I'll start posting up the character animations I have so far for the Akumi Wars game. Funny thing is, with each character I do, I learn something new and get better. Then I want to go back and fix all the other characters. This can lead to an infinite loop of never finishing but I'm pretty good at not getting stuck in that loop anymore.

The point of progress/evolution is to take your new knowledge and apply it to the next thing and the next. Not to go backwards and do touch ups.

Onwards and Upwards!

Cool! Is all of the animation done in spine? Even the graphic effects? That's pretty great! Only thing I'd suggest is maybe she had her stress closed when she is defeated?

Perversity

Tower defense? How will that work, the people you have stand in the way of waves of enemies? Or will it be traditional where as the enemies get close each char / tower does unique attacks on them, or some combination of the 2?

miltoniusarts

That latter. Towers on opposite ends of the battlefield and unique characters summoned on each end who walk towards the enemies tower.

miltoniusarts

Easily doable but I kind of like that she still looks conscious. Akumi cannot die! 😁

Greg

Of course! But maybe she takes a nap?

Perversity

Ahhh cool cool I like it, one thing that you could do is have a tower that pops out low level, low HP minions that add a swarm effect so your hero's have a better chance of making it. Or your hero's could distract the towers with their greater HP while the minions slip through unmolested.

miltoniusarts

Yeah I'd like the game to simulate a more simplified moba game with maybe constantly spawning lesser minions. But we'll see how feasible that is as the game engine is developed further.

Deathknight134

Everyone has to close their eyes at some times right? Those best times are when they fall.

Perversity

Understand completely man, hope it works out alright and you can get all the features you want and need in it.

miltoniusarts

I think it will. There's no urgency or rush for this one. I just want to make it fun and awesome.

Perversity

I think it will be pretty epic, I've seen all the stuff you've been putting out for it and it all looks pretty solid so far. Animations are smooth, not over done, and look great. Plus it's not an overly complex concept for the programmer so it should be pretty simple to write up. ))) Is there going to be story elements in between missions / maps? Something to go over WHY the fight is taking place, what is unique or important about the location for the fight. Maybe put some tasks up with a timer, like clear all AA towers so a rescue flight can get a group of civvies off world, or rescue a VIP, or even bombers to run in and destroy an area that has to many ground based defenses for the troops to get through?

miltoniusarts

Thank you! 😁 All of that will be possible I'm sure but right now we're just taking it one step at a time. Adam is still programming the game engine and I got a lot of art an animations to make. Once a demo of the base game mechanics is established, we can start thinking about what we can put into those mechanics. Game development can be overwhelming if you try to do too much too early. Especially when there's only two people working in it. But I have a good feeling about this game.

Perversity

Heh it's all good man, I just have this weird brain that sits and spawns ideas, about things. Pretty much anything and everything. So just by talking with you and looking at the stuff my brains like ooo good idea, ooo cool idea, and so I share so you can see things and maybe incorporate them into the game. I know how it is taking on a huge project without a bunch of people working on the game, and it makes things go super slow especially when you have no experience in the Dev field, or learning parts of what is needed. )))) So I don't want people to get over whelmed on what they create, just things to think about. My project was WAY to big for my first project, and I was a freaking idiot to go full bore with the game I wanted to create first, I should have started with something smaller... )))

miltoniusarts

Yep I've made that mistake doing too much for my first game, Oversoul. I've learned my lesson though. This next game will be much simpler and more fun. I'm developing it with my prior boss who is owner of Artix Entertainment. So I've got a good business partner who can guide me through the process. It'll take some time but the results will be worth it!

Perversity

*Bangs head on the wall* Damn mouse rolled off my Lazyboy arm, and closed the window when I was writing up the reply. UGH.... So I knew I had missed a reply somewhere, and I finally found it. I've been a little over worked, and under slept lately, so I've been missing a few things. LOL Also your previous game Oversoul, makes my brain start screaming LEGEND of the OVERFIEND.... Which is probably just a result of way to much sugar in my system, and a little exhaustion from physical labor and stuff. It's awesome to know that you have such a solid mentor, and co-dev. I've played some of his older games and enjoyed them. Plus that combined with your art = insta win in my book. "Loving the new images you've been posting FYI." As Confucius says. Things that are worthwhile, are worth taking a while to complete. )))

miltoniusarts

Thanks man! And that makes sense, I grew up watching Legend of the Overfiend way before I was age appropriate. 😂 But yeah just had a talk with Adam of Artix yesterday. Things are on track, this game will be given the care it deserves.

Perversity

Very nice to hear man, and yeah... I think I watched Legend of the Overfiend around age 15 or so.... ))) Which is funny because almost all the kids that watch anime now adays seem to not know of it. Glad to hear that you got some good news from Adam. Always good stuff. OH random funny thing, I was browsing the stuff on the Daz website. (I can't draw, no artistic talent, so I have to get people to make stuff for me. But I usually use Daz to make my art assets.) But they have a vendor on there that has models that are in the same vein as yours. Long limbed, lanky. cute in a totally non-realistic sort of way.

miltoniusarts

Interesting about the artist with a similar style to me. Do you have a link? I like studing artists with exaggerated styles to see what I can learn.

Perversity

I'm looking for the link to the shop. But it isn't a normal artist like you. The person created some 3d models and put them up on the Daz site, so people could make 3d renders of models with similar builds to yours. (There not 100% the same, but close IMPO at least.)

<a href="https://www.daz3d.com/lady-littlefox" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.daz3d.com/lady-littlefox</a> Is the artist <a href="https://www.daz3d.com/star-2-0-stellar-bundle" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.daz3d.com/star-2-0-stellar-bundle</a> Is the product that she makes that I was talking about.

miltoniusarts

I can see the similarities you talked about. Yeah I like drawing the long, slender body types now. It's huge divergence from my older style of short, curvy gals.

Perversity

That's good, I was kind of worried I was just a Pleb not knowing of that which he spoke. :P There is a place for short curvy girls. (At my feet) A place for tall skinny girls (Kneeling at my side), and short petite girls.... (In my bed. Giggity.)
