Wild question here…given that most of this is in grayscale, how do you track your color palette for the characters so that it doesn’t get confusing? For instance since the skin tones of both characters are similar I’d imagine that gets challenging. Sorry super random lol.

So, on the first page, I eyeballed their original colors and picked similar greys/whites to match, without it getting washed out, and then I just eyedrop that first page to keep it accurate. I would’ve used a gradient map to color pic from, but I feel that didn’t get the actual monochromatic look I was wanting. When it comes to shading, I use a lot of multiple layers and dumb rules like. Ezra’s “blush” in greyscale is just his base grey set to 50% on a multiply layer. I use the original blue-grey from the base of Ezra’s horns to highlight their hair/skin/etc.
