Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to episode 9 of Frieren!  Oh wow!!!  I absolutely loved getting to see Fern and Stark put to work all they'd learned from their masters!  Such a great lesson in learning to play to your strengths, the importance of the bond between trainer and trainee, etc.!  I'm so proud of them both!  And something tells me Frieren doesn't need to worry too much during her battle too!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

It seems I actually get results after I tell you my problems, lol - finally got WiFi sort of restored. Anyway… I think probably the reason no one really picks up immediately on Frieren and who she is, is because she doesn’t draw attention to it. She’s a lot like a celebrity, in some sense of the word - she is super well known and popular, but just wants to have some degree of normalcy without getting hounded by the public all the time. I don’t think Aura was taunting Frieren when she asked about Himmel, it was more like, “he’s long gone, why do you still care about stuff like this?” Remember, demons have no real emotional conception. It’s actually fairly similar to another show I’m watching, although that one uses the topic in. Completely different kind of context. Speaking of avoiding tropes, like I mentioned before, a lot of shows would use the circumstantial evidence of the guard’s death to turn this into a “fugitive” type arc, but its characters are actually smart enough to avoid misunderstandings such as that. “Oh yeah, the demons did it. That adds up.” Crisis averted. Stark was giving a heroic speech and everything right up until the point he said he was going to beg Frieren to come back. And you got so close, too. I think for five seconds, Fern actually thought better of him. XD Speaking of Fern, she’s definitely picked up some mannerisms from Frieren. “Oh hey, there’s a blood weapon impaling my shoulder. That might be a bit irritating.” Both Stark and Feen for the most part are fighting defensively, kind of the way they were taught, but it’s also part of their training to size up how to best take down their opponents. Because you know… these demons are not nearly as scary as inner demons. You just have to figure that out ahead of time. As for Frieren’s chances… well, that’s for the next episode. :)

For those of us who are Americans, we love a good underdog story and this episode delivers in spades...nothing I love more than arrogant villains underestimate our heroes and wind up getting destroyed by their own hubris. I was legit scared for Fern and Stark but also so proud of how they fought back and won....it was so emotionally satisfying! Fern is so stoic, she didn't even yelp in pain, just grimaced a little when Lügner impaled her shoulder with his blood magic. Stark winning by yeah, imma get hit, but so are you and harder and more critically--I'll be getting up from this, you won't. DAMN. COURAGE!!

Heck yes!! And I was so happy for Fern and Stark too. Very satisfying!!! Oof, the impaling was rough, but yeah, she didn't even flinch. It was soooo epic right!!! Stark just wouldn't stay down!!! Loved this ep!

Oh good, glad to hear that about your wifi! That's true, she kinda lays low. She may not have meant to taunt Frieren with the Himmel comment, but I still took offense haha. I know, I love that we didn't do the misunderstanding thing!! Hahahahaha I know, the way that built up that speech from Stark!! :P Omg for real, Fern's got Frieren's stoic aspect down to a science! Good call about these demons being nothing compared to inner demons. Next ep was lit!!!
