I thought this episode was pretty good. We got Kevin, Crowley AND Cas all in the same episode. That's rare. It was interesting learning about Metatron and his history and connection to the tablets. I am worried about Sam, and what he said made my heart hurt a bit. I was pissed about the retconning the writer did with the whole story about the Grand Canyon donkey ride. Unless it was for a hunt, there's no way John did that. He didn't take them on vacation trips or family outings like that. That's well known. But this writer makes it seem like John was just a typical father. And the soup? Nope. This writer doesn't respect the character history, or they're purposefully changing it. Maybe to make John look better. The writer is Ben Edlund, so that's kind of surprising that he'd do that. He's been around a long time and knows the history. I have a note for you guys about your post episode comments. I am interested in what each of you have to say about an episode, so it doesn't matter to me if you repeat something the other person has said. John gave his thoughts on the episode and different parts of it. What he liked and so forth. I don't see why Greg couldn't do the exact same thing, even if there's overlap. Sure you can identify each thing and go back and forth on each topic, but it's okay if you don't and each person does their comments solo. And - you're almost done with season 8. Wow. Over halfway through with the series now. Congrats! Only `10 more years to go. lol

I love this episode for all of Edlund's interesting/insightful world-building mechanics. I do have to agree with Michele that I have no idea where that anecdotal grand canyon story came from. I just head cannon that Sam was super sick this episode, and instead of that being a valid memory, it was a delusion. Especially since there was a very early episode where Dean said at like 27 years old he had never been there. Kevin and Crowley were awesome, obviously, this episode. The meta commentary is always fun for me (pre season12). The people making the show always talked about their fascination with network censors and always tried to push the envelope, especially in the violence aspect. Super interesting to think about.
