Happy Sunday, Patron-O-Jects!!

We soldier on in the time of Covid-Quarantine with a quadruple-feature Q&A...  TIME CODES are as follows:

0:27 (Steve Rivera) - Who is sexier John or Greg?   I'm kinda new so apologies if this has been asked before LOL

3:01 (David Gandy) - Well, a lot happens in a week...plus you answered this in a YT post.  Alternate question: What are your favorite opening title sequences? How do you think opening title sequences effect the films as a whole?

12:05 (Toasted Toad) - If there is a classic original (I don’t mean something like Casablanca, I mean things like Raiders, Pirates of the Caribbean, Matrix), do you think that having rubbish cash-in follow ups can sour your enjoyment of the first film? Or do you think it becomes even better in your eyes as you see how easy it is to make crud from the same material?

19:28 (Eric Horstman) - Always late with these, my bad. What’s your take on Actors/Musicians involved in nasty ass cults that call themselves “religion” (for the tax breaks) like Scientology (horrible, horrible people!), and still continue to support them in their careers? Ex. John Revolting, Kirstie Alley, Elizabeth Moss and number one chair-jumping freak Tom Cruise. Not meaning to offend (I usually do lol) sorry not sorry and for any Scientologist get a brain and stop worshipping a fantasy writer and an “alien” called Xenu and making people mortgage their house to reach the freakin top levels of this stupid ass dictatorship and stop calling people who leave the “church” Suppressive Persons and make their families disown them and support rapists and abusers you fuckwads! I have no filter lol

I love you both, but I'm sorry John, I crush on Greg. Its something about crude humor and mean sarcasm that gets me every time, along with the darker hair and skin. Don't worry, I know Greg loves his girlfriend, haha. Plus, like Greg I grew up in the church, and John reminds me of Jesus. I cant crush on Jesus, lmao.

ENTER THE VOID — Gaspar Noe!!! Great title sequence, and the only one I remember, really. On TV, HBO’s THE OUTSIDER had a brief but effective title shot of foamy blue water slowly coalescing as it pours over the title, blocking the view of what just happened in the cold open, and finally the title appears. Very nice.

Eric Horstman—I try to forget Scientology when I watch Elisabeth Moss in stuff, but it definitely affects how much I buy into her performance. I feel you!

Morning guys, Thanks for the reply. I was looking over the title sequences Saul Bass did for Hitchcock in the late 50s and early 60s, (Vertigo, North By North West, and Psycho), after hearing about The Invisible Man title sequence and then thought of Catch Me If You Can, Enter The Void, the Bond films, Deadpool, Taxi Driver, and remember Touch of Evil. And though I'd see what you guys had to say. With the right music it can really be effective in setting the audience member up for the following film. I always like when a good sequence starts a movie, I'm like, "Good, take me to where I need to be to connect and immerse myself in the film."

That last question is an interesting one and one I’ve thought about before without coming to a conclusion. Can I now watch Smallville, with all its innocence, knowing now what I do about Allison Mack? Possibly I could find a way around it knowing that it would all have been before her involvement in this sex cult. (Although is it possible more people knew? Could it be the reason she was written out?). And I don’t want to retroactively hate Kevin Spacey films. He’s a fucking great actor and they were some fucking good films. It can be why we often want to know as little BTS info as possible, in order to separate the possibly shitty human being from the artistic work. Only on occasion are the actors so nice that it can even increase your enjoyment, but even that is risky because you might find out something about them you did not want to know.

Aaaghh, that's a film I still gotta see! Noe in general is a filmmaker I gotta get better acquainted with. Nice call on The Outsider! Just pulled the first ep. up to check out the intro & it makes for a pretty cool visual transition into the episode. Curious to see a full episode!

It's a goal of mine to revisit more classics this year & some Hitchcock would definitely be included in there. Think the one I saw most recently would've been North By North West - I remember being surprised by the credits, actually, the green background and the blue grids giving way to the city building. It's been a minute since I've seen Psycho & Vertigo, but those definitely set the tone. Great picks all 'round! Maybe someday someone ought'a put together a greatest opening credits marathon of some kind!

And it's gonna be a personal line for pretty much everyone to draw on their own, based on their own morality and all that. I guess I feel like the main bottom line is that.. if you're aware that someone involved with art you love is or has done something shitty/vile, you at least ought to acknowledge & be aware of it for yourself. From there... it exists, you've seen it before, the rest is up to you. Or even if you haven't, just going in with that awareness, I think is a good thing. I think the biggest conundrum is the monetary part, should you be in a position to be directly contributing to whoever it is. Funny enough, these days I idolize and hold people up a whooole lot less. Anytime someone rises up to the top of pop-culture adulation these days, I become a bit uncomfortable haha. Kinda fascinating the amount of ways behind-the-scenes info has changed the business & how we take in movies.
