The First Three Trinkets | Patreon Weekly #250 (Patreon)
Content
Hey Patrons! In this weekly I’m going to share more trinket progress. Three trinkets have been implemented into the game!
Firstly though, a few things to go over:
There’s a new Shattered Secrets this week! In this month’s Shattered Secrets I’m going to share my rough gameplay plan for the Cleric’s early levels!
There’ll also be an audio Q&A next week! You can ask questions here or in the Patreon discord.
The results are also in for Patreon Poll #51:
New Room Types: 84%
T1 Talent Changes: 34%
Custom Notes: 29%
New Badges: 29%
Item Spritework: 21%
More rooms has an extremely commanding victory here, so that’s what I’ll be primarily focusing on, though there might be room for the T1 talent tweaks as well. Honestly every time I poll something levelgen related it does extremely well. Clearly it’s something I underestimate the demand for, so I’ll also be considering more levelgen stuff in the future as well.
Three Trinkets
Since last week three trinkets have been roughly implemented! Each trinket starts out with the effect being noticeable but not completely run-altering, but with more energy spent on upgrades the effect can become much more pronounced. Note that while these trinkets are totally functional, a lot of the specific details for them aren’t final.
The first implemented trinket is the Rat Skull, finally returning after being removed from Shattered almost 10 years ago! The skull was originally a quest item, but it now returns as a trinket that boosts the chance to encounter exotic enemies. This can increase the challenge a little bit, but also provides more opportunity for rare encounters and loot.
Next is the Parchment Scrap, which grants a boost to both enchantment/glyph and curse chance for weapons and armor. At lower levels this definitely makes things a bit riskier, but as the trinket levels up things slowly start to tend toward 100% enchant/glyph chance and 0% curse chance. Importantly, this also applies to some cases where curses are impossible, like loot from the sad ghost.
Lastly there’s the Petrified Seed, which replaces some seed drops from grass with runestones instead. This can substantially increase the variety of items gained via grass and provide a more consistent source of runestones. I’m also considering making this trinket boost item drop rates from grass a bit in general, so that the loss of seed drop chance isn’t too steep.
I’m going to be spending quite a bit of time this week on moving, but should hopefully have at least one new trinket to share in next weekly.
