Great reaction John. The one thing the writers love to do is take common fan theories and twists them. For example in season 1 Fitz asked Simmons to say she wasn’t hydra so fans started to say that Simmons was a undercover hydra agent in season one and during the summer break of season 1 so in season two a lot of fans believed she was actually hydra in that reveal in 2x3 then it was actually a twist within a twist when she wasn’t hydra. The map theory was very prominent when Garrett started writing in season 1 it so the writers set up this twists so that we all believed it was a map like skye then the reveal is even more shocking

A few notes: 1) Notice the clothes that Grant is wearing when he first walks into the bar. Then what Bakshi is wearing when he is captured. And finally what Ward is wearing in final scene. Part of his escape plan clearly involved switching clothes with Bakshi. 2) It sometimes helps to realize that SHIELD is like a grand game of 3D chess. While there are early moves and payoff, really they are setting up the board for the "endgame". The question is always what pieces really matter and which ones are fakes. 3) Finally, (and I know many comments have suggested this already), SHIELD is fantastic about both foreshadowing in a clever way and at the same time never forgetting it's own history.

Thanks, man! Glad you enjoyed!! :) That's pretty awesome re: the writing staff, though. Love a good twist-within-a-twist! Very smart to do that, and it seems like one of the more beneficial aspects of how thin the line is now between creatives and their audience. Thought the reveal with the glyphs and the "map" was very cool as well. I dunno if I was ever that suspect of Simmons being a true Hydra agent (although, the horrible lying aspect would be a good mislead there). This is gonna have me analyzing every plot thread now for potential flips and turns 😝

2021-07-15 04:55:33 Oh snap!! To #1, that's a great catch! In all the action, I didn't take time to realize, but that makes a lot of sense. Gonna have to go back and look at the outfits now haha. Good to know re: (#2) the overall structure of the show/seasons. The further it goes & the more serialized it all is, the more it feels like parts of a much bigger story rather than contained episodes. Definitely gonna be keeping my eyes that-much-more peeled for interesting or suspect details. #3. I think this is what I've begun to appreciate most about this journey. The more they reference prior moments, arcs, devices; the way those things factored in before and then pop up again with new purpose - really makes the world of the show feel big and alive. Very much appreciate the writers' approach to this show.

The best part about this episode is Ward. His swagger is insane and I just fell in love with his devious ways 😂
