I feel like the shower scene, while it worked in a context , the very first image was not necessary and it was just pure fan service I feel. Death note does that on rare occasions and it is still weird , considering how the show avoids that particular anime trope 9 times out of 10. Also I feel like Near has similar brilliance to L , but hes a lot more rash and willing to gamble without back up plans , unlike L . Melllo is just more extreme , antagonistic version of that lol. The episode itself was very beautifully animated and especially the imagery was very striking . Also my obligatory fuck Light commment . I gotta say the way hes written now, i just feel completely detached . I think L and Light dynamic gave some sort of illusion to his humanity and engaged me on a character level . But now , i feel like im barely engaged with him as a character and im just more interested in characers around him

Ahh yeah, the oogly profile body pan-up? I feel like we've maybe been here with Misa in the past once or twice, but it makes more sense in her context, I guess. But yeah, I feel like you could've just started at the curtain. That's an interesting take on Near, I can see it. Especially since as he still seems younger than L was. While he seems the more-stable of the two, he does come across more rash than L ever was. I also get a slightly different flavor re: his intellect? Like L was the best detective in the world, but he'd always put that out there in a thoughtful, matter-of-fact kind of way, but somehow I feel like Near has a bit more.. hubris? And then yeah.. there's Mello haha. Thought the animation was great, too! That opening Kira montage stood out to me a lot. And then across the episode a lot of interesting shadows and more surreal "mind-fortress" stuff. And god, that Sakura TV guy always puts me on edge with how kinetic they make his moments lol. And what would a Death Note chat be without an obligatory Fuck-Light comment?! lol. I can definitely feel ya here, though. While he occasionally demonstrates human quirks, I'm past the point where I believe any of them. Feels like he's waaaaaaay too far gone to be grey anymore. Which doesn't altogether upset me, but likewise, my investments are in everyone around him now.
