Rob Strecker is a huge Star Wars fan from Wisconsin who loves RFR's Billy Dee Quote of the Week. So much so, he has helped us dig through the archives to isolate and organize the entire history of the feature. And you can catch some of the best quote on the RFR YouTube page right now! For his first time ever, Rob hosts this all-new Q&A session and he reveals his personal Billy Dee Quote Top 5. And of course, we go on many different tangents along the way, including THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, THE MANDALORIAN and more. Plus, RFR behind-the-scenes info and updates that only Patreon members get to hear. Plus, rants about radio, Episode VIII, and The Yoda Warmup.

Can’t wait to hear Ashley again....great to get her back!

Rebel Force Radio

You'll enjoy the conversation. It's long too. Over an hour. Look for it tomorrow...I'll try to post it is early as possible here before it gets blasted out around 5pm central.

w. greg simmons

Can't wait for "bar stool RFR"!

Nathan McGowen

I humbly request that when you do your saga commentary rewatch do it in chronological order and include the animated clone wars movie! 😬

James johnson

My favorite part of the patreon shows are getting Jason and Jimmy a little more unleashed and unfiltered. I'm all for Bar Stool RFR !

Darrell Gumieny

Just listened to RFR-Q&A and it was mentioned that you would like more interactions with members, well I have a question. I don’t profess to have a PhD in Star Wars but have been a life long fan and based on the Rise of Skywalker my question is: Clearly the Emperor has a devoted following, he is an Evil Deity essentially, a Dark Side God. Does the light side of the Force have an equivalent? Am I missing the obvious? It certainly isn’t any Jedi Knight… I am a talking about a ‘spiritual’ leader with a following. I think back about Rogue One and the toppled massive statue on Jedha and the glorious past and if there was such a person at one time. Anyway, thoughts? Just something I was pondering.

Rebel Force Radio

Good question. The Sith and the Jedi were two very different entities. There was an overpowering number of Jedi to challenge the Sith's Rule of Two. The Rule of Two allowed the Master's spirit to join the Apprentice and every time it happened, the Sith grew in power. It wasn't until the era of Palpatine when the Sith had gained enough control over the Force to tip the balance and provide them with the power to take on The Jedi. During Palpatine's rule as Emperor, he had the resources and funds to develop a covert Sith religion and hide his devotees on Exegol. If there were a Light Side equivalent to Palpatine, that person could not have existed during the timeframe of The Skywalker Saga because they would have been easily discovered by The Jedi, who had the support and resources of the Republic. The Jedi had very wide reach for thousands and thousands of years. It is very doubtful a Light Side user could have amassed such an audience without being discovered by The Jedi. And they would have most likely put a stop to it. That's my take, at least.

Great episode! Looking forward to the Ashley interview, and Bar Stool Star Wars sounds like an awesome idea for a show.

Jeff

Bar stool Star Wars! Yes please

Darrell Gumieny

Thank you! That sounds great to me, appreciated. Keep up the great work you guys.

A lot to unpack in this episode, but I think an important detail Jimmy touched upon is that TLJ is small. I think this is why I have an easy time accepting it. If you think about the fact that there is no time between 7 and 8 and then the whole thing is a chase, it’s like a side story. Like Ep 7.5 almost. For my personal head canon I look at this and the info from Ep 9 that Luke and Lando were out chasing tail together and just figure: Luke freaked out for a couple years, realizes he screwed up, and bam he’s back to punk out Kylo. Overall I guess my point is TLJ can be a fun side story if you let it.

alex demunbrun

New to Patreon but great episode and love the bar stool episode idea!

Rebel Force Radio

Luke didn't freak out. He cut himself off from The Force, and it was like cutting off a limb. Made him lose all perspective and act like an idiot. As soon as he opens himself back up to The Force, he's all good. But, you see, most fans wanted an "all good" Luke for the film itself. Again, for this trilogy, all the interesting stuff, and much of the essential bits of storytelling, happened before the film began unfortunately.

Rebel Force Radio

And I wish someone could explain WHY Luke went in search of the first Jedi Temple. The only explanation we have is he didn't want to be found. There HAS to be more substance than that. He was in search of something, a stronger connection to The Force? Answers to some mysteries? The films give us nothing and really display how wrong Rian Johnson and his team were for Star Wars.

John Duckworth

Great episode. By the way, there are digital soundtrack releases for each chapter of the Mandalorian https://www.amazon.com/Mandalorian-Chapter-Original-Score/dp/B08144YBHL/

Nick Whenham

Really enjoyed this episode. Always cool to hear Jimmy dropping truth bombs right, left and centre! Rob's impersonation of Paul had me laughing! As a fellow Midlander of Paul (I'm from Birmingham, he's from Nottingham) it's hilarious to hear the American interpretation of the accent. Swank did a great one on an episode of Rush Hour a while back that had me in stitches! Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for all you guys do! Lockdown UK isn't really much fun and RFR episodes like this are great to listen to in such times. Cheers from Brum! No buttons and zippers here! ;)

Steven M DuBrey

I just meant getting scared of himself and cutting himself off from the force when I said “freaked out”. You nailed it when you say there have to be some answers and all of the stuff we wanted to see happens off screen. Bottom line is these movies were very poorly written and coordinated. My only disagreement with your response is I think Rian Johnson directed the hell out of that movie, but he wrote a shitty movie to begin with. I feel that way about episode 9 too though. Ep 7 had so much potential for us even if we missed out on the stuff we really wanted to see prior, but that was Kasden. All of them look great( minus the slo-mo).

Nick Whenham

Naaa! That's why we love you Jimmy!

Rebel Force Radio

I get it. Didn't mean to come off as dismissive. Rian is a good director, but I don't think he's cut out for Star Wars. Nobody is still thinking his future trilogy will ever happen, right?

Steven M DuBrey

I dunno. I hope it does happen. His addition to the saga is garbage only because it’s a saga film. How many times have you said you understand what he was doing but episode 8 out of 9 was not the place. It’s true: He undermined the characters that had been established. Not a good choice. Nor should it have been allowed. But the fact of the matter is TLJ looks great, sounds great, and has the strongest emotional impact(Rey and Kylo) of the sequel trilogy. It’s all a hot mess and he had no business in there. But man I bet he’d make a stand-alone series we’d all love if it didn’t have characters we have a lifetime of history with.

Rebel Force Radio

He seems like damaged goods at this point. Placing him back in the big chair for a SW film will probably cause riots outside Lucasfilm HQ. And I’m not interested in his auteur take on SW. Square peg and a round hole. Just doesn’t work.

Steven M DuBrey

Hehehe. Ok. Agree to disagree. I like his work, I’m just not a fan of TLJ. But I’m not much of a fan of the sequel trilogy. I think they are going to have the opposite life of the prequels, ie age poorly. And I do agree with everything you’ve said in the past about his conduct with the fans. He’d need to repair his relationship with the fan base and take responsibility for making poor story choices to earn the right to make more. I don’t think anyone can get it right the first time out and Skywalker saga films should never have been made without GL co-writing.

Great episode. Barstool RFR is a great idea during the lockdown. A virtual happy hour. A couple suggestions: 1) I would be to make it a Patreon exclusive. 2) I would pick a topic or two to discuss to keep the conversation focused. For example, favorite Clone Wars character, Favorite Star Wars toy from when you were a kid, favorite current Star Wars collectible, favorite song from any of the soundtracks (including Mandalorian and Shadows of the Empire), favorite EU book, favorite Original Marvel comic story, favorite Dark Horse story, favorite current marvel story, favorite starship (movies, books, comics, video games, FFG, etc), favorite cantina character, favorite Kenner action figures (OT), favorite Hasbro action figures, etc. Would be focused, which we all need while drinking, and would have a ton of discussion too. My two cents :)

Eric from Phoenix

Lol, just got to the end of the Episode. Thanks for the shout out JMac! Made my day😁. My hands are cleaner then they’ve ever been in my life.

Rebel Force Radio

Yes, it would only be for Patreon members in the RFR COMLINK tier and up. We should make the topics listeners choice only...I think that would be fun. Good feedback.

Jared Cantor

Oh man, I forgot about that episode with you guys discussing Telly and that Titanic show! I laughed so hard. I'll have to find it again and give it a listen. Humor is desperately needed these days

Rob Strecker

wonder what paul thought of my "paul"
