Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 1, episode 7 of Ahsoka!!!  Wow you guys, so much going on in this one!  The red tape stuff with Hera drives me crazy!  Good thing we had an old friend show up, on behalf of another old friend, to clear things up!!!  Watching Ezra and Sabine fight together again brought back so many good memories.  And to have Ahsoka reunited with them feels wonderful!!!  Bad news about Thrawn being so close to reemerging into the "main" galaxy though, yikes.  Guess we'll see how all that goes in the finale!!!  Can't wait!
Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Ray Stevenson really makes me think of Alec Guinness and Christopher Lee with his performance. If he didn't have this type of weight behind his performance the whole thing falls apart. Guinness obviously gave the first movie credibility and Lee somehow made his dialogue in the prequels palatable. For Stevenson, he has to balance a number of tones here and I think he really pulled it off.

Love Hera flinging the filth back at Senator Xiono. He is what we in the UK call, a git! I kind of like him though, the actor is great at bringing across the negligence and hypocrisy that will bog down this New Republic until its too late. I love that they brought him in too for Star Wars Resistance fans, since the lead character in that series, is his son. C-3P0 showing up was a lovely moment, and they gave him a little hint of the Star Wars theme too, very nice. Acting on behalf of Leia, he saves the day, yay! Hera has been there for them in the past, and Leia - the boss that she is - is there backing Hera! :) Haha, when Xiono is mocking the evidence from a droid, Chopper is ready to go to war!! Btw what health regime is Mon Mothma on, she hasn't aged a day in the 17 years since Andor! ;) Was not expecting Holo-Anakin to show up either as Ahsoka does a technique kata. Hearing Asajj Ventress being uttered by Hayden Christensen too, feels great. God I hope Filoni can finish her story some day, she became such an iconic character. Ahsoka mentions he was a good master, true, from a certain point of view... I like how she then puts the holo recording in a box along with the rest, showing how much they mean to her. The Jedi of old would say that could be the shadow of attachment, but Ahsoka is able to balance her attachment to Anakin and her friends, as good as anyone. Huyang getting touchy about the co-ordinates being correct as they may not even be in the same galaxy as Sabine and co. I think this feels like a skit from Doctor Who for David Tennant, which is a lovely touch, even as someone like myself who doesn't watch that, it felt like it could certainly be from there. :D Did Thrawn save up all the mines from the entire Empire, as my god, there looks like millons of them! Poor Purgil being struck by them, however if they can take down Star Destroyers by banging into them, will mines affect them? They might be impervious to the mines, but Ahsoka's T-6 Jedi Shuttle, isn't and she has to do some fancy flying of her own (and she was always a fair pilot too), to escape the minefield. Even then however, she isn't out of Dodge from Thrawn yet, especially as ships then come after her. He was prepared, our dangerous blue friend! Love the moment of hesitancy from Thrawn as he realises that Ahsoka is Anakin's apprentice. He did know Anakin and worked a lot with Vader and in some canon comics and books, his keen intellect put two and two together. He knows if she was trained by him and has lasted this long after the Clone War, she will be a formidable opponent. He is smart though, trying to put her into a limited position of her choosing, to slow her down. Moving onto Ezra and Sabine where we see them catch up a bit, and you can see she feels more relaxed now having one of her adopted family back. They way they banter and riff off each other is nice, and the two actors have great chemistry making it feel like our Sabine and Ezra of old. Like the line too about Palpatine being killed as "so they say" - you can feel Dave Filoni winking at us with that one! :D Ezra being one of us when Sabine mentions Ahsoka took her on as an apprentice : "what, why, really?" :D Nice moment though when Ahsoka reaches out in the force and Sabine can sense her, she knows Ahsoka survived at least and that comforts her, and confirms she's opening up in the force. You can see Ezra recognising this part as he did with Kanan a number of times. Baylan letting Shin off the leash, he knows she's not ready, but he feels where he is going she must not follow and her ambition is driving her elsewhere. You can sense her fear as she will have to go on her own path now and make her own decisions free of her master. Kind of like Ezra's fighting style, very Shaolin monk in technique and using his gifts in the force to disable too. Its a great way to show how Jedi should perhaps fight, as Yoda once said "A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, NEVER for attack.", its a defensive style of fighting and gets the job done. All without a lightsabre at that. Kanan once said that Ezra would need to solve problems without a lightsabre, he couldn't then, but he can now. Its a good point you make Mel about Baylan and Ahsoka being two sides of the same coin. They both saw the fall of the Jedi Order and went down different paths. Ahsoka fought in the rebellion and helped people directly fight back against the Empire, and Baylan is looking to end the cycle entirely his way. As we have said though, what he eventually finds may in fact prove a lot worse than what he wants. Haha Ezra being Ezra, trying to talk his way out of being encompassed. He mentions about being taken as prisoners, we are onto that old trick Ezra, we know you can escape from anything - nice nod back to all the times in Rebels though when 'Jabba' used to escape the imperial clutches! :D Ahsoka is just the best though, coming in clutch again, saving Ezra and Sabine, fighting Shin without even bothering to ignite her lightsabres. Shin you are outclassed my love! When the tides turn and Ahsoka offers to help her you can see the confusion on Shin's face. The first time out on her own didn't go to plan, where does she turn to next? Sabine obviously thought Ahsoka died, understandably but it will take more than a fall into a cliff to stop our girl, the Son couldn't kill her, Vader couldn't; and its too late now, Ahsoka The White is upon us, she will be a beacon of light for all as darkness once again threatens to cover the galaxy. She also repaid the favour of Ezra saving her in the WBW, by doing so here and finding him. Onto the finale, there will be a lot to cover in that, I hope its a long one!

My work is starting to influence you… you started to say “next to last” - but quickly went to “penultimate.” Your training is progressing, padawan. :D Okay, I’m not sure if Senator Xiono (the antagonistical one) is by the book or he’s actually trying to serve his own ends… while Leia’s plot served its purpose, some of that dialogue cast some interesting suspicions. Also, hey, we have a time reference for Mandalorian. I don’t suppose any of that free would possibly make an appearance? While you might be giddy over Hayden appearing again, I think I should point out that we have someone who’s STILL showing up. Anthony Daniels has been doing C-3PO ever since A New Hope, and he’s still doing it here, and he still sounds the same. The guy definitely has sone longevity in his performance. Just as Ahsoka getting a release from Anakin changed her attitude, it kind of feels like Sabine has a huge weight lifted off her shoulders now that Ezra has been found. You asked if Thrawn knew about Anakin - implying the Vader connection - I don’t see how he couldn’t, as Rebels took place after Episode III. As such a high ranking officer, he must’ve had at least some of the facts, and well, we know what Thrawn does with a little information. Okay, the Nightsisters are officially a cheat code. That’s op, “oh they’re hiding over here.” That seems a little too crazy to be real. Apparently the Noti Ezra are hanging out with are far more technologically advanced than I thought initially, wonder if their shell equipment will be getting involved? I have to laugh at a couple of things: the first is Ahsoka and Huyang - the droid is having a rather exasperating day, so much to the point he started getting… sarcastic? And also, his banter with Ahsoka throughout the episode and her behavior as well - I don’t know if she’s even realized it but she’s kinda going full Anakin at certain points. Sabine: Take the lightsaber. Ezra: Who needs a lightsaber when I’ve invented Force Jutsu? Also, can we appreciate that literally ten minutes after three of our Rebels crew were all reunited they were bickering, fighting, and in another insane predicament? Some things just don’t ever change. There are two questions that need to be answered: the first is what is this cargo being loaded onto Thrawn’s ship and why is it so important? The second is, what is Baylan after? Thrawn doesn’t know. Shin doesn’t know. Even our crew has no idea. But this has been building since the first episode, and might even be the key to the whole plot. I can kind of predict what Thrawn us planning. He, on the other hand, is a complete wild card, and there’s not much time left to come up with the answer to that question. But whatever they’re going to do, they’ll need to act fast. As Thrawn says, time isn’t their friend at the moment.

Well you tell ‘em Hime. Fight the power! ✊ It was interesting getting those to know the processes of things work and are approved in the Clone Wars. And I’m not saying protocol shouldn’t go away, they’re there for a reason of course but sometimes you just wanna say “come on give them a break! She saved you didn’t she?!” But that’s a general thing. It’s how our society works too. There’s logic to certain actions yet paperwork and punishment is still inevitable. Anyways it was great seeing C-3PO, he’s as charming as ever, and knowing Leia had our girls back. I love the ending, especially with Ahsoka, Sabine and Ezra. The rapport is like old times. I’m just so in love with how piece by piece where getting incriminates of the classic fun loving crew again. Really excited seeing Ahsoka and Sabine building a closer bond as teacher and student. It was so awesome to see them getting more along.

kamenriderhime

Oh I can totally see that! The similarities in how they go about their performance are definitely there. He does such a great job of balancing it all for sure!

kamenriderhime

LOL!!!! They better not mess with my friends, I'll get feisty!!!! >.< That's the thing, like I get that structure isn't inherently bad, but on the other hand, it feels like they're defeating their own purpose too. It's totally how our society works too. Hera for real decided to ask for forgiveness and not permission on this one, and rightly so, but yeah, these are the consequences sadly. 3P0 and the mention of Leia were so great! I know, it really felt like old times with that ending didn't it! I'm so happy they're getting closer too!!! It's about time!! Our family's getting back together, yay!!!

kamenriderhime

Hahahaha every once in a while I remember! :P I mean, I was kinda thinking that about the senator too, that it's possible he has his own agendas, but I'm trying to give the benefit of the doubt that he's just being hardnosed and not sneaky. He still ticks me off though haha. Loved the mention of the Mandalorian! Oh I know, Anthony Daniels is MVP for sure!! Yeah I agree that Sabine has been able to come out the other side of some of her issues too, now that we're reunited with Ezra. That's true about Vader, I just didn't know who all in the Empire was really in on that, or if it was kept hush hush. Thrawn is high ranking though, so he'd probably know. Hahahha the Nightsisters are totally a cheat code!!! No fair!! Ahsoka's totally gone full Anakin in her banter at some points here, and poor Huyang is just being pushed to the brink lol. Force no Jutsu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hahahahha!!! Omg I know, they were acting like a real family here for sure. Yeah good question about the cargo. And about Baylan! He's a wild card alright, I think even Thrawn can sense that. I guess we'll find out in the last ep!!!

So glad Leia sent C-3PO to shut Xiono up, let’s just say I was yelling some…unkind things whenever he was on screen XD I love how Ezra is pretty much just a full on monk now lol. And it’s honestly perfect with how Kanan raised him and how he’s probably spent his years here. And he showed off that even after 10 years away he still has his wit lol. He’s been one of the most perfect castings from the animation-to-live action characters. Really curious how it’s going to end, it feels like there’s still a lot to wrap up in one episode. Especially everything with Baylan and Shin. I’d love to see the earlier parts of Baylan’s life in other stuff, and Shin could end up going any direction honestly. And we still don’t even know what Baylan’s looking for.

kamenriderhime

Omg I can totally see how that would provoke some yelling :P Ezra's totally gone full monk! It does make a lot of sense. He's def still Ezra with the wit though!!! They seriously got his animated-to-live-action transition SO right!! Just posted my reaction to the finale, the ending left me with lots of questions! I'd love to see more info on Baylan too. That's what I said about Shin too! I'll be curious to hear your thought on the finale!!!!

kamenriderhime

Love that name for Xiono lol! And interesting that they brought him into this considering his son is the lead in Resistance! Loved the 3P0 cameo, and you've gotta love our girl Leia coming in to save the day! Chopper was NOT having that slander against droids! Mon Mothma and Bo Katan must have the same anti-aging serum in their beauty regimen, huh??? Loved Holo Anakin too, and hearing Hayden mention Ventress is something none of us ever thought we'd get to see, so awesome! I hope we get more Ventress in the future too. I love that Ahsoka has a whole collection of the recordings, and so true that she seems to be balancing her attachment pretty darn well. Oh I could definitely hear the Doctor coming through in that Huyang bit!! Of course Thrawn was prepared in the worst way, and I think you might be right about the mines!!! Poor Purgils!!! Thanks for clearing that up that he did in fact know about Anakin and worked with Vader closely. I'm sure he's able to tell a lot about her just from that info. I loved the banter from Sabine and Ezra, def felt like old times!! Hahah I had to love the little nod to Palpatine's eventual return! I loved the confirmation of Sabine and Ahsoka's connection when Ahsoka reaches out, too, and good point that it shows Sabine's growth in the Force too. HAHAHA Ezra was totally the audience at the beginning of this series when he asked that! I felt kinda bad for Shin, I can see how this is sort of an abandonment yet at the same time I think he may honestly want to protect her from whatever he's getting into. WHOA, I'd totally forgotten that Kanan said that about solving problems without a lightsaber....Ezra took it REAL literally hahaha. But yes, I absolutely love the monk-style, defensive-style technique. I'm glad you liked my point about Baylan and Ahsoka being two sides of the same coin. I think you might be right that what he's looking for might actually be a worse alternative though. Oh I loved Ezra being Ezra lol, wasn't it a nice nod??? I wish he would have said he was Jabba just once though lol. It's totally gonna take more than a cliff to take down Ahsoka!!!! She's darn near invincible at this point. Also good call that this was nice payback for Ezra saving her in the world between worlds!!!! My reaction to the finale is reuploading now, so sorry about the audio issue!!! Hope you love my reaction once it's uploaded!

Saltire

Haha yes Bo-Katan is another who looks great for being in her mid-Fifties! Mind you Ming-Na Wen as Fennec is about 60 now and looks about 40, so it can be done here too without fancy Star Wars bacta medicine! Onto the developments later leading into the sequels, I wonder how they will eventually introduce Snoke? I think they'll deal with Thrawn's stories just now in the build up to the movie, and perhaps then pick up more on First Order stuff, but it would be nice if they could link it up more between both imperial faction remnants to bring around Sidious's return. Yes I would have loved Ezra mentioning Jabba to someone here; but perhaps we'll see it in season 2 or another show when they resume this story. It could be a fun scene with him calling himself Jabba and his captor saying that the big old slug is dead now!

kamenriderhime

LOL what is it with Star Wars women and their age-defying good looks! That's a good thought about Snoke, it seems like things might naturally lead up to that right? It would be nice to have that all fleshed out and linked together. Hahah I'm hoping for a Jabba reference too! Especially since we're on the other side of Jabba's reign now, like you said!
