I got a friend to start watching TNG and I sent him this article to make sure he didn't miss these specific episodes. Plus some of my favorites not on the list also.

Darmok. Always Darmok and not just bc the meme. This ep is Picard at his best. Unknown problem, takes brains to solve, makes a connection, brings abo mutual understanding. Even though some of the Gilgamesh quotes are not in Gilgamesh at all, and they ignore half the epic, still makes me giddy. Redemption 1 & 2. I love Worf, love Klingon lore, and the best episodes also have Picard in them. They establish a bond so strong that the First Contact face off between the two means something. “You want to blow the ship up and run away. You coward.” “If you were any other man I would kill you where you stand.” . . Cue Picard tempter tantrum, the only Moby Dick quote I know. Apology and forgiveness. “In fact, you are the bravest man I have ever known.” Cue the Jerry Goldsmith 1st Contact theme and the tears in my eyes.
