Hey everyone!  I'm back with Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, episode 18!  OMG :(((((((((((((  I'm still in shock over this one.....like on the one hand, it seemed likely, but on the other hand, it was soooooo sad to actually watch :(((((  Yuji's not gonna let this slide though, I just know it!  Freaking Mahito!!!!!!!!  And now we have to wait and wonder what happened to Nobara too?!?!  Uggghhh!!  I really don't think Mahito realizes how leveled up Yuji is.  I just hope it's enough to take down Mahito!!!  I'm beyond done!!!!  This was a rough one you guys!!!!  Can't wait to see what happens next!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Haven't seen the reaction yet, but based on your description, I wanna explain something. Mahito split himself in two earlier on, so while Yuji fights him down below, Nobara fight him on the street above. It's a coincidentally simultaneous fight. A few reactors I saw were confused about this, so I just wanted to clear that up!

Boy, uh… without giving away anything from other shows… this has kinda been a rough week for you hasn’t it? 😅 Yuji’s thought space at the start is just regurgitating all the conversations and ideals he’s had about his own existence from the start. Nanamin’s walk of death, is equal parts beautiful and chilling… even if he didn’t suffer the fate he did, it doesn’t really appear there was a way he was going to survive. But the fact he took out an entire subway full of corpses before doing so… once a boss, always a boss, right? You were asking earlier about the citizens in the subway: I think Sukuna’s attack was deliberately targeted underground to avoid hitting Fushiguro last episode, and as a result any citizens still down in the area were gruesomely murdered because of it. As Nanamin’s finishing up his curse killing spree he sees Haibara - I’m not sure if you put this quote together but he spent a lot of the scene wondering what he was doing this for - then he sees Haibara point at Yuji - and that’s when he said “I leave the rest to you” to him. Mahito is a special-grade curse with the mindset of a child, so everything and everyone is like, his plaything. Even Jogo was losing patience with him: but showing that he could sneak up to and finish off Nanamin shows you the power level. He does say something important to Yuji - he’s completely comfortable with who he is, and by contrast Yuji has yet to come to terms with all aspects of his being (namely Sukuna). He’s right. You can’t help others if your own mental state isn’t in good shape. Regarding the trump card Mahito mentioned, he was referring to all the people Dagon (octopus) “drank” nearly two hours ago. By contrast, Nobarra has run into Mahito in “present time”, but it’s the Mahito patrolling the streets, as opposed to the Mahito that went underground. She’s got more than her work cut out for her, but she’s not dead, Mahito just plans to use her corpse once he gets it. Shibuya’s gone, but we got a lot to still sort out. Also, did that fight scene make anyone else claustrophobic? 👀

Hi Hime :) You remember two episodes ago, I said that the next three or four might be hard for me, that's one of the reasons... Just one. Nanami remains a great character, his fights against the modified humans were magnificent, with this piano and the transitions between the fights and what he fantasizes, just a very beautiful way of telling this story. Then his death, leaving all his trust in Yuji, showing Yuji that he is human, that he deserves to live and protect people, that he is a trustworthy jujutsu sorcerer, all that was needed for Yuji. What Mahito implies by saying that Yuji is like him is that Yuji kills curses without counting them or necessarily crying for them (apart from the brothers), Mahito does the same for humans, they are two sides of the same coin. It may seem cruel to say that, but when we put ourselves in the place of curses, we have seen it with Dogon, Hanami and Jogo, they have a personality, a bond that unites them, for them, the sorcerers are the bad guys. This episode is called "right and wrong" and it all depends on the point of view you place yourself in, Yuji and Mahito have opposite points of view, but each sees each other as the other sees them.

I’m pissed. I do effing mad. I swear I could even take in or care what Mahito was saying after. I was fuming and wanting his annoying a** to go to hell. Dammit. The minute I saw Nanami walking the beach my heart sunk, and it just got worse as the episode was going. That is a great character you just hate to see go. He had so much more to give. I’ll forever be pissed at Mahito. I hope he goes down because right now I can’t seeing take him. Thank you and rest in peace Nanamin. You were a great presence and friend to us all. We enjoyed watching you. 😥

OMG same!!! I know, as soon as the beach walk started we all knew it was over. :( Mahito needs to pay! I wanna see him taken down for what he did to Nanami! Nanami just never quit, not even when we was close to death. He was a real one. He'll be missed!!!! :'(

Hi Spadeas! :) OMG I know, I thought of you when Nobara popped up at the end too, I was like nooooo not the favorite N characters lol! Everything about those scenes was so beautiful right? Even in his death, he helped Yuji. Ohhhh is that what Mahito was getting at? I mean, it is interesting that depending on your perspective, right or wrong can kinda take on a new meaning. Interesting! Thanks for explaining that!

Hahahaha it's been a weird week alright :P The thought process was interesting but sad wasn't it. The contrast of where Nanami was in his mind vs. what was going on was soooo sad and beautiful!!!! I was hoping maybe he would make it out somehow but yeah, it wasn't looking good. But the fact that he went down swinging was so him!!! Ohhhh good call about the attack, thanks for clearing that up! Ohhhhhh that is so sweet about Haibara pointing to Yuji in response to "what am I doing this for"!!!! I love that. Mahito is crazy strong and does have a very child-like mindset. Good call though that he's completely owned/accepted who he is. Ohhhhh ok, that was the trump card! I thought maybe he took Nobara hostage. Someone mentioned that that it was his split off clone that met Nobara in current time. Yikes, poor Shibuya!!! OMG def not for people with claustrophobia huh!!!!

I love this episode it’s gutwrenching but so incredibly well done. The episode starting out with Yuji stuck alone with his thoughts is rough to watch but it’s great writing. I love how Yuji is thinking about everything he has said, experienced and others have said much of which relates to his living and dying as well as his resolve to help others & the hard decisions he faces. It makes sense that Sukuna talking about him being at fault for things & his grandfather’s words are circling in his head the most because Yuji has often been unable to help others and blames himself for what just happened as well as other things that he shouldn’t feel at fault for but can’t help but do so thanks to his situation with the monster inside of him. And we get Junpei’s words because he was the 1st person Yuji was unable to save/help and it’s when Yuji 1st had to come to terms with the fact that he can’t save everyone. Nanami asking him in the past if he was ready to face often terrible, horrific things because of being a sorcerer which is probably at the forefront of Yuji’s mind after what Sukuna just did. Megumi’s words of not regretting saving him as well as his own thoughts about his ordered execution are probably there because this is the 1st time Yuji is fully understanding the ramifications of what being a vessel of Sukuna means and why people have been so scared of him. And he’s probably worried about Megumi blaming himself for what happened because of Megumi being involved in the destruction & death. Thinking of his conversation with Nobara after killing Choso’s brothers & Choso’s own grief/anger at his brothers deaths because that battle against the brothers was when Yuji realized that he would sometimes have no choice but to kill those he fights against & the sadness that it would inevitably cause. And then there’s him remembering saying that he was not going to lose again which is hard to think about because losing to Choso inadvertently led to the death and destruction. I love how it’s a completely silent scene aside from his breathing/footsteps & the sound of the fluorescent lights. And I love how the sound of the lights becomes almost overpowering because it represents how Yuji’s thoughts/feelings are overpowering him. I love how well written this look into Yuji’s headspace is because not only does it make sense but also I don’t think it would have been as interesting in this specific story if it was not shown. I love how beautiful the beach home is with him completely healthy in Nanami’s imagination in comparison to the dark and harsh reality of Nanami just walking along in excruciating pain because of the terrible injury. I think the small sigh as he sees all the transfigured humans says it all about how truly exhausted he was. I think the circumstances of this death are meant to be shocking but I don’t think the death itself is meant to be surprising because of the tone with how he talked about what he wanted to do in his life as well as the tragically beautiful piano music. The voice acting was incredible with Nanami expressing all his pain, rage & sadness at what’s happening along with a lamentation of a life he could have had. And that inter spliced with imagery of him enjoying life and relaxing on a beach was absolutely amazing. Even though this is really sad what a way to give a character a great sendoff. I was in awe the entire fight especially because of the voice work but the music swelling more & more was destroying me. Also what a badass pushing forward & not giving up in spite of everything taking out what has to be like 50 to 100 of these monsters… Impressive as all hell. As soon as I saw Yuji rushing towards the scene I was hoping & begging the author not to have him arrive just to see his mentor die because hasn’t he had enough but it’s like what I have seen some authors say they do the worst things to characters they love & I guess the author Gege was feeling particularly cruel when writing this. Also I’m glad they do what feels best for the story they want to tell even if it’s brutal. I love that Haibara whether as a spirit or just in Nanami’s imagination because of how it integrates with the flashback arc as well as his desires to protect the younger generation & how he found happiness in helping others just like Haibara. I love the direction of his friend pointing at Yuji telling Nanami to look and something like you know you need to & want to say something to him as a mentor because he really fulfilled that role. A YouTube video analyzing his character talked about him as the bearer of the torch of this show & it makes sense because he carried on his deceased friend’s will/ideals and can now pass that happiness at helping others & his own desire to protect the younger generation as well as his willpower & determination on to Yuji. Also even if part of him wanted to talk about his sadness or anger a much bigger part of him wanted to leave Yuji with something that could give him hope one day even if Yuji doesn’t have time to think about that right now. The broken way he says his informal way of saying his name Nanamin is painful. The one solace & it’s a small one is that Mahito killed him and didn’t transform him. Also his arm still holding onto his weapon just lying there is horrible. I don’t think Mahito was planning on killing him just to mess with Yuji but once he realized Yuji was there Mahito definitely factored this into his mind games. Something I love that was pointed out to me is the concept of Mahito being a reflection of humanity can be seen in the different way he interacts with humans like with Nanami who talked to him quietly/calmly Mahito was quiet/calm but once Yuji starts yelling Mahito gets just as loud to match him. It’s sad that Yuji doesn’t have time to grieve for his mentor which I think the author wanted the audience to feel as well with how this was done. I still think Nanami’s performance with his screams but I love the performances of Yuji’s & Mahito’s VA’s when they are just screaming at each other as well as Yuji’s screams while running at him and I want to bring special attention to Mahito’s VA for being able to make all those noises that voice actor has an amazing range. It’s hard to watch Yuji being hesitant to kill transfigured humans because he had resolved to kill them if necessary but now is hesitant because of the trauma of what Sukuna just did. I love how dynamic & creative fights against Mahito are I am blown away by the author being able to come up with some of the stuff in this fight even if some of it was enhanced by the anime. I don’t think Sukuna is going to show up again in this arc so I think this gash on Yuji’s face is going to become a scar which is going to be a interesting design change if I’m right. I know it’s hard to think about this in the moment after what he just did but I find him talking about Yuji being the same as him really intriguing. Of course he says it’s all just nonsense but from a writing standpoint I think it’s very obvious that it’s not when he says Yuji can’t win until he accepts this fact. What I can come up with based on everything we know is that because he’s a curse born from the collective evil & fear of other humans in human hearts he wants to show everyone that all humans are capable of just as much evil as he is if provoked and his focus is on Yuji because of their encounter/interactions so far and what he knows about him with Yuji & Mahito goals/ambitions as well as personalities being diametrically opposed to each other. I love how the wall of flesh closing in on them making the room darker emphasizes the color of both of their cursed energy the animation this episode is pure art. I have seen fights in enclosed, cramped spaces done in other stories but not the same as the flesh wall closing in here. Yuji using the vibrations of his attack on the wall to make the saws Mahito created miss is a crazy strategy to come up with on the spot. Like you said Yuji has improved a lot but unfortunately so has Mahito which is why this is a close battle between the 2 of them. Also the both of them just walking after they break through the flesh wall with the blood going everywhere is amazing animation & generally badass. Everything to do with the elevator scenes is incredible… Like we have all seen really cool elevator fight scenes but all of Mahito’s crazy transformations just add another layer/dimension that other elevator fights just don’t have. Mahito coming into the elevator with the red glowing eyes is really scary & menacing. In fact while I have always found him scary and dangerous this is the most menacing Mahito has ever been at least for me which a good villain needs. I love how Yuji is constantly expecting Mahito’s tricks & is on his guard workout his adaptability in battle is impressive. Unfortunately the one trick he wasn’t prepared for was Mahito invading a regular person’s body to attack him when his guard was down. I wouldn’t want Yuji to change at all but his kindness is sadly easy to manipulate & Mahito knows it. That’s what makes Mahito much more dangerous not only is he reprehensibly evil but intelligent as well. Also the way he turned that poor man into a weapon is sick & disturbing. The fact that Mahito can create a copy of himself is crazy. I love Nobara’s laugh as she calls Mahito a coward. Her using a sign as a shield to get an attack in on him while avoiding his hands is awesome. I was also really worried for her after this episode but I knew all I could do was hope & believe in her & Yuji. Although I was less worried because I assumed both fights were taking place around the same time because of the clone thing which is confirmed by the time stamps thankfully. I agree with you this show is good at kicking you in the feels & then continuing to kick you while you’re down. One other thing I want to say is that it’s easy to completely hate Mahito & I certainly don’t like him as a person but I think he’s such a great villain and character because of how this story started with Yuji wanting to protect, save & give people proper deaths as well as how many characters in the story think about how to live with their ideals as well as talking about life being sacred in different ways which honestly makes him a perfect villain especially for a character like Yuji. As an anime only I think he’s going to be killed eventually for the reasons I just said I don’t think it will be for a long time especially knowing the story is ongoing. Also before I forget I love Yuji recalling his time with Nanami when controlling his anger & wanting to show that he’s a sorcerer because of his mentor talking about what being a sorcerer means. Awesome reaction & thoughts. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

Yeah, you make a lot of good points! And that youtube analysis video sounds interesting! This was quite an episode! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
