Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to Red vs. Blue season 16, episodes 13 - 15!!!  WHAT?!!?!?
OMG you guys, that ending though!!!!  What the heck just happened?!?!  What an epic finale, filled with drama, friendship, and twists!!!  The stuff with Wash was killing me here, and I couldn't help but get on board with the plan to go save him!  But it turns out that that plan - and every other plan executed in this season - was all part of Chrovos' BIGGER plan?!!?  Wooowww!!  And now the timeline reset or something?!?!!?  What the heck!!!  You guys, when I said I wanted pizza back, this is NOT what I had in mind!  What a batch and season - I can't wait to see where we go from here!  Great eps!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

For clarity, the act of saving Wash was a paradox. The paradox, in one fell swoop, seemingly reset time right back to the start of the Blood Gulch Chronicles. It is interesting to note that Sarge's meeting with Grif and Simmons happened BEFORE the "why are we here" bit (it happens after in the original) And Grif asked the question "Why are we here" when Simmons asked it originally. After everything they've been through, a single shot undid their entire lives together. But even back at the beginning, things aren't quite the same anymore... You'll love next season, Melissa. It's a damn good one.

In spite of my grievances last batch, I like the final episodes, and it honestly makes me like this Season and this Arc in spite of some of the decisions this Season made. Wash and Carolina in particular and Jen and Shannon's acting for them in their final scene here was spectacular and makes me tear up every time. I also really loved the parallel with Wash during Muggins's speech. Even Grif and Genkins's conversation kinda gives me chills. Genkins is kinda like this psychopath that can crack jokes one second and send you into a black hole in the next or deliver a shocking revelation the next. Similar to Loki he's very unpredictable. For clarification, time was reset because Wash didn't get shot. The Hammer was seemingly created to harm Chrovos in some way. I think the tension in that scene is supposed to communicate this tension of what will happen first, time being broken by a paradox, seemingly freeing Chrovos, or him being stopped by Donut? And it was cool that the main heroes and protagonists where characters that don't usually get the spotlight; Donut, Grif, and Doc. Hell in Doc's introduction in Season 2 neither side wanted anything to do with him and he was left alone in a cave and was using his radio, which allowed the original O'Malley to infect him. I'm so excited for Season 17.

“If you had told me the next arc was going to be AI gods, pizza and time travel… I’m not sure I would have believed you.” Me: “You watch Jojo… and this is what you’re having a hard time with?” I think one of the most compelling things about this season is the dynamic between Carolina and Washington (not gonna lie I do kinda ship them). But what’s worse? Being the one with the injury itself or the one who has to watch the fallout… without completely shattering the person? There’s not really a good answer… and no matter what you choose, there’s a hole in it. Mugging was right when he gave the speech about friends. Also Rooster Teeth and friends is not a topic we’re unfamiliar with - but it is true that what we do to our loved ones have far more effect on them, intentional or not, than complete strangers. “At the end of the next episode, the pink one steals The Hammer!” - Genkins in episode 12 “I like posting spoilers on YouTube!” - also Genkins (the G is hard, he said so himself). So Genkins posts spoilers, killed Huggins, and wiped pizza from existence all for a laugh. Move over, Palpatine? The gods story reminds me a lot of the story of Zeus imprisoning the Titans… there are a lot of similarities. Sister and Tucker are one of those pairs that always let their words get in the way of their actual feelings - emotional stuff is hard! I’m at a certain point in Hunter x Hunter so when Caboose yelled four percent interest I laughed way harder than I should have… also nice golf club. Okay so, Donut was in the process of using The Hammer on Crovos’ prison. Here’s what happened: if Wash doesn’t get shot, the end of S15 and all of S16 doesn’t play out the way it does up to and including this episode. They’ve created a paradox. When the soldier who shot Wash wasn’t allowed to finish the job, everything went white and faded. “How much damage can saving one man cause?” Maybe you shouldn’t have asked that… Put another way… think of it like if someone went back to Episode I of Star Wars, and killed Palpatine before he even became Chancellor or met Anakin. Things would not unfold the way they were supposed to, they couldn’t… which brings us back to the closed time Loop and free will discussion. By the way Loki S2 is coming next month while we’re on this topic. Also, kinda surprised you didn’t get more into the Donut vs Doc wrestling match, we had an arena for you and everything! The whole time battle scene reminded me of a movie but can’t remember which one. Anyway this is the second season of the Shisno Trilogy. There is more to cover after the end of next season, but you’ll be caught up before you know it. I’m not sure when the final season will begin as of yet though. But you’ve got several more to go still. :)

You know when Donut steps up he really steps it up. That was an amazing sequence. He’s been doing his own thing this whole time, it really did feel like an inner battle while fighting the enemy. 🍩

That's great to hear, they were pretty epic! Omg, the Wash and Carolina stuff was phenomenal. The parallel during the speech was a great touch too. The dialogue with Genkins was great too, I can definitely see the chilling aspect. He's a wild card for sure Thanks for clarifying! Right, it was like a race to see which decision landed first. I know, I loved getting focus on characters who never get it! That's really sad about Doc actually, good point! I can't wait for the next season!!!

Hahahha I mean at this point, literally nothing should surprise me right? I agree about Wash and Carolina, and it's hard not to ship them a little! But yeah, it would suck pretty hard to be on either side honestly. I know, Muggins was right! And so true, the effect we have on people we care about is pretty profound. OMG, Genkins might top the list even over Palpatine and Dio!!! That's crazy!!! Yeah good call about Zeus and the Titans. Yeah I hope Sister and Tucker can get it right one day, but right now I'm not sure if they'll get the chance, sheesh. HAHAHAHAHAHA omg I didn't even think of HxH but wow, that was well timed since you're at the part :P Ohhhh ok thank you for clarifying! Yeah, apparently a lot of damage, yikes. Oh yeah I can see how this would remind you of Loki lol, I'm not sure when I'll get to see season 2. But yeah, good analogy about Star Wars and the closed time loop. Oh I was happy to see the match, but was just trying to keep the heck up with what was happening! It was like something out of a movie wasn't it. Ok cool, thanks for letting me know where I'm at with everything!!! So season 19 is the new one right? I heard it was coming in the fall but I haven't heard any updates so maybe not? Guess we'll see!

Another time line....? Time isn't made out of lines. it is made out of circles. Or after a paradox some vaguely round things with a few dents that are wildly twisted with each other. :D

I think this is a great final set of episodes. I think the story of the origins of the gods is really interesting being like a lot of religious origin stories while having interjections of shenanigans from the crew making fun of how stereotypical this is as an origin. It’s also kind of a mix and match with some parts of different religious origin stories mostly from Christianity and Greek/Roman beliefs from what I can interpret. It’s like how the Greek gods rebelled against their creators the Titans. I’m still not sure how I feel about Simmons realizing these gods being AI extremely powerful and advanced AI sure but not gods like they were going with in the beginning. I know they planned this out in advance but it felt like a back pedal in the moment when I 1st watched episode 13. I am more neutral on it after realizing I felt that way because I wanted gods in the RVB universe although with their power I guess they might as well be gods. Everyone getting energy swords is pretty damn awesome. I do love that Caboose wanted a club instead. I like that because the gods can’t directly interfere with living things the decision of what to do is up to the Reds and Blues. I agree I love the sentiment of Washington’s speech mistakes are how we grow it’s just unfortunate that it might not apply to him because of his condition. It makes sense that this would make Carolina realize not telling him the truth was a mistake and letting him fight in this condition would be an even worse mistake. It’s understandable why this would make him upset being in the dark but it still sucks to see him so angry at his friends especially Carolina after everything that they have been through together. Shannon did a great job voicing Wash’s anger here. You can’t blame Donut for deciding to take the hammer to Chrovos when his friends have been treating him badly but it is still sad to see the team lose both him and Washington. I love the conversation Tucker & Kai in episode 14. It’s great to see him being introspective after the mistakes he has made in season 15 and 16. It’s sad to see how much he blames himself/feels he has failed his friends so much when a lot of those things can’t fully be blamed on him besides the stuff with Sis. I wouldn’t be surprised if he found a way to blame himself for what happened to Epsilon as well. I think it’s really mature of Kai to share this personal story in my opinion so that she & Tucker can understand each other as well as realizing they were both being mean because of their own insecurities. It’s sad to learn about her insecurities that are still there really deep down but it’s great to see she won’t let that stop her from embracing/being who she is as much as she does. Even though she says her feelings for him are gone now I think there is a chance that they could have a romantic relationship far in the future when they have grown/changed. I like the moment when she gets him out of his own head and gets him to do something. I wish we could have seen it but I think there were moments of everyone else being introspective but after the focus the rest of the characters have had it makes sense that they wouldn’t have shown/made those kind of scenes. I really love everyone especially after all the focus/character development is all in on stopping Wash from getting shot because of how much they care about him & that he would do everything in his power to help them if they needed it. I feel bad that Huggins is upset that Grif is breaking her trust after seeing them become friends. It sucks that Huggins was taken out because Genkins was working for the bad guys. Also you could compare him to the Loki of these gods. I love the speech about how important friends are its powerful especially with the scenes being shown. The fates are definitely ominous here and I like that they warn the audience about what’s going to happen in the finale. I love how much faith all of us have in the Reds and Blues after watching them for so long. I enjoy the strategy they were using for the plan to save Washington after going back in time but of course the interesting thing about time travel is how easily complications can arise. It’s funny but sad that we learn that Wash was talking to future Carolina when we know he’s about to be shot. I think it’s cool that Grif is the one who figured out that something was wrong because of his love of pizza especially from a favorite restaurant of his. Simmons worrying about him going off on his is a nice moment. I love that Donut is smart enough to realize Chrovos has been using him this entire time & even though his friends are not the best he cares about them more than any promises this God can make. It works for his character but it’s a real dick move for Genkins to taunt Grif with pizza. It’s definitely not a good reason but it’s a classic thing for an immortal to become bored with how things are and I like that aspect of his reasoning. Donut’s fight against O’Malley is so impressive & creative being a fight through time & I love the variety of places/times we see. I agree that this is like a confronting himself/ coming to terms with things kind of fight for Donut. I think it’s great how much the environments affect/are used in this fight like the American flag on the moon, the wrestling stuff & especially the grenade. I love how awesome/badass Donut is in this fight because we haven’t really gotten a long moment of him being like this. I think my favorite part of this is the wrestling because it felt really comedic while also feeling awesome and just all around fun but I think it’s all great. Also him timing the grenade throw perfectly to defeat O’Malley was amazingly clever it’s such a hype moment and I really like his power stances. I can’t remember for sure but when it was coming out I think I was overly critical of this fight but after watching it again with you I can safely say that I love it. Grif thought he was stalling by letting Genkins monologue so much but unfortunately it was the other way around. Also the voice actor for Genkins who I can’t remember at this moment was brilliantly chewing the scenery with his monologue. I think having time slow down right before the paradox was a great way to increase the suspense of what was happening. Yeah basically the paradox is that saving Wash means that they would have no reason to time travel to save him in the 1st place I believe. It’s sad to see all of them unable to do anything as time is breaking as they also try to say goodbye. I don’t think anyone is supposed to understand what is going on at the end of this season except that something is wrong. I don’t know what the song Rush is supposed to be about but I think your thoughts/interpretation makes sense with the melancholic feel of the song. The character development/exploration is the best part of this season for me so I’m glad you enjoyed it. Awesome reaction & thoughts. Keep up the great work. :-) <3
