This is why I stay up to ungodly hours in the night.

Taverius

Great, now I can't help but think of an overengineered pyjama "system" replete with backronyms and a 300-page operations manual 🤣

GhostlyYorick

a 300-page operations manual on *any* interactions with females blue or not - will not suffice - at all

Tucker

did she just share a psi-flash with him and not even know it. Psi-flash: a flash of mental images, memory or thought that is shared between two or more people.

Anthony Docimo

thats my hunch too...maybe it was sent on basically a private bandwith, so only she and he were aware of it.

Anthony Docimo

I think NASA actually has reports that thick, on topics like sleeping in space, and doing the horizontal tango in low-gravity, etc.

Classical Salamander

How many times can he know too much before they become reasonably suspicious? ;p

Tucker

I don't think she knows she is doing it. I think she proded him so deep that she inadvertently created a psi link between the two that he can now tap into

How about when will _he_ become suspicious? Just because Humans aren't aware of having telepathic abilities doesn't mean they might not discover that's only among their own kind...it would seem odd, I'll grant, to find that you have the ability to hook up with alien minds and not those of your own species, how that could come to pass requires a major stretch of suspension of disbelief. Of course, that we are reading works dealing with FTL travel, alien species, etc., does indicate a certain willingness to suspend disbelief... *grin*

Shane Wegner

So wait... do they not know about Fireblade’s injury? As in Fireblade has mind guarded it from them in her usual walled off style? Or they do know it as a matter of fact and are quizzing Alex about it as a test. That’s the thing about telepathic ladies. [Hey Fireblade, before you go to watch, did you ever have an injury to your right eye?] [HOW THE [Sea Slug excrement] DID YOU KNOW THAT?] Or- [Quick check everyone, I’m not used to this much vocal, but did anyone actually say anything about Fireblade’s scar we all know about out loud to Alex? If not, I need to pay closer attention or ask Fireblade to experiment more.] Side deduction, the Loroi have perfect eye regeneration and cosmetic repair. But it’s either understandably in short supply and has a wait list in a time of total war, and/or Fireblade didn’t have the status to requisition it yet as a trainee and / or kept it for a while as a symbolic reminder of something until it became operationally required. “Hey I know you keep the scar as a reminder of (whatever) but regs say you gotta have Binocular vision if you’re going to the frontlines and the nanites are going to heal the nearby scar as well.” Or she wanted the scar gone once she could get the healing scheduled.

Shane Wegner

Using telekinesis to push him in the elevator might possibly have created a residual link as well.

Ronald Homer

Or maybe their healing process just takes a couple of months, and occurs in-place. Sew the eyelid shut, and keep doing your training without stereo vision for a few months.

Earl Tower

Hmm, it will be interesting to see how they react at an official level once they realize humans can be connected long term to one of them if a telepathic link was established. Or something to that measure.

Shane Wegner

Hmm, they might just be better natural regenerators. That seems like something ocean cellular structures could be open to.

Tucker

Due to the fact that these people are psionics which is enhanced via touch they're very private people. so most likely they don't really know anything that the others do not want them to know thanks to being able to block each other from going too deep or touching. Fireblade is a soldier she has disciplined herself to have multiple barriers in her mind so they don't know everything about her but due to link between her and him she is sharing intimate information that only he and her would be privy to so they may not know about the scar and the scar me be a result of her enhancement since she is a soldier

Ronald Homer

I was thinking that they would just inject some Nanotech-Stem-Cell Slurry into the eye socket, close the eyelid, and wait 12 weeks. but natural regeneration might work too.

Michael Pettersson

Fireblade looked like a teenager in the picture with eyescar, it had time to heal. This may be deep knowledge about her that the other do not have. Meanwhile Fireblade just left the room so her physical reaction cannot be seen but due to sanzai, she should have heard, not Alex but the others relaying what he said through sanzai. Still Fireblade are an expert at hiding her mind so the others may not know how she reacted.

Michael Pettersson

Who to say that humans are not telepathic in this setting? Humanity space are far away so the farseers cannot pick up anything anyway. If telepathy exist among humans but are rare and undeveloped due to we do not believe it to exist and treat it as "humbug". Our culture get into the way. There are also be possible that humans are tuned different then the loroi are (think of a radio transmitting on a frequency that you cannot pick up).

Hot take: This isn't the past we're seeing, it's Alex foretelling the future.

Anonymous

Are we sure it's Fireblade that Alex is picking up / getting images from? Or is it the psitech implant that is implanted in her? i.e. humans are sensitive to psi tech (especially if there is some precursor technology incorporated in it), but not especially to other telepaths. Sorry I'm not being clear - it sounded better in my head.
