Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 1, episode 8 of Chainsaw Man!  WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guys, there is no way this is really happening!  Like there's NO WAY they took out Makima in 2 seconds!!!  And Himeno.....good lord....I think she might actually be gone :(((  Who the heck are these new people/devils?  Is this an inside job from the higher ups that Makima was going to see?
Are they working for the Gun Devil?!  Are they another party entirely?!!?!?  If this all really sticks with these deaths, there's really no going back from here....!!!  Great ep!  Can't wait for more!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

It's time to strap in, because this Roller Coaster isn't going to stop anytime soon. It's time for the Painsaw Man. :c ...You kind of have to wonder how much of Aki's Life that use of the Curse Devil just cost him.

I feel like Himeno wasn't a bad person, and shes actually one of my fav characters, just came really close to doing a terrible thing. I didnt wish that on her :(

Hi Hime :) Denji's advantage as shown here, if he has blood he regenerates, like a fiends, but he is human, which makes him a special case in many ways. The hand you see pulling Denji's crank is that of the ghost devil with whom Himeno made a contract, as you guessed later. The bar scene with Himeno vomiting while kissing Denji really has this shocking side, especially with what follows when she takes him home. But despite that, we really end up liking her... For the time she has. This is one of the characteristics of Fujimoto (the author of the manga), succeeding in creating characters truly full of flaws, but endearing, human in short, in just a few pages. Because we only knew Himeno here for a little more than 3 episodes, which is not a lot of chapters in manga you imagine, and yet all readers and people who have seen the anime will never forget Himeno. With the intro to episode 8, you have an example of Mappa's specialty, recreating a scene seen previously, but with another angle. They did it here, but in season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen, they did it more than once too, just in episode 15 that you posted today, we have this effect. Makima holding Denji around her finger with just a few things, whether it's promising to do what he wants if he kills the Gun Devil, saying that her type of man is the "Denji" type or even the lollipop and the indirect kiss, she has a wide open entryway to get into Denji's head. Yes the one who attacks Denji and the others is like Denji, I don't remember if it's the sword devil or the katana devil though. The nail that Power is talking about is Aki's sword, which is in contract with the curse devil, allowing you to kill an enemy more easily (with the countdown), but reducing Aki's life as Himeno said previously. The guy with the Katana says it himself, the gun devil wants the heart of Denji (so Pochita) and the others who attacked, uses Guns, so yeah, it's easy to imagine that they work for the Gun Devil. I can imagine your expressions very well for the next episodes, knowing what is coming and next week can never come quickly enough. If I remember correctly, it will be one of my favorite parts of this season 1, so even more eager to see that.

The nail is Aki's sword. This is the first time we've seen him use it, but Himeno told Denji that using it will take years off Aki's life, and now we find out that it's because it's part of a contract with the Curse Devil, in which Aki has to hit the enemy with the sword a certain number of times (3 in this case), and it will cause the enemy's instant death from the Curse. That action scene is worth a rewatch, since there was a lot going on and I think you missed what was happening during this part of it.

Oh, hey, look, everybody, she made it to THIS episode! 😁 First I should probably make a note that everything Himeno was doing to Denji in the first few minutes was not something she was cognizant that she was doing - which she confirms later. Also it seems that Makima went to get Denji medicine after his… experience, and tried to at least get his mind off of that. First thing to point out is when they’re on the train, I don’t think you picked up on it - a few seconds before Makima and her partner took bullets, everything else on the train slumped over. When you see all those people in different areas pulling out guns at exactly the same time, and then shooting? Including the granny who was aiming for Arai and Kibeno - first, no Power, that’s not a taiko drum - and second, remember what they said… “the Gun Devil is capable of killing hundreds of people in seconds.” I think it doesn’t take a genius to figure this one out… The thug who shot Denji was holding a picture of his father, the mob boss who was taking Denji for everything he had when he first met him, and then double crossed him. I think Ali’s sensitivity is part of why Himeno both adores him and worries about him - but more importantly, who’s this girl, what’s with this creature attacking us, and - hey, Himeno’s gone gone! What’s next? If you think things are weird enough already… no, you should be used to this by now. 🙃

Hey Melissa, The two episodes were fantastic. First the very short but cool fight with the infinity devil and then the very extravagant first kiss scene with Denji and Himeno. After I saw the scene for the first time, I didn't like it myself. I can't watch anything that has to do with vomiting, but now that I knew it was coming I could mentally prepare myself for it. I felt bad for Denji because no one should experience their first kiss like that. But I doubt that Makima would be a better candidate for Denji's first kiss. Episode 8 was really shocking. I never expected that we would have to say goodbye to characters so soon. I really liked Himeno and I will also miss her little romance with Aki. She didn't deserve to die so soon. But she sacrificed herself for her friends and so her death was not unnecessary. Maki's "death" (I'm pretty sure she can't die that easily) was also very surprising.

Ohhh ok! Thanks for the info. Right, I remember them saying that about the lifespan stuff. I'll try to give it a rewatch, I tend to miss some stuff on the first watch when things are happening fast!

Hey Leonie! :) They were so good! Ugh I hear you, that was a rough scene to get through lol. Poor Denji! I kinda wish his first kiss could just be with someone who's kissing him because they like him and not for any ulterior motives lol. I know, I still can't believe it!!! I liked Himeno's relationship with Aki too! I have a feeling you're right about Makima, it seems pretty solid that she got shot but I still just don't buy it!!! What a twist though!!!

Ahhhh this one was SO rough! Right, I know she wasn't really herself cause of how drunk she was - it was still pretty cringey though lol. I know, Makima was trying to look out for him and was helping him again. Ohhhh I didn't catch that about the train. OHHHHHHH.....was that a hint?! Like are they implying that all those people ARE the gun devil?! Oh ok, thanks for clearing that up about the picture. I know, I think Himeno really truly cared about Aki.....can't believe she's gone gone! I'm not sure what's going on with the girl either. Guess we'll find out!!!

Hi Spadeas! :) Right, I was able to put that together about the hand later on, yay! I agree about Himeno, she really is likeable despite not always, erm, doing the right thing. The scene was pretty shocking lol. I love that Mappa does that so effectively with recreating a scene from another perspective! Yeah Makima's really got a hold on Denji. Cool, glad I guessed right about the one who shot Denji having a similar power. That would be my first guess, that they work for the Gun Devil. OMG, sounds like I have a lot ahead of me lol!!!!

Oh for sure Himeno was blackout drunk....she doesn't remember ANY of that. Finding Makima's lolipop in Denji's pocket was enough of a turnoff to her that she just tossed it aside in disgust and (thankfully) passed out. I watched Chainsaw Man in Dub first, with Katelyn Barr voicing Himeno...and sounding an awful lot like Caitlin Glass, really! In the dub Himeno asks "do you want to do it?" and Denji says "Do what?"...and Himeno replies with a coy, drawn out "....FFuuuuuuuck." and it's kinda funny. Raunchier than "have sex" and fitting for the dub version. And as for the assassination up top, this episode was as shocking to me as Attack on Titan Season 1, Ep.3.

Yeah she was definitely not aware of her actions!! Oh no kidding about the dub!! Hahahaha that line actually sounds even funnier!!! OMG I can see why, this was a huge shock!!!
