Chapter 6
Taylor told her father everything. Her powers, how she spent the weeks after recovering on her project, and how she made Mew. Of course, there were details she omitted, things she had to hide for both their sakes, but by the end of it all, her father would have a clear enough picture of how things led up to this. She fucked up and now she was here to face the consequence of her actions.
She stood there, her head bowed and her knees shaking, as she waited for the scolding and shouting. Instead, she felt father's arms wrapping around. As he pulled her in, hugging her tightly, she broke down crying. Tears flowed freely as she cried in her fathers arms.
She came here to protect her father, but it looked like she was the one that needed it. Sniffling and burying her face against his shoulder, she cried, "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry…"
She should have told him when she had the chance, but she didn't. Not even when Mew told her that she listened. Now, both of them had to live with the consequences of her actions as she all but unmasked herself with her carelessness.
Only her father's suiting words and Mew's comforting presence stopped her from doing anything stupid. "It's alright Taylor, you have nothing apologies for," Her father reassured him as Mew floated over and held her hands, "Everything's going to be alright."
She nodded as she snuggled up against her father. Everything was going to be alright, but she had to make things right. She needed to make it up to her father. Fighting through her tears, she choked out, "H-hey Dad, I think I should join the Ward." She still had lingering doubts, but this wasn't for her, but for her father. She just wanted him safe.
"Alright Taylor," He replied as he stroked her hair, "We'll get through this, together."
"If you need a phone, you can use mine," Glory Girl offered with a smile as she held up her phone with the PRT's number ready for them to call, "I'm sure they wouldn't mind someone else using my number especially when I'm helping a friend."
"Thank you Glory Girl," Her father thanked the heroine as he called. It was a brief call, barely a minute all said and told, but one that had her father smiling. She felt hope blossom in her chest as her father told her, "They're sending heroes to help us get to the Rig. We just need to wait."
With the PRT on the way, they were given space to themselves. Glory Girl excused herself as she stood guard over the entrance, while the rest steered clear of them. She noticed how the man that her father hastily made their exit, but she didn't raise any fuss about it. She could understand the fear given Mew's blatant display of power
As they waited, Mew snuggled up to her before offering her some bite sized chocolate in gold foil. While she was no stranger to sweets, she wasn't familiar with the brand. It looked vaguely european. Holding up the sweet in his tiny paws, he said, "You look like you need this more than I do."
She stared at the sweet before reluctantly accepting. Unwrapping it, she popped the treat in her mouth and was immediately assaulted by the intense flavors. It was sweet, but so overwhelming so, as well as complex, with a bitterness that she was quickly finding herself fond of.
"This is amazing," She mumbled as she chewed on the decadent treat, "W-where did you even get that?" Glancing over to the treat, she held back, waiting for his explanation first.
Smiling mischievously, her partner replied, "Would you believe me if I told you I stole this from a villain?" Despite her doubts, something told her he wasn't lying. Maybe he stole it from some Nazi? They were the ones that imported a lot of European stuff to the city.
"You know stealing is bad," She pointed out. He might have stolen from a villain, but she didn't want to stoop to their lows. She wanted to be a proper heroine.
"Perhaps," Mew nodded before slipping out of her grasp and clutching the floating jar close, "But this is my rightful loot! Mine I say!" Climbing atop the jar, he pulled one out before nibbling on it like some adorable chipmunk while glaring back at him.
His adorable tantrum and his attempt to look intimidating had her laughing. Mew never seemed to fail in cheering her up. Smiling, her father noted, "He's quite the lively little guy."
She shook her head as Mew tumbled around while Glory Girl took pictures of him. "He can be a handful," She whispered as a soft smile graced her lips. For all his mischiefs, Mew was still quite the adorable little scamp and he knows it. Winking at them, the little trouble made a pile from his loot on one of the chairs and started gorging himself.
"And a charming little fellow at that," His father laughed as Mew floated back to them.
After offering her father some of his candy, Mew introduced himself, extending his little paw and being polite for once, "The name's Mew. Glad to meet ya or well, this isn't the first time cause I was hiding in your house forma bit, but yeah."
"I'm glad to meet you as well," His father replied as he took the offered hand and gently shook it. Turning to her, he noted, "You know, if you were afraid of telling me about Mew, you shouldn't have." As she gave her father questioning looks, he grinned back, "I always wanted to be a grandpa you know?"
Turning beet red, she sputtered, "D-dad!" He wasn't her child right? As far as she could remember, she didn't use any of her DNA. He was also here because of Arceus so that shouldn't be the case.
Even Mew was horrified as he choked on his chocolates. Clearing his throat, he crossed his arms in front of him as he shouted, "Oh Arceus no! Just no!"
"What?" His father replied, chuckling; Probably from the look on their faces. "She made you didn't she?" He pointed out.
"Well, yes, but we're not like that!" Mew argued. Gesturing at her, he corrected him, "The bonds between us Pokemon and Trainers can be close, but we're not that close! I'm her partner, not her child." Taylor nodded as well, not wanting to think about this any further.
Snorting, her father chuckled, "A shame then cause I always wanted to spoil my grandkids." Rubbing his chin, he mused out loud, "I'd probably buy you another jar…"
There was a pause as Taylor saw the gears turning inside Mew's head. "Mew no." Mew can't be that shameless right?
Mew gave her one look before he caved in, "... Should I call you grandpa or granddad?"
"Mew, no!" She shrieked out as she jumped out of her father's grasp and tried catching her partner. However, he would prove too elusive, slipping out of her grasp at the last second. Try as she might, she couldn't catch her. Her attempts only left red faced and huffing as Mew gave her a cheeky smirk before floating over to her father.
"Now, now, Taylor, don't be too harsh on the little lad. You were just as bad when you were this younger," Her father teased as he gave little hellion a pat on the head as he answered. Winking at her partner, he told him, "And just call me Danny."
Covering her face, she groaned out, "Dad!" Of all the time he had to tease her, it had to be in front of Glory Girl. Seeing the phone camera pointed at them, Taylor knew she could never show her face to her hero ever again.
"My life's over," She moaned out in despair. Who knew that it wasn't her unmasking that would ruin her life, but rather the teasing of her partner.
"Don't worry about it mom," Mew teased as she glared at him. Turning to Glory Girl, he asked, "I'm sure Glory Girl wouldn't share it over to Danny, right~?"
"I'll burn a copy once I get back home," Glory Girl answered, earning her a high five from the tiny terror.
"I hate you all so much right now," Taylor muttered as she glared at the trio. The three held their gaze before all of them started laughing.
Pulling her close, her father ruffled her hair. "I'm glad you still haven't lost your smile, my little owl," He whispered as he kissed her on the forehead. Despite everything that had happened, everything was looking up for her. She had her father, a partner and a new friend. She just hoped that things stayed that way.

It wouldn't take long for the PRT to arrive and cordon off the building. Armed personnel with full-on riot gear and foam launchers stood in attention as they milled about and guarded the building. It felt a bit much, but it certainly helped ease her worries. It'd take a whole team of capes just to break through all of them.
Sitting by her father's side, she waited anxiously for their transport. The wait was nerve wracking. Thankfully, they didn't have to wait long as one of the troopers opened the door and in came one of her childhood heroines.
Clad in stylized army fatigues and wearing her trademark stars and stripes scarf and sash, Miss Militia strode forward confidently. Shifting on her seat, Taylor shrunk back as the dusky skinned heroine approached them. She would eye Mew for a moment, before she greeted them, "Taylor Hebert?"
"Y-yes," Taylor replied, fixing her mask as she sat a bit straighter on her seat.
"You're transport waiting outside," She replied as she gestured at the transport truck parked just outside. She had watched the news enough times to know what the armored vehicle was for.
Extending a hand to her, Miss Militia smiled, "Ready to go?" Despite her scary appearance, she was quite soft spoken, a sharp contrast to her military aesthetic.
Nodding, she reached out, before following the Heroine. She had some apprehension, but with Glory Girl climbing aboard and with her father and partner by her side, she felt at ease. All she could do now was hope as they left for the Rig.
