic!!! Love that they reuse the themes!!! Interesting about the Norse mythology references, wow! I agree, the fight looked awesome. Very cool to see places like Corellia in this era too! Oh nice, I'll have to check that book out! I feel like I may have read it - or tried to read it - way way back in the day! I can see how there would be similarities. And the pacing works really well! Can't wait to see more!

Saltire

Yeah the pacing was slowed down quite a bit compared to an episode of Rebels, which gives the casual fan time to become familiar with the Spectres story and be introduced to them; and it gives the rest of us well versed in Rebels the chance to cry a lot - and it worked! I believe however this week's episode is only 30 mins, so will be a lot faster paced. Tbh Nick I wouldn't worry too much on the logistics of hyperspace, its Star Wars, we have people who could shoot lightning out of their hands and sound in space, its never been all that well versed in fact, unlike say Star Trek which at least tried to be more based in realism, but even there, if you took a short trip from Earth to Vulcan in a starship and came back, the people left on Earth would have aged over 20 years. A warp drive in Star Trek has basis in some science through the Alcubierre drive which creates the 'warp' field which moves space around the ship and perhaps doesn't invalidate relativity, but would need exotic matter that may not exist to power it, and it would need to be negative energy and the amount of energy needed to power it for all intents and purposes may as well be infinite. With hyperspace here in Star Wars and Babylon 5, it could be a different dimension that gets used to get around all this stuff, though even then time still passes; and with the distances involved for intergalactic travel, it would still take a long time due to the distances one would imagine, as you are correct about Andromeda (which I have been trying to see with my eyes at the back of my house, but had no joy yet!) as even though that is on a collision course with the Milky Way at a speed of 110 km/s, at that distance it will still take billions of years to happen.

Saltire

Ah Filoni and his wolves again, might have known he'd put them in somewhere! :D

kamenriderhime

It is nice, it helps the newer audience and gives the older audience a bit of a change of pace compared to the animated style. Just reading about the physics of all this is fascinating btw!!!!

Cody

Huyang cracked me up with that “because you’re a hologram” line XD I’m really curious about this Marrok guy that Ahsoka fought, it’s not often we get an Inquisitor’s name, but then again it’s usually other Inquisitors that call them by their titles. The return of MVP CHOP! I feel like more than any time in Rebels I could really tell what Chop was saying here, in Rebels I only heard him cursing lol. And I’m really curious about the end, cause it looked like a giant hyperspace ring like the Jedi starfighters used.

kamenriderhime

LOL it was pretty great comedy right! Right, that's a good point about the name vs. title for the Inquisitor. CHOPPER!!!!!!!! Oh yeah he definitely has a bit more pronunciation in his warbles now haha. LOL it was so easy to hear him saying bad words in Rebels though, for real! Ooooh that's interesting about the hyperspace ring....I can't wait to see more!

Saltire

Haha when I have a few whiskies my mind becomes clearer sometimes and I remember some of the stuff I used to study! Need to get back to that one day as it always fascinated me.

Loving your reaction to these. But I gotta tell my story: Late 93, starting college, I saw a paperback Star Wars novel at Walmart. To my knowledge Star Wars had basically been dead for 7-8 years, Intrigued, I picked up Dark Force Rising and started reading before I even noticed it was "book 2" of something. I quickly realized but I was hooked and read it all before I had time to pick up Heir to the Empire and get my bearings. My constant thought: This IS Star Wars, and these need to be the next movies. I'm fond of the prequels, but SW novels and comics became my absolute obsession for the next ten years.

kamenriderhime

Thank you!! And oh I love that story!!! You never quite forgot how/when a fandom hooked you, do you! I can see how this was peak Star Wars for so many people for so long, and why it's hard to accept the prequels in place of them. The good thing is, you can always hold them in your heart as canon if you want to! I'm really enjoying reading the series!
