I know it’s a late comment, but this reaction is so fun to rewatch. I just got to the bit where Coy and John are asking what sounds a shark makes and I couldn’t find any comments explaining it on the YouTube video. The answer is, they don’t. One of the reasons they’re so “terrifying” to most people is because they are absolutely silent and literally sneak up on you. They have no way of making sound, and even their scales have evolved to be silent as they swim through the water. They communicate with each other through body language. There’s one shark found in New Zealand waters that is reported to make a noise like a barking dog, but no scientist has ever recorded it. They believe it’s because the shark has a pufferfish-like reflex that sucks in air like a balloon, and when it deflates, the air is released in bursts like a bark. The other main reason people are so afraid of sharks is because of Jaws. It’s one of my favourite movies but man it did sharks so dirty. Most sharks don’t attack people, and the ones that do, do it out of curiosity and hunger, not because they ‘want’ to eat us. Especially in the modern days where we sell pretty swimsuits and wetsuits that reflect light like a fish scales. They don’t have hands to touch us to figure out what we are, so they use what they have - their mouths. When they realise we’re not a delicious fish - or seal for the larger varieties - they let go. Most deaths occur from blood loss from the bite, not the shark itself. And even though the Great White is the most feared, the Bull shark is the most aggressive. Statistically, there have only been about 360 UNPROVOKED attacks on humans by great whites, and only 57 have been fatal. Out of the billions of people in the world, that’s a very low chance of getting attacked. So basically, like any of the world’s deadliest animals, if you don’t poke it, it should leave you alone.
