Lava Bending Is A Subset of Earthbending, Like metal bending, and how healing is a subset of waterbending.

The way I’ve gathered it for subsets like lava bending is that it’s literally a specialized application of an element. While never shown to the level of cool as metal or lava, sand bending seems another subset of earth. To bend metal, you have to bend the tiniest of particles still in the metal, with sand, it’s a similar concept, but you have to move thousands of tiny particles that have no solid base, and with lava, you move the earth and rock with such heavy pressure and friction alongside pulling up the lava from beneath the crust. That one seems like it should be fire, but you have to remember that lava is molten rock, it still constitutes as earth in that, it’s soft rock. I imagine if they specified metals to bend it would have a Sicilian fluidity to bending gold. Water of course has blood bending, which I theorize is actually related to the healing practices as well, as it works with the water in our bodies, which makes up cells. Blood bending controls the body through that water, healing uses the water to enhance the cells and natural healing process. Swamp bending was the same concept, but through plants instead of people. One could also argue that ice is a subset that happens to be so common it’s just seen as regular water bending. This being because it originated in cold areas so it’s a natural extension of the bending for the people there. But then does that mean you can control the temperature of water? Can you make it steam and bend that? Fire’s only subset seems to be lightning bending from what we’ve seen, but could apply to other methods potentially. Air is the only one that has no real subset. All of this is interesting given what we learn from Aangs training with Toph. Earth is stubborn, sturdy, and rigid, while air is light and free. And yet earth has the most freedom in its application, while wind in all its vast freedom has no real way to specialize that we’ve seen. None of this really matters, and how much is intentionally thought out I couldn’t say. But there’s enough precedence and lore to actually have a pretty solid understanding of the system and what possibilities it could bring.
