What do The Bloodhound Gang, Bush, D.J. Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince all have in common? They all released tracks featuring STAR WARS references within the lyrics! RFR V.I.P. Rob O from Chicago is back with another collection of STAR WARS references in popular music featuring those artists and more including Robbie Williams, Missy Elliot and more! And don't miss our STAR WARSified custom cut of Queens of the Stone Age's "These Aren't the Droids You're Looking For"! Plus, Rob O's got some interesting information about a possible George Lucas connection to the Chicago White Sox.

Star Wars and music, one of my favorites! I’ll check it out on my drive tonight.

Really enjoyed the show. I grew up in NYC but enjoy hearing Chicago White Sox lore. GL may not be a baseball fan but if he served as third-base coach for a game he could give his usual advice: faster and more intense!

How about a song with a Star Wars sample? Listen closely to DJ Shadow's "Hindsight" around 1:16. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdTMswKBR-k

Whoa!!! Glad my Suggestion of BUSH got top dibs! Can’t beat Rock n’ Roll! And yes. You said my name right. WID like as in a Vid-eo.

Let's go rob o! Love these episodes!

Interesting to note that 2 live Crew got the cease and desist letter, but Chicago greats Wilco literally named an album Star Wars and heard nothing about it. Chicago biased confirmed lol

My only comment on Kanye because right now he is really acting a fool... Is that I would like to hear him on RFR talk about Star Wars. But there's no way he would only stick to Star Wars. That being said, seems like a great place to bring up my theory that Kanye West is Anakin Skywalker. When he first came out, people hailed him as the Savior of real hip hop, but soon fell to the dark side due to arrogance of his own talents and importance, a large heart, rash, decision making, and anger (first with the passing of his mother, then with a divorce and losing his wife). Now he finds himself the villain of his own story, lost in darkness but holding on to the idea he's trying to do good. J Mac - it is your mission to Luke Skywalker Kanye West and bring him back to the light.

Always look forward to these Rob O! If I may recommend the song “Sick Tight” by 311. There’s a quick nod to Chewie about 30 seconds in. Lol

RobO from ChicagO

Lol! We recorded this convo before he started going even further off the rails with his most recent comments. If anyone can help Kanye’s redemption tour its RFR!

RobO from ChicagO

JimmyMac, you went hard with the droid sounds in the ending song, love it, lol.

Antonio from NJ

Haha I was guessing that much... But agree -Help Ye, RFR, you're his only hope! And as always another great one. Forgot about that bloodhound gang reference - god stuff man. The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire hah great song

I can imagine some Hutts being part of the CGI crowd at Lucas Field!

Here in Japan, there is this ukelele and flute arrangement of the Imperial March called やる気のないダースベーダー("Darth Vader Not Feeling Up To It")that gets major play on TV--mostly comedy talk shows, travel shows, etc. I must hear it four or five times a week. Also, our local radio station, CBC Radio (home of the Chunichi Dragons) has a late-night show where the host literally plays this for thirty minutes straight as he does his monologue. I don't think it's played much outside of Japan, but I'd be curious to know if others have heard it before. It's cute! I play it whenever I'm cleaning my Star Wars room! FYI, it was released in 2006 by the Kuricorder Quartet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1wA3Z7xrq0

Rebel Force Radio

I should point out, any conversation we had about Kanye that made it into the show occurred before his current streak of insanity.

Joe Dallas

Great show. That closing song was great! I loved it! Dying of droid laughter 😂 Jimmy. I also have the VHS board game that I bought when it was on first run!

for your consideration for next Popular Music episode: "Earth Bunker" by V2A from Machine Corps (2011) Darth Vader breathing is used as part of the music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ND0c_D2N8vE

Great episode! Love these music ones! Here's a suggestion for the next one, it's a genre that hasn't been covered yet, country! It's from 2002 and is called 19 Somethin' by Mark Wills. It will be very hard to miss it because it's the first line of the song lol https://youtu.be/sm--KJk-kgw Not a Star Wars reference but a Lucasfilm reference, Indiana Jones to be specific. This one is from 2013 by William Clark Green and it's called She Likes the Beatles. https://youtu.be/jNdm5tmS4Bk

Thanks guys, I love these music Q&As! Here are a couple of suggestions for your consideration. My apologies if they've already been used, but I don't think they have.

Turtle Wars

Oops, didn't add a new line properly. Here are my suggestions: We have Gwar singing about building an R2-D2 at the 40 second mark on the track "The Performer" from the 1999 album We Kill Everything. Then the really cool songs come from an obscure local Charleston, SC punk band called Hybrid Mutants. They have two songs, one titled "Rancor Blues" from their 2002 album 2 on the Table. The other is titled "Calling Boba Fett" from a 2015 album Apollo 69. Both songs can be heard in their entirety here (tracks 15 and 16): https://hybridmutants.bandcamp.com/releases I took this video at one of their rare live performances recently. "Rancor Blue" starts at the 12-minute mark where the song is introduced, and he says the song is about the Rancor Pit, but I don't really get that out of the lyrics that I am able to discern. Maybe I'm missing something though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJuPpLjcO2o&t=942s

Great discussion guys. I wasn’t familiar with any of this music but had fun listening. I played the Old Republic MMORPG from beta up until 2015. I really enjoyed it. I would love to see you guys play the board game with VHS. Never had it!
