Hey everyone!  I'm back with Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, episode 23!  WOW you guys.........this was a LOT to take in!!!  Not-Geto just made a ton of Yujis, one of which is Fushiguro's sister. ...the Jujutsu Headquarters came up with quite a story as to what really happened....and basically everyone's getting executed?!?!  I was SO happy to see our boy Yuta come back, but dang, I didn't think it would be like this!  Poor Inumaki, btw!!  I'm embarrassed that I got confused at the end, but I think I can put together the gist of what's happening here.  What a season!!!!!!!  Can't wait for how on earth they're gonna resolve this next time!!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Hi Hime :) In the "Not Geto" speech, what he says is that he is trying to see the ultimate potential of occult energy, everything he undertook was for this purpose, his experiences like Choso and his brothers are one, as well as the two types of "non-sorcerers" he mentions. The two types being: - Those with techniques but who were not suited to being sorcerers. These Not Geto have modified their brains to become sorcerers. - Those to whom he made swallow a sealed cursed object. These he removed the seal, which means that the cursed object will take possession of them. So basically, when he uses his technique, you can imagine that what Not Geto did was release sorcerers and other curses from 1000 years ago, into our world, through humans that he selected. It's like Sukuna taking possession of Yuji's body, but without them being able to take over like Yuji is able to. For the five things that Jujutsu Headquarters orders, don't forget that Gojo has always been at odds with them, so they jumped at the opportunity to get rid of him and everyone who opposes them. But it's even worse when you remember what Utahime said, that there were two traitors, Mechamaru and someone higher up than her, so we can imagine that one of the headquartes sorcerers planned this to remove Gojo and now orders the removal of Not Geto to cover his tracks. For the final scene, Yuji is just hunting curses, despite everything that has happened, his goal is the same, to destroy all curses.

While I fully admit I do not have a complete grasp of what’s happening, as I’m also anime only, there are a few things I can try to put together based on my LIMITED understanding. Honestly, I’m assuming someone who’s familiar with the manga probably has a clearer idea of what’s going on (I think Spadeas is such a person, if I recall - haven’t read other people’s comments yet, I don’t want them influencing my thoughts.) So I guess a good way to explain the difference between original Geto and not-Geto is original Geto we can kind of compare to Magneto, while this current iteration is closer to… the Joker? He said he released the seals on a huge number of cursed objects that had been consumed, ten thousand malevolent Yujis- and he said that was a LOW estimation. So he’s responsible for the conditions of people like Fushiguro’s sister? And using Mahito’s technique to “awaken” people with cursed techniques, and altering their brains to match that of sorcerers, means they’ll seek out the people imbibing those cursed objects and seek to destroy them… Well, people have always had a penchant for destroying each other… I am assuming the conversation Yuta was having with Rika was telling his sister to go a little easier on attacking around an innocent. As for Yuki’s conversation, I can’t be positive if she was talking to Yuta or Yuji at the time - as far as the “kids” that were mentioned, I can only think they are referring to the students who got caught in this whole mess, both from Tokyo and Kyoto. Also, speaking of students, they never did say for sure about Nobarra’s fate, but then again, it’s far from promising. So there’s an anime channel in the Rooster Teeth Discord and I asked someone who’s read the manga what Yuta was referring to when he was talking about Iwakumi’s arms - basically the non-spoiler version I got was, “he is referring to an incident that has not yet occurred in the story.” So to make things even more of a mess, now we’re doing random time jumps. NO WONDER I FEEL CONFUSED! Regarding the Jujutsu notices there are two things that came to mind for me: the first, is that remember that Gojo has, for the longest time, had a very outspoken problem with the way the people in charge of jujutsu society handle their business. He likes to stir the pot, so it only makes sense that they would not be in a big hurry to free him - he’s too much of a wild card. The second is, you can’t cover up the Shibuya incident - it affects too many people - and we’re already seeing ramifications in the yen price and the overall society even less than 24 hours later. Since Japan seems to be the only country where cursed spirits readily respawn (maybe I’ll rethink visiting for a bit 😅), losing control of them would draw the ire of the world, particularly the US - and while there’s an alliance there, you know how we react to things we don’t understand over here. I’m still catching up on your MHA S6 reactions, but I have seen S6 all the way through on my own time and so there’s something that applies here - for Shibuya, they have to pin it on someone. Someone has to take the fall, because the public needs to have answers - it doesn’t matter how close or not it is to the truth. The populace’s peace of mind is the biggest concern. Not to mention revealing the existence of cursed spirits to the mass public is bound to make people at least very uneasy, especially in Tokyo. Now about the last scene… it seemed like Yuji was summoning curses. Normally you’d think that was Sukuna, but that was Yuji’s face, not Sukuna’s - so I can only guess as to what the purpose is for. The only thing that immediately comes to mind is the pact he made back in S1 to take over for thirty or so seconds. This was an awesome season, but at the same time, the editing was very hard to follow, as I’ve previously mentioned. Half the time I felt like I needed “An Idiot’s Guide to This Week’s Episode” to understand what’s going on. This is definitely a series that warrants revisiting on your own time because there’s just so many moving parts to keep track of. They did announce the next anime arc almost immediately after this episode aired, but I do hope whatever’s going on with MAPPA gets resolved and they treat their animators better - if this is what they churn out under duress, imagine what they’d be able to do with better working conditions. I saw that the author said during a recent panel that they expected this to be the last time visiting expos for the manga while it’s still being written alongside the anime production, so it sounds like they will be closing up the story soon. Quite the “incident,” isn’t it. You said. “I didn’t expect them to throw that at me.” You could’ve said that every week. Um… help… I used so much red thread on this series that I’ve tangled myself up in it so much I can’t get out of this comment… Extension. 👀

See notice how the hole kept getting bigger and bigger. Now this definitely wasn't the episode I thought it was going to be. I thought a huge action scene with Yuko was going to occur but no. The devastating aftermath is here. My understanding is that the next season will cover all the information here. It's going to be a new world from the previous jujitsu world we barely got to know. My guess is the orders are from higher-ups who are going to point the finger at Gojo and co to try and erase evidence or whatever. There's no hiding anymore. From these comments time jumps occurred and were all left in the dark so no worries there. Everything was confusing and just gloom and doom. IDK what's going on with Yuji but something like this may be having Sukuna lend a hand, at least in isolated areas to rid curses. Also YESSSSS!!!! My boy Yuta is here!!! I've been waiting so long! Okay I'm holding out hope that this is some kind of bluff with Yuji so things can turn around. But boy I find him a sight for sore eyes. I have yet to read it myself and idk if it contains spoilers but there's a databook or something that gives information on characters we know that we weren't able to get in the material. It might help fill up some gaps. What a season. Ended totally different than the first. It was great but something I hope to never relive. I will never forget the sorrow of this particular arc.

Leonie2003

Hey Melissa, we've finally reached the end of the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen. And I have to admit that it was a very good season. Even if I somehow didn't really like the last episode. First of all, the positive things. I didn't know that Yuta was coming back, but I watched the opening very very well and they added Yuta in the opening. And that's when I was really hyped for this episode. The scenes we got with Yuta were really very cool. I was happy to see him again. And he still has that sweet personality that he had in the movie. I was still very shocked that he wants to kill Yuji now. Now to the things I didn't like so much in this episode. I thought it was a bit stupid that we were given so much information at once without any real explanation. I also found it a bit unexpected that we were ripped away from the action so suddenly. And also that we actually only saw background images of Tokyo and heard people talking who we didn't know before. I had somehow prepared myself for the fact that we would see a final fight between Non-Geto and Yuji. And that's why I was a bit disappointed. Nevertheless, the second season was very good. It had very good fights, very good animation and good character moments. Nevertheless, the fights in this season were sometimes a bit too much for me because at some times I couldn't follow what was going on. And I had problems to understand the explanations of the main characters' powers. I would also have liked a bit more dialog between the characters sometimes, as the fights got a bit tiring. Also, the character deaths didn't really grab me this season, not because I didn't like the characters, but simply because the music and the whole presentation of the deaths didn't work for me. Let's take Jojo as an example. Every Jojo death makes me cry because the music is perfect, the animation is super good and I can empathize with the characters. However, I would give the second season Jjk a 9/10 because I looked forward to it every week and overall it's a very good season that I will definitely have to watch again sometime when the third season is about to start.

kamenriderhime

Hi Spadeas! :) Thank you so much for clarifying this! So he's basically made/released a ton of sorcerers and curses. And they don't have control like Yuji, sheesh! That's kinda what I was thinking too - like they've never cared for Gojo! OHHHH I forgot about the two traitors! Thanks again for clearing all this up, I think I'm understanding it more now!

kamenriderhime

I know!!!! That's such a cool detail that it kept getting bigger. Yeah I was surprised too that we didn't get a fight with Yuki! But I imagine everything they set in motion here will be the plot of the next season. Ok glad some stuff was supposed to be intentionally vague! It's gonna be a whole new world for sure, and I think you're right that the higher ups are using Gojo as a scapegoat since they didn't like him in the past anyway. I wonder if Sukuna would partner up with Yuji this once??? Also YUTA YAAAYYY!!!! Wasn't it amazing to finally see him?! I really hope you're right and that it's just a bluff! Oh no kidding about the data book! That's interesting! Oof, I hear you - this one's not a season to just throw on with some popcorn to unwind or anything lol, it was intense!

kamenriderhime

Hey Leonie!! :) OHHHH did they add him to the opening? I didn't even notice, wow! Good eye! It's so great to see him again, but so sad that he's going to be at odds with Yuji! It was a bit jarring to have all the exposition and no action, considering we were in the middle of a fight! Maybe we'll get to see the not-Geto and Yuji fight next time....but yeah, I think a lot of us were taken aback by where they left things, even if there is a lot to look forward to next time! I totally hear you!! There were so many amazing things about this season!! And I get it about the explanations, fights, etc. too. Honestly if I had one criticism of this show it'd be that it can be VERY hard to keep up with at times!! You're so right about death scenes and how they're done to perfection in Jojo!!! Evoking emotion with things like music, pacing, etc. is so important. I'm glad you liked it overall! I did too!!!

kamenriderhime

I'm glad I'm not the only one still trying to process it! I think that's a good comparison of Geto/not-Geto to Magneto/Joker! Right, so he's the one who put Fushiguro's sister into her current state! And now she and many many others will be "evil" Yujis, awesome...!! Ok that's what I figured with the line from Yuta to Rika, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. Were they brother and sister??? Why do I remember them being kind of a puppy love type couple? I must have really forgotten a lot haha, sorry. Ok thanks for clarifying about what Yuki was saying, I couldn't tell if she was talking about the kids who were there during the fight, or if she meant she brought them somewhere else. We still don't know about Nobara either! OMG I'm so happy you reached out about the arms thing (no pun intended hahaha) because I was like, ummm I guess I missed that during all the fight scenes??? Honestly there was so much going on and I miss things so much, it wouldn't surprise me! Oh yeah, that makes sense about Gojo being a thorn in the higher ups' sides, and also very true about Japan sort of having the "monopoly" on curses at the moment and this being way too big to cover up. Hope you're enjoying my MHA reactions btw!! Yeah, they had to pin the blame on someone I guess. This is definitely cause for mass panic. Ok I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it looked like Yuji was summoning curses!!!!! But yet he definitely wasn't Sukuna! I agree, this season was so great but you almost need a study guide/study group in order to understand what's going on each week haha. I hope that MAPPA starts treating their animators better as well! No kidding about the author wrapping up the story soon, wow! Hahahah yeah that quote could definitely be a weekly reoccurrence huh! LOL that red string tangles up fast doesn't it?! :P

Supermonaman

I'm really late to leaving my comment on the finale of this incredible season & I know people have clarified things you were confused about although I think you understood most of what happened in this episode so my comment might not add much but I still wanted to leave my own two cents. I'm glad that the comments are able to help you understand things more with this relatively complicated show. I think it’s so cool that they added in Yuta drawing his katana into the opening I immediately noticed & got so hype. I think it’s interesting to hear the differences in Noritoshi & Yuki’s mindsets & beliefs when it comes to how mankind should advance. She wants to get rid of cursed energy he wants to make cursed the best it can possibly be. Yuki thinks in her head that she needs to give Larue(who was one of Geto’s followers before the parasite took over his body & said he was going to remain neutral) time to prepare something it’s interesting that she is working with someone who would normally be a villain/antagonist. Basically before he died Yuki wanted to study him to try to figure out how to get other people to have no cursed energy like Toji & seemed to have given up when he died but for some reason she is going back to this plan assumedly because of something she figured out on her travels around the world and observations of things. It’s crazy to think about the possibility of humans being used as energy for Tengen because he would need to assimilate a new host more often because of the power it would take to continually allow everyone in Japan to be sorcerers which is what Yuki thinks is Noritoshi’s plan. It’s terrifying to think about nations going to war over this because of the interesting fact that there are more sorcerers born in Japan than other countries especially American because militarily America tends to overreact to things & does a lot of bad things because of its overreactions IMO. My personal theory as to why there are more sorcerers in Japan is because Japan is where sorcerers/cursed energy in this universe. It’s crazy that he has been trying to make cursed energy stronger in many different ways & has always failed despite how powerful he is it just shows how far-reaching & earth shattering his plan/desires are as well as how much power it will take to make his plan happen. The idea that he has decided to make things go out of everyone’s control including his own to make the future he wants possible that kind of chaos is terrifying. It sucks that because of how far Mahito was pushed it just made Noritoshi stronger. It shows how good he is at planning that even though he probably wasn’t counting on as much of a power up as Mahito got but still factored it in as a possibility if he was weaker when absorbed the Transfiguration on the entire country using Tengen’s as a conduit basically would have probably still worked but just been less effective but considering what Noritoshi is like he probably would have found a way to make it work/had backup plans. Who would have guessed that Megumi’s sister being cursed would be connected to/caused by what seems to be as of right now the main villain of this series it’s an amazing twist. Especially from a story standpoint because it means that his sister will be a possessed villain & the most interesting thing that could happen in my opinion is a brother having to fight his sister & would lead to great character stuff for Megumi even if it will be dark/sad because as an anime only I have no idea if there is any way to help her. The thought of how many dangerous sorcerers & cursed people like Yuji but without control is terrifying and a lot of these new sorcerers won’t mean to be dangerous but may end up that way because they have to defend themselves because of Noritoshi’s plans. I love the faith Yuki has in humanity unfortunately Noritoshi is the kind of villain who has so many plans he has plans for his plans. And I think my favorite kind of villain is one like him who is so cold, calculating with his plans & has contingencies it makes them much more menacing as villains. I love how useful Choso has immediately been since joining our side especially this episode revealing that his attack on Uraume was poisonous disabling their ice giving everyone the freedom to fight Noritoshi. Unfortunately this is when he shows us just how powerful Geto’s cursed spirit manipulation is by unleashing a unbelievable amount of curses. And curses in this show have always had disturbing but great designs but I think the curses we see here have the best designs we have seen so far. I love how everyone’s reactions & the music shows how grim this situation is as well as how momentous of a change this is to the JJK world. Also, Kusakaba just closing his eyes in the face of this terrible situation & all the stress is a mood for sure. It was such a cruel thing for Noritoshi to show off Gojo when he knew none of them would be able to get to him. You really feel the emotion of loss with Yuji’s voice acting. And now the world has been brought back to 1000 years ago in terms of the amount & power of sorcerers. Interesting fact the Heian period is the era in Japan from 794 to 1186 A.D. & ironically to me at least it means peace in Japanese which is the exact opposite of this situation. It’s intriguing at least for me that when Noritoshi basically says don’t disappoint me it’s hard to tell if he’s talking about Yuji or Sukuna it could be both honestly. Cutting away from this scene like a TV turning off was a dick move but I kind of love it for the shock value of not knowing what immediately happens next. It makes me wonder if we will get any flashbacks of the rest of this battle but it might not be necessary. I know some people who didn’t like how the show focused so much on the government & civilians I guess because we can figure out that these would be the type of reactions of the normal people after everything that just happened. I think the main thing is the crazy decision to reveal cursed spirits & all the destruction & death caused by the spirits Noritoshi unleashed thereby creating more curses because of negative emotions which is the unfortunate cycle of the JJK world. These are probably the most important thing here because of how momentous a change these things are causing for everyone especially the fact that an entire area of Japan most of the areas around Tokyo which is a crazy scale to think about. It’s interesting how they involve Tengen by extending his own barrier over this entire area which is the Tokyo Prefecture trying to contain as many curses as possible I assume. For me it’s super interesting to see the more mundane side of the supernatural world of JJK. Also there is a simple sort of horror to the reporter/cameraman dying, followed by relaxing classical music & the women watching not even realizing what they were seeing before being killed by a curse. The scene with the little girl & the curse is basically a horror movie and while I wouldn’t say I love it because I don’t like horror movies I think it’s a great scene because of the way it emphasizes the consistent theme for the curses of how unnatural/terrifying they are as a concept. This might be one of the scariest curses because of how it acts like an Anglerfish to lure in unsuspecting victims. And I feel bad for the girl that the only reason this thing almost got this girl is because she is a kind person who was worried about someone else. It was so hype to see Yuta come back here saving this girl. I love how we are immediately reminded about the great things about him seeing how kind & gentle he is with this scared & confused little girl. As well as his insane strength because of being related to a really strong ancient sorcerer & having Rika with him. I’m sure it will be explained eventually in the story but I’m confused about how Rika is still here because in the movie she passed on to the afterlife. The explanations I can come up with without the show giving us any information is that he’s talking to her even though she is not really there because it’s like a she’s still with me in spirit kind of thing or when she went to the other side she left all her power behind with Yuta but knowing this show it’s probably something I would never guess in a million years. I love the consideration for the girl by stopping her from having to see all blood once he realizes she can see curses. And then we get to the moment when you are excited about Yuta until the rug is pulled out from under us with the reveals that he is currently working for the Jujutsu society higher ups & wants to kill Yuji because of the awful thing that happened Toge. And there is a mistranslation here because Toge only lost one arm from being too close to Sukuna’s big attack. I really want to hope that Yuta is bluffing/doing a double agent thing but I don’t think so and that’s because based on his reaction to someone hurting his friends in the movie I think it makes sense for him to react this way to Yuji even if it is not completely logical because he is understandably emotional right now and to be honest I wouldn’t be surprised if the higher ups are not being completely truthful about everything with him. What I do actually think & hope is going to happen is that during the inevitable fight that he & Yuji get to talking and they come to understands each other & in the process Yuta is convinced to join the side of sorcerers who I think are against the higher ups only because they want to help people & the higher ups are preventing that with their BS. And as people have been saying in the comments the orders the higher ups have put into place are mostly not true and meant only to benefit as the best way to make sure Gojo is never released because of how much trouble he’s always caused them wanting to change sorcerer society from the ground up basically which they don’t want just because they want to keep all their power so have made up some convenient lies for that purpose. And even if they had the right information which they might not they don’t care. And what works out even better for them is that Gojo can’t defend himself from the flimsy “evidence” of “Geto” being alive to justify their insanity & they can easily discredit the people who know the truth because most of them are kids or people who sorcerer society doesn’t really trust like Yuki. Although it sounds like Yuki is planning on challenging this sort of stuff soon which makes me wonder who she was talking about when she asked what are you going to do I assumed Yuta but maybe she was wondering what the higher ups next move was going to be. Also interesting how she is a neutral party in all of this. One thing I wanted to say is the higher ups plan doesn’t even make since because of how dangerous the world has become because while they don’t care about civilians not really even if they would say otherwise they should care about themselves and even though Gojo hates then he would protect then in my opinion they are just being extremely shortsighted because of how power-hungry they are. I have to say I have seen some crazy paradigm shifts such complete changes to a world/story before but I have to say that what happened in this episode is up there as one of the craziest of those types of extreme changes & I love it but it scares me to think about what is to come in the story for the characters with we love. I think it’s both sad & cool that Yuji now has permanent scars after this arc. First time watching this episode I was confused about what the clap was about but it does make sense that he was calling all the curses to him after the way Yuji talked about his role being killing curses. I really appreciate how this show is willing to slow down & linger on scenes at times. Also the detail of the hole becoming bigger is a blackout getting worse it’s scary & another good example of showing us the destruction. It’s crazy to think about what has happened in such a short time. This was an awesome season & I really can’t wait for the show to come back. Awesome reaction & thoughts & keep up the great work. :-) <3

Supermonaman

This is something I thought about after writing that first comment. We still don’t know the status/well-being of characters like Maki & Nobara. We know Yuji is okay physically, mentally who knows & I think we can assume Megumi is okay having last seen him with the principal & Shoko but possibly on the run and most other characters who are still alive are most likely in varying states of what could be called “okay”. I think the not knowing is what makes me more worried about the characters. Also I would love to know what you think of the theories/ideas of where the story might go & I know it’s been a while but I would be interested in hearing about any theories/ideas you have about where the story might go even if you think those ideas are crazy. The more I think about this season the more I realize how much I love this show. Your reactions to the season were really fun & enjoyable. I’m looking forward to where the story goes next although I am slightly worried about the adaption because of all the bad stuff going on with Mappa but hopefully it will be fine. And I can’t wait to see your journey with this story continue as well. Once again I love the content you create & keep up the great work. :-) <3

Hey! I know it's taken me forever! I just wanted to let you know that I read through your comments! I'm super behind so I'll probably be making my responses a bit shorter just so that I can finally sit down and read through them but I wanted to thank you for your insights and for clarifying some things for me! There was so much going on here and I'm grateful for the comments that can help me sort through what was happening! The Yuta hype was so real lol, also you made a good point that there are still characters we didn't really get any news about. What a season!!! Thank you again for all your kindness and patience! ^_^
