Super 5x21 Two Minutes to Midnight WATCH ALONG

Just to make it clear....yeah...Death's intro is something I can watch numerous times (and have even after all these years). That's just the entrance with the wind, pulling up in his car, seeing his ring and cane, the mix of fast to slow motion, perfect song, so casual when he brushes off his shoulder after that guy bumps into him and dies immediately. He's a foodie on top of being one of my favorite characters. It's so amazing that he is easily so terrifying, you can tell Dean is fearful to move an inch or say something to upset him, let alone kill him - and yet he's almost the exact opposite of his 'brothers'. To share a meal, their chat over pizza about being enslaved by Lucy the brat being beneath him and then get bonus info about how to stop this whole thing is crazy! I seriously rank this "Two Minutes to Midnight" so high because he is the triple-extra-cherry on top of this already great episode.

Yes! Beautiful episode. Plus Death’s character entrance is my favorite of the whole show. I just love Death’s character as a whole and the gravitas that actor has playing him. Like he’s so calm but there’s always this underlying feeling that this is someone to be respected and perhaps terrified of. And he pulls it off perfectly

Hello Death...favorite character intro next to Castiel. Yes, it's almost the end of the Kripke era, but there are still amazing seasons to come. As for season 6, I have a love/hate relationship with it, but it still has one of my favorite episodes ever and many other excellent ones along with it. Honestly, I'm just super looking forward to hearing your thoughts on a season that's so borderline controversial in the fandom.

Oof, Thursday is my favorite episode of the series. I'm ecstatic.

Great episode! Death might be the coolest character and have the coolest character introduction. Episode has a great flow and manages to focus on every character. Glad we have you guys because I couldn't grasp how great this episode is to me, I mean why I liked it that much. As Crowley's motive, I guess considering their in a battle he just thought one more soldier is better. He is not ill placed or evil, he is just selfish and always trying to increase his chances. So excited for the season finale, hearing your thoughts about the road so far would be great. Hope you continue the show, even if there is downs along the way, there is also soo much great things to come.

I’ve been waiting since you guys started this journey for this episode (and the next one). Echoing what everyone else is commenting but Death is one of my favorite characters and Julian Richings plays him perfectly here!

Love this ep, and Death is such an amazing character. His intro is easily top 3 characters intros in the show (along with Cas's). Bobby getting his legs back was such a hopeful moment, and we needed it with all the awful the boys had to deal with this season <3 About Crowely's behavior- this is actually the first time it occured to me that his "let's get pizza" wasn't because he actually knew all along Death was there and simply being difficult, but actually was Death's influence and attmept to get Dean there! Can't believe I never caught that detail before lol Are you planning on watching season 5 gag reel before starting season 6? Can't wait for the finale! Edit- If I'm not mistaken, Kripke was still invovlved with season 6, he just wasn't heading it anymore. It's not my favorite from a Myth Arc point of view, but has some great mini/solo arcs/eps. Season 7 is probably the worst one (for me at least)

The other comments already summed my thoughts up on this episode, so I’ll just leave you with a fun fact, Crowleys phone is Mark Shepard’s genuine phone that he still owns and he still has that photo of him and Bobby saved on it 😂

Matt Frewer is one of my favorite actors. He was Max Headroom. He’s actually been in tons of shows and movies, but one of his gems is playing Trashcan Man in The Stand. He takes a little scene and chews it up. Julian Richings is so good as Death. I agree with everyone that his character’s entrance is one of the best. Small thing, I believe Death said he’d reap god, not kill him. So glad you enjoyed all the wonderful little facets of this episode. I can’t wait till the next one. ........ War. His name is War. 🙃

Welcome to Fanwarz Part 327 - who has the best entrance, Cas or Death? 😂😂 Love this episode - difficult to believe they crammed so much into such a short time. Matt Frewer (who I knew from Eureka) and Julian Ritchings both superb as Pestilence and Death. They brought real presence to the roles. Playing 'evil' is not easy (although are the Horsemen really evil? They are really supposed to just represent natural forces, aren't they?). And like you say, they both brought something very real to their parts. But my favourite scene has to be Dean sitting down across from Death. Death casually eating pizza could so easily have made the character less threatening - more ordinary, or even comical somehow. But it didn't. They played it pitch perfect, and Jensen did a great job showing Dean for once scared out of his mind! Finale next - and for all finales, the "previously on" section is mandatory! It's the SPN anthem "Wayward Son".

Death's entrance still makes me giddy after all these years! That version was sung by Jennifer Titus and helps really make the scene.

I don’t find Cas capable of romantic thoughts, or attraction, or anything remotely in that realm. I’ve always found all the angels to be asexual and aromantic. But there is plenty of agape love—pure platonic brotherly love. Like soldiers who fought in the same war. Yes, Greg: remember how Adam didn’t get out of the beautiful room in Van Nuys? Michael was already on his way, so he grabbed him. Adam had already said YES to Zachariah. So yeah, Michael has settled for Adam since he can’t have Dean. Fun reaction!

Jonathan Cassell

Btw Greg/John it's WAR not Wrath (that's a sin) lol anyway Ever since I saw Julian Richings in anything after I saw him in SPN I say oh nice it's DEATH (played it so well) he was my absolute fav horsemen and his intro is fantastic. Looking forward to the finally 😁👍

Back then I wasn't on the internet often. I'm sure it was known the show would continue, but I remember searching and not finding out. I was sad because if it was the end, I wanted MORE of Death and Crowley. Such great characters coming in at the end of the season. Deaths presence is just amazing. Like you guys said, pitch perfect. I just wanted Dean to sit there and talk with him for an entire episode lol and they actually hyped up his appearance with some promos https://youtu.be/93_a3HLAG4s As for future seasons, 6 is fine. Yeah the show kind of has to find its new master plan and you can definitely feel that. 7 is the one a lot of people don't like, but both still have some amazing episodes.

People seem to really be building up this finale as the most amazing thing on earth. Well, guess we'll just see what you think. Season 4 is still my favorite of these two last Kripke season's. Always will be. As for the upcoming season, Try not to listen to what people are saying, because it's really up to what you think. Some people love season 6 and some don't. And everything in between. Same with 7. I'll let you know what I think of them after you're well into them. You are right, though. Different showrunners means different perspective on things and it's not Kripke's baton at the podium any more. About the great writing. Well, yes. The writing is amazing, but there are also a lot of ad-libs that happen, and some of the best bits were ad-libbed. Like the little nuance in what Dean said. It's the sort of thing that Jensen often adds. I can't say that's what happened here, definitively, but someone may know. I'll leave it at that, since everyone else has already said what's to say.

FWIW, I really like season 6. I think the show definitely feels a bit different - like you say, new showrunner, new storylines. I hope it's not a spoiler to say, but the show mostly moves towards season-long arcs from next season, rather than big multi-season ones like 1-5. I like the arc in s6, and I think there are a lot of really strong episodes, especially in the second half of the season. I don't like the main arc in s7, but that season does also have some really great individual episodes. I hope you guys keep going with it, it's different but still good!

Chaos T

Death's entrance is one of the most boss entrances in network tv.

Season 6 suffers from season five being one of the best if not the best season of the show (for me it's 5,4,11 though season four is starting to become my favorite after multiple re-watches). The season 6 story in a vacuum is pretty decent. It has it's highs and lows but still has pretty decent writing particularly for a network tv show. That's the rub for me with SPN. I don't think it reaches the high of some shows but it certainly doesn't reach the low of even great shows. Even in it's down seasons I feel the show is still entertaining and the writing is consistent through 15 seasons where I'm still invested in the Sam/Dean story.
