Korra definitely had growth in season 1. No it was heavily focused on, but it was still there. Learning to not fear amon, her under the impression that without bending, she's nothing which isn't true. And she learns when not to fight several times in season 1. But because of the issues with Nickelodeon in season 1, and rushing them in season 2, they kind of had to regress characters to grow them again. So that might be why there doesn't seem to be much difference in Korras character. Yes season 2 is a drag sometimes, but think it gets better.

This season is definitely less clear than the others in terms of what the goal is. I agree with your stance about the characters not having definitive arcs too. I think overall, Korra as a character is more of a passive protagonist rather than aang who was active. Things tend to happen to Korra and she has to react to them in order to push the story whereas aang had a clear goal to chase through the series and that can make korra a little slower and less intense to a lot of people. There are a lot of interesting things to come this season though that I think you guys will enjoy even if the overall plot is not as engaging.
