Another Jensen directed episode!

Michele

I appreciate that Jensen directed this episode, but that couldn't get me to like it. Haven't watched your reaction yet, so I'm interested in watching to see your take on it.

Sharon Owen

This episode wasn't the best. It had nothing to do with Jensen's directing though, it was the story line and writing that wasn't the best. It's still better than next episode IMO... sorry to say. Get through it and some good episodes will await!

Melanie LeBlanc

Oh yeah, this episode.....and Amelia was there, too...

Sharon Owen

Oh yeah and Alan Ackles is Jensen's dad. He played the cop at the beginning of the episode!

Jules R

For this season, I find starting episode 11 and after it gets real good!

Simply Faded

This was the first episode shot for the season and that's why Jensen directed it (so that he could prep without having to worry about filiming other episodes). Also, not surprised on your reactions to the written given the pair that wrote this episode.

Michele

The writing team for this episode explains why it was so badly written. They're not very good with dialogue. Plus, they seem to not care about being true to history - such as Sam actually having a "normal life" before. For a few years. It's like they don't even care.

Mary Coelho

As usual, I agree with your review of this one. Sort of hollow, especially compared to other monster of the week episodes. Even in an isolated monster episode, they can usually instill more 'heart.'

It would have been fascinating to be a fly on the wall during pre-production for this episode. Given all the hats that directors wear, I would have liked to know what improvements or rewrites happened (if any) and why or where some of the choices were made. Also wonder how much control they gave him in those decisions. IMO, it was a bad idea to give such a weakly written episode to someone with less experience. A more seasoned director might have made different decisions because of it.

Vel

I always wondered why J2 didn't say something about a lot of the scripting given the power they have always had to tweak the dialog a bit to suit their characters. That alone would have changed a few things and made more sense. I get WHY they're telling this particular story, but I agree with Greg, that the execution is...off. Like, what was up with that?

I don’t remember much of the first half of season 8. I am glad I am able to revisit it with you guys, but man this episode was bad. I know this season has some good ones, just not sure when exactly we will get to them lol. Hang in there guys it gets better.

Sam's experience over the year feels like its put there solely to create conflict with Dean's experience in that year. The next episode is really solid though and I think you will enjoy it.

Zophiela

I find this episode as kind of filler and meh. However, the next one is a unique episode that is a bit divisive with the fan base. I can’t wait to see what you think.
