Damn, the thought that you could have uploaded this on the 11th of September....

lewis is your patron

this episode is one of the rare instances where the show is firing on every cylinder. the script from steven moffat is immaculate, the direction from rachel talalay is fantastic, the soundtrack from murray gold is immense, and peters solo performance in the episode is arguably his strongest performance in the role. will always love this episode, my favourite of moffat’s stories, which is saying a lot because he has some bangers.

YES I was so excited for you guys to get to this one, genuinely one of my favorite episodes of the show, Rachel Talalay turns everything she touches into pure gold I can totally understand Greg's position of respecting the episode more than he liked it even though my experience was different. I definitely had to watch it a couple of times before my brain fully wrapped around everything--but I would say the thing that I was able to personally latch onto other than the question of "What's happening?" is the bits where he refers to Clara. I think it would have felt too on the nose or too overdone for me if they had only made it a metaphor for grief episode, so the little bit we got of his grief for Clara felt so brilliant and crushing for me. Specifically when he wants to give up, "Why can't I just lose?" and they finally show her face, THAT'S what I latch onto emotionally in this episode. But I think Greg's initial reaction to the episode is valid, and it was really interesting to see the different ways you and John felt about it. Will be even more interesting in how you will both think of it after the next episode! Great reaction guys!

2023-05-11 21:43:34 This is probably my most rewatched episode of Doctor Who. I lost a family member recently and dialogue from this script kept coming to mind, "the day you lose someone isn't the worst -at least you've got something to do- it's all the days they stay dead" and "you are not the only person who ever lost someone. It's the story of everybody." I enjoy the acting, the music (!!), the reveal of the confession dial at the end, how it hinges the story that came before and what happens next! Also, Capaldi's my favorite so I'm very biased. :) Thanks for the reaction!

So, I love this show and all, but not as much as I love this one episode. I feel like it understands and empathizes with not only grief, but any kind of trauma with a long, excruciating recovery process where the progress you make each day feels insignificant in the face of how much more is left to go. And I appreciate that it's more hopeful than it is dark. I think imaginary-Clara's line "it's the story of everybody" does a good job of humanizing the Doctor and making you feel like you could have that kind of resilience. But I do understand Greg's reaction; it's an episode that demands a lot of patience and attention while not really rewarding you for it until the very end. I can see how that might be frustrating, even though that wasn't my experience with it. I gotta disagree that it would work better as a text; I think the visuals, the music and the performance are a key part of what makes it so moving, especially in that final montage.

One of the only doctor who episodes to make me feel claustrophobic

Everything about this episode hits, the script, the music, Rachel Talalay's directing (she just gets it) and Peters phenomenal acting (this is one of the rare instances the material is equal to Capaldi's talent). It's confusing, emotional and engrossing and I just love it.

This episode is one of the most iconic performances in the Twelfth Doctor's run and for Peter Capaldi in general. I also love the ending following up on The Day of the Doctor, where it echoes the Doctor(s) thousands of years to calculate where to send Gallifrey and how long it took Twelfth Doctor to escape.

Personal fav episode of new who on par with the 50th anniversary, for the same reasons already mentioned by everyone else 😂👌
