Hey Patrons, in this weekly I’m going to talk about the Patreon turning 5!

As of May 12th 2024 this Patreon is 5 years old! It’s crazy to think that it’s been so long already, but I also look back at how different Shattered and this place were back in 2019 and it feels like an age has passed.

I don’t have a lot prepared this time, what with getting v2.4.0 ready for full release after its beta, but I did spend a little time thinking back to where Shattered was five years ago. Shattered itself has changed a lot since 2019, but perhaps the biggest change is the audience it has reached and how sustainable it is for me as a career.

Back in 2019 this Patreon was just getting started, and I was making well below minimum wage from Shattered Pixel Dungeon. Over the last five years the Patreon has grown to almost 200 members, Shattered’s player count has quintupled on Google Play, and Shattered has released to new audiences on iOS and desktop platforms! That ‘below minimum wage’ figure has changed to selling over 100k copies of the game total (including Google Play supporters), most of which are in the last 2 years. We’ve gone from the Patreon starting out with a few dedicated fans from other PD communities to well over 100 people being subscribed for 2+ years!

And now, as of this month actually, I’ll be sending the very first pins from series 2! This will start with the black three year pins, but the two and one year pins will follow in the coming months. This series has 100 of each pin, so expect all of the numbers to roll back to 1/100 after the last one from series 1 is given out. These pins are part of a new production run, but they’re from the same factory using the same mould, so differences should be practically non-existant.
