Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to RvB season 17, eps 9 - 12!  WHOA!!!  You guys, what a finale!  The twists, turns, drama, character development, etc.!  What a finale!  I love that we got a moment for each character that really summed up a struggle for them, and showed them overcoming it with the help of their friends.  Carolina especially!  The moment with Wash and Carolina was amazing and gut wrenching all at once.  Of course my man would willingly make such a sacrifice!!!  The twist with Chrovos/Genkins was awesome too, talk about a time loop or whatnot!  All in all, this felt like a great way to wrap up everyone's story, and WOW was it an awesome season!  The writing was really off the charts in this one!  I had a blast with it, and I'm gonna miss things being the way we're used to in the seasons to come!  Great eps and great season!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

So there's 1 more song in the Season 17 Soundtrack. It's called Blood Gulch Blue and played in the final scene when Wash was saying his goodbyes to everyone in the last episode of the Season. It's sung by Meredith Hagen who also sung the Season 13 Contact Reprise. Also you're probably thinking of Season 13's ending as that was Epsilon Church's sacrifice. I honestly appreciate what they did with Tucker in that scene with Felix and Genkins, acknowledging his failings and that Donut is a good leader in his own right. I liked everyone's visions that we saw. The heart to heart with Grif and Sister. Grif's reveal that his coach, Prestwood is why he hates effort itself and that he left willingly and wasn't drafted. Also love that Prestwood was played by the writer of this Season, Jason Weight. Also I loved that scene of Doc accepting O'Malley as a part of him and how Matt Hullem was able to portray that with his voice acting. I loved everything with Carolina vs Carolina. It reminds me of a certain fight from Star Wars Rebels. "Look what has become or you. A rat in the desert." "Look what I have risen above." "I have come to kill you but, perhaps it's worse to leave you here, festering in your squalor." "If you define yourself by your power, to take life, the desire to dominate, to possess, then you have nothing." Her perception of her younger self is far harsher than the reality because that's how she sees herself now and she's risen above that person. She's found something stronger than strength and greater than competition. She found a family. Something worth fighting for. That shot of all her friends holding her and backing her up is one of my favorites in the series alongside the Season 10 finale when everyone was standing together in a circle against the 100 Tex Robots. This is definitely in my top 10 favorite Seasons of the show. I kinda see Zero as more of spinoff than like a mainline continuation of Season 17, looking forward to seeing what you think though.

So first off, Wash and Carolina did finally get to have that little heart-to-heart… you kept asking if there was a way for him not to go through with it, but there isn’t… just like Tucker KNOWS Felix is a rotten egg… yet he can’t do anything about it because the timeline must stay so certain events occur as they must. You may have experienced similar difficulties with these emotions during your time watching Clone Wars… 😉 I would also point out Caboose isn’t really a genius on purpose, he kinda does it all by accident. He just saw something he liked and took a swing at it… OMG THE GRAPHICS ARE TERRIBLE! Fourth wall break, much? So Sarge wanted to die in battle while killing a Nazi… so they threw him directly into the storming of Normandy Beach… which was brutal. (If you ever saw Spielberg’s war epic, Saving Private Ryan, you might have an idea.) The Labyrinth was making Washington lead a charge where he watched everyone close to him due, he was saying their names as he loaded his gun as he prepared to go out in a blaze of glory. So, Lopez went back to the beginning of his life… and then he was tricked into thinking he was a man and he spoke English translated to Spanish… and then he went to the beginning of time… no wonder he’s jaded! 😆 So Genkins became Chrovos because he tricked the Reds and Blues and tricked Chrovos, then was tricked by them… you know I though we were loopy enough with the time stuff already this week but I guess not! The next season will focus on an entirely new cast of characters as the main group. So let’s just leave it at that for now. Last thing about this batch: the clue came back. MEMORY IS THE KEY.

Manny

Man that’s it. We’re basically done. From what I’m reading in the comments, a whole new crew is going to emerge. Until the new season, we won’t see our guys. You said everything I wanted to and I’m extremely satisfied with this end. I just want to soak this all in. There’s something beautiful about a project with such longevity coming to an end. It’s bittersweet. And I can’t image being there at the beginning, when the show was for laughs, and later turned those laughs into a complex story along the way. It’s just so well done. I’m hoping we hear everything in the new season. It wouldn’t be the same without the OGs. I’m hoping for a hug surprise of some kind that’ll blow the fans away! I love this show 🤞

So I didn't realize it until I watched your reactions, but at one point in the season, Chrovos says "It's a wonder I even remember my own name" and it immediately hit me that she *didn't* remember her own name. Also, as a followup to what I said last week, it appears that Genkins could only take over other AI. He mostly just took over Church, but he also inhabited Andy the bomb, Tex, and Lopez 2.0. He even went into Tucker's AI module, but could only talk to Tucker.

kamenriderhime

Ohhhhh wow!!! That's so true, wow! Ohhh ok, that's why he was so focused on those characters, makes sense!! Thanks for clarifying!

kamenriderhime

I know, it's really sort of the end isn't it! It really is bittersweet! Isn't it incredible how this went from a bunch of friends having fun to this amazing complex story?! It's amazing! Yeah I have a feeling the new season might go back to the OGs!!! And a huge surprise would be a great way to take out the show's finale!!!! Me too!!!! XD

kamenriderhime

I loved their heart to heart!!! I know there wasn't a way around it, it's just still so sad! Yup, it takes me right back to my trauma from CW!!! :/ That's true, a lot of Caboose's genius is all by chance, but I really feel like some of it is just that his mind sees things others can't sometimes, in a way. Hahahaha total fourth wall break! Ohhh is that what happened with Sarge, got it! And thanks for clearing that up about Wash. OMG poor Lopez!!!! No wonder indeed! Oh yeah the Genkins thing adds in a whole new fun wibbly wobbly loop doesn't it! Oh man, I'll be sad to not see our crew but I'll look forward to the new cast! OMG MEMORY WAS THE KEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *mind explodes*

kamenriderhime

Oh I didn't know that about the song! Should I put it at the beginning of the next reaction? Let me know! Yeah I think that's what I was thinking of. I loved what they did with Tucker in that scene, it showed a lot for both Tucker and Donut! The stuff they did with the characters in their separate "prisons" was great, what a great chance to flesh some characters out. Oh yeah the Carolina vs. Carolina fight was very Star Wars-ish!! Oh dang, it relates to Rebels really well doesn't it!! Exactly, she's seeing her old self that way because of how far she's come now. I love the shot of them backing her up, it's so epic!! It's right up there with the Tex army for sure! I can see why this one ranks so high for you! Me too! Interesting, I'll be curious to see what Zero is all about!!! I'll find out soon!

Brandon Dodge

Yeah I'd be okay seeing that song at the beginning of the next reaction. Looking forward to Zero.

Cody

Overall this trilogy definitely wasn’t as good as the Freelancer arc or Chorus trilogy, but it was still really good and finally gave some development to a bunch of characters like Grif, Donut, and bringing Sister back (as well as actually giving her a name lol). And I really like what they did with Wash. Zero is going to be interesting cause I actually watched the first 3 episodes when they first came out but never finished it, maybe cause I hadn’t seen the rest of RvB, I can’t remember it’s been a few years lol.

kamenriderhime

Yeah it had some really great points for sure! Getting a name was a big step for Sister hahaha. The Wash stuff was great! Oooh interesting about Zero, I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on it!!!

These are a great set of episodes for the finale. I love how to avoid a paradox Tucker has to face a terrible moment & make sure that he and his friends lost which must have been really hard to do. Honestly Genkins trying to get Tucker to kill Felix was a clever plan since Tucker might want to do it when you consider what Felix is like and what he put them all through. I love how much trust Tucker has in Donut right now because of hearing & seeing how Donut has stepped up as a leader much like he himself did in the past. I love Tucker’s speech about leadership here reflecting his journey throughout the show & is especially great to see after the mistakes and what he has been learning in this trilogy. Like bravery & confidence are important but you won’t always feel that way & questioning yourself and fear can be important as well which is a really good lesson here. Felix’s reactions to this speech knowing nothing especially this version of himself pretending not to be completely awful is hilarious particularly his delivery of the concussion line. I think it’s great to see Tucker complimenting Donut’s leadership/reassuring him when Donut worries he’s not doing good enough it’s a nice moment. I love how awesome Donut is when telling Genkins that he can no longer beat them now that everyone is working together and saying what he does while Genkins is possessing the Meta just makes it cooler. Also basically Genkins can only possess hosts who are AI or have equipment that is compatible with AI which makes sense when he himself Is a very advanced AI. I love the scene with Wash & Carolina talking it’s indeed emotional. I think the best part of it is the emphasis on their friendship/family relationship and how much they care about each other it’s really bittersweet but sadly heartwarming. It was unfortunately inevitable but I like the focus on how a disease/disability doesn’t really change who someone is as someone with a disability. The voice acting is incredible in that scene especially for Carolina. I love the back and forth between Chrovos & Genkins at the end especially the voice acting showing how much anger she has as well as the manipulative nature of Genkins. I think Genkins made a compelling offer when in her mind it was impossible for him to kill our heroes. It makes sense that he would stab her in the back with what we have seen of him & his personality and unfortunately no one wants someone like him with ultimate power but no one can say he’s not enjoying it LOL. His plan to just get others to kill the Reds and Blues to get even more power is really smart. I think him just stopping time right before Wash is able to sacrifice himself and fix everything is a crazy moment & really unsettling as Genkins gloats about how he is going to basically just toy with them until he’s done having his fun and decides to get them killed. I love episode 10. Locus’s what the hell response to Wash trying to get shot is amazing. I love Sister being attracted to Locus seeing him kick ass it’s hilarious and you can’t blame her LOL. I think it’s awesome that even with how bad things look now that preventing the paradox has been stopped they immediately start trying to figure out what they can do now that they can’t travel through time now. I like the scene with Donut & Chrovos. Her still being megalomaniacal but getting more characterization is something I enjoy. Also Donut’s deadpan reaction to her monologuing is fantastic. Caboose having accidentally chosen the weapon that could hurt Genkins as his gift is awesome. I like that a plan comes together because of something as simple as physical objects being able to travel through the time portals. After everything he’s done I have to admit I get a bit of a dark satisfaction seeing Genkins get impaled by the golf club. They did a great job of making him losing it at the end here really unnerving with the glitchy animation of his movements as well as the frankly disturbing voice acting/laughter. And unfortunately for the group he had one more plan as a backup which was tramping them in a simulation of their greatest fears. It’s really sad to see all of them freaking out at the end there. Episode 11 is great with the way it shows how scary the labyrinth is in how it works as well as how it focuses on the characters by going into what they are afraid of. Like with Wash it's the fear of losing his friends/family & even though we know it’s not real it’s rough that he had to experience that situation. I always love the concept of the stronger a character is the stronger their prison is when it’s used in a story so it was interesting to see how this story would handle it. The labyrinth also giving you what you want in the scariest way is interesting. On the Sarge part if no one told you it was his biggest fear being stuck in the life of monotony/boredom as an office worker and what he most wants storming a beach during WWII. I love the direct characterization of Grif’s laziness because of a horrible gym teacher that made him hate effort which is sad I agree. But I personally think that means when he has put in effort for things it’s because he wanted to & cares about his friends like we saw in season 15 which makes those moments more powerful in my opinion. At 1st Lopez’s biggest fear leads to a funny scene but then it gets sad when we have to see him in a depressive state not being a robot & ending up in the black hole especially after all of us have gotten attached to him over the course of the show. The fact that this is the ultimate goal of this place was a great way to make everyone really worry about the characters and create tension/stakes in a interesting way. Although I love that Carolina’s biggest fear is herself or rather who she used to be & I think it’s the best one because it integrates really well with her story/character since she was introduced. I love the voice acting Jen really brought it with being able to show so much rage in her voice alone. Carolina’s whole speech is incredibly well written & acted especially the dad won’t love you more line like that’s a big yikes/oof you can really hear the grief over what she has done in addition to the anger. Then for her old self to just start mocking her Jesus that’s rough. Jen Brown went all in on voice acting as the biggest bitch possible with other Carolina the difference/range is impressive. And then it just decides to try mentally breaking her by attacking all of Carolina’s insecurities that are still there because insecurities like that don’t just go away it’s something you have to be able to move past those feelings even when it can be hard. I love that Doc ends up being part of why he & Donut are able to save their friends. I love the resolution of the Doc & O’Malley thing that has kind of always been there and I like how it’s done a little meta with the popularly line but what I really love about this is how it settles on both of his personalities realizing that they are stronger together. Doc just going “oh original O’Malley he’s nothing compared to me” as he has easily beaten Washington’s simulation is awesome. I love how Kai’s nightmare led to a wonderful sibling moment once Grif shoots the labyrinth which has taken his form. So interesting that Grif who hates effort decided to enlist to have some direction. I love how they are forgiving each other here even if these are not things they necessarily need forgiveness for because they are talking about things that have obviously been weighing on them it’s just a very heartwarming scene. Also it hits even more for me as an older brother myself. As for Simmons biggest fear I don’t even want to touch that one LOL. I love that once Carolina sees everyone else she becomes reinvigorated & ready to fight herself. The concept of fighting a mirror of yourself whether literally or metaphorically is always amazing & this scene does not disappoint. Also I like how the labyrinth attacks Carolina with words 1st before action I find it interesting since action is what I would assume to be what happened 1st instead. I love the action here with all the awesome really quick movements that in my opinion are very dynamic. Also I am not sure but I sink some of the attacks/moves are ones she used in previous seasons. It was really thematic to have the fight move on to the training floor when that part of her life has had such a lasting impact on her. I love that she can’t beat herself but doesn’t have to because of her friends/family being people who make her stronger because she wants to protect them especially because it’s such a big part of her journey as a character. It’s sad to think that Tucker’s biggest fear is being alone. I love that the labyrinth is unable to affect Caboose because he’s himself such a bad ass. I like how quickly Donut comes up with a plan realizing the true connection between Genkins & Chrovos just letting him jump into the black hole. Also whoever did the motion capture for him must have been having a lot of fun being asked to give highly emphasized double middle fingers LMAO. It’s so crazy that the writers had the villain lose because of a bootstrap paradox where he was always Chrovos & she was always Genkins but I like it. I appreciate the realism of Wash being afraid to finish what they all started because it’s going through something traumatizing by choice & it makes my heart warm seeing them all ready to be at his side. I love the slow melancholy version of the original RVB song it feels like the band is giving itself a sendoff not being in the rest of the show & I’m not ashamed to say it got me crying. I agree that it’s nice that this ending is open-ended basically saying that the adventures/journeys will continue even if we don’t get to see them. I like that after everything Donut has gone through he has decided to go off on his own to figure himself out. Also Lopez knowing so much about & having seen so much of the universe is cool even if none of the guys except maybe Grif will be able to hear about it. You getting teary-eyed when this finale ended made me happy because it shows how much you love the show. This show means a lot to me so I’m glad you got to see why it means so much to people. I honestly think the song my best enemy was just a cool song they chose for the credits but I enjoyed it & I thought your interpretation was interesting. I agree that this ranks up high when it comes to best/favorite seasons. From I have heard about the next seasons I don’t have much interest in them so I won’t be watching those reactions but I have enjoyed this journey with you so much & I can’t wait to send a comment about the trailer for the final season and I hope you enjoy Zero. Awesome reaction & thoughts. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

kamenriderhime

Yes, Tucker's dilemma was fascinating to watch! Carolina was definitely a lot of fun to watch in this one! I thought it was a great finale and I can't wait for the final season!
