My friends, these have to be the most difficult figures I've ever painted! It's not that the sculpts are bad or anything, these are Alpine figures, after all, but I just find US soldiers difficult. I noticed this even when I was painting that single paratrooper for the watermill diorama. The more gear, pouches, backpacks and whatnot the figure has, the more time it takes you to paint everything.

Also, the black and white preshading technique doesn't work so well on lighter colors, so their jackets needed a lot of extra work. But in the end, well, I don't see them as my best figures, but I'm very proud of them!

I won't lie when I say that painting these was truly back-breaking work because although I finished them yesterday, my back still hurts :D I'd say painting them took somewhere between 30-40 hours total. I spent the last 3 and a half days on them, pretty much non-stop. Maybe I'm just an extremely slow painter, but I'm damn glad that they're done!

You'll find some progress shots in the gallery so you can see how they came to life.

Very nice paintjob. A little tip if I may? If you start with face, you will get the feel of the figure.

Moje oblíbené téma - figurky. Děkuji za krásnou ukázku malby. Pevně doufám, že bude i video z malby. Krásná práce 👏👏👏👏

And I was thinking that they’re your best so far! 🤨 Your figure work has progressed a lot over the last couple of years… Any chance you could do a short video showing your early work and techniques Vs your latest work so we can see how you’ve progressed, how your technique has been refined and, possibly most importantly, how we can see that even someone with your talent and skill can develop… would be inspirational Martin 😎👍👍

Thank you! That's an interesting idea. Coincidentally, I recently bought a set of German tankers for another project, and they are actually the same figures I already have on my older models. One is standing on my Maus, and the other is the commander of the Jagdtiger. Not very original to use the same figures twice, but it might be a good comparison in technique!

That's interesting! I tend to work the opposite way because I can "sharpen" my hand on the uniforms and then paint the skin tones with more confidence.
