Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to episode 7 of Frieren!  Oh dang, lots going on here, with getting to meet some modern day demons, and learning of how everyone else sees Flamme (as a legend, basically, or like a fairy tale).  You just knew that the fairy tale comment was gonna lead into some tear-inducing friendship stuff for Frieren's original crew, dang!!!  And sheesh, I kinda wanna expect a lot from these demons but....they're not really giving me anything to work with!  Seems like they really are just a bunch of monsters!  And now Frieren's captured?!  Time to bring this girl her books....!!!!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Hey Melissa, I finally managed to catch up on your Frieren Reactions. This episode was really great. From that point on, I was really invested in Frieren's story. Before that, I wasn't quite sure whether I liked the anime or not. But from this arc onwards, I was sure that this anime was really very good. The beginning of the episode was really really cute. that Himmel put up all the statues so that Frieren would remember her friend group and not forget them. Such sweet behavior from him. Also, the short conversations between Stark and Fern are always a highlight for me in every episode because they are so sugary sweet together. I think it's really great that the anime explains a new concept of demons, because in almost every anime where demons appear, they are usually misunderstood creatures that can be friendly or you can sympathize with, like in Demon Slayer. But in Frieren, demons are really evil beings who only want to eat people. And to achieve this, they use devious strategies to gain the trust of humans so that they can kill them more easily. The little background story you saw with the little demon that killed humans in the end even though the humans were friendly towards him was really good storytelling and you got a lot of worldbuilding. From the moment I knew that the leader of the three demons in the town was called Lügner, I knew for a fact that the guy was playing a false game with our characters. Because, as many have already explained in the comments here, Lügner is called Liar in English. And since I'm a native German speaker, I can translate what it means very well. I also had my doubts at the beginning whether the three of them were really playing a false game or whether they wanted to help the humans after all. But because of the naming of the three demons and also the backstory we saw beforehand, I was very sure that this wasn't going to end well.

First things first, I’m not sure using Frieren’s “lifestyle” is the best idea…. Are you a late riser or something? Also, I have to wonder how much of Fern’s “we must praise her” is sarcastic. 😆 There’s a bit of an interesting juxtaposition with Frieren talking about Flamme, who lived 1000 years ago, and her comment that she’s the only one who remembers what she looked like - and Himmel stopping to have all these statues made so Frieren will remember them. Stark is getting a first hand look at what Fern’s had to put up with for eight years - two minutes into town and she gets dragged off to the dungeon. Frieren’s talk about being able to discern a real grimoire of Flamme’s from all the fakes, is not unlike how she reads demons. Lügner comments when seeing her that just because she is a passive person does not mean she doesn’t have emotion. Which is interesting, because it’s pretty clear as we go on that Frieren is correct: demons aren’t bound to the same concepts as humans - they just use them to their advantage. The demon child killing the chief just to replace the daughter she ate - she had no qualms about any “morality” tied to it. I think a similar concept was brought up with when we were discussing Demon Slayer (hey! Pun!) last year. Also, don’t forget she has tons more experience with demons than anyone living and her whole quest with Himmel was to defeat the Demon King. She’s going yo have feelings about them. Anyway, Frieren’s in jail, about to get attacked, and she’s probably just 🥱 - when is breakfast around here again?

Hey Leonie!!! Yay! I know, this is a big hook for Frieren's story right? Omg I love the statues!!! Fern and Stark are very sweet together aren't they. Yeah I think you're right, this series does demons very differently. The flashback story was so good and so telling. Ohhhh that makes sense that you would be able to guess what he was like by his name right away! (I really need to learn German!!!) They still play it very well in the episode, keeping you wondering a little bit if they really have bad intentions or not, but yeah, the names are big giveaways!!!!

Hahahaha I'm really not but I could definitely see myself getting used to sleeping in :P I love the juxtaposition with Frieren and Flamme. Also Stark is getting a good picture of the whole situation here haha. That's such a good point about the way that Frieren can decipher fake individuals too. Yeah the flashback scene was very telling. Haha Demon Slayer!!! :P I got there eventually. So true, she's got the experience to back this up. Hahha Frieren is so unfazed about being in jail!!!!
