It's been heavily inferred that Plagueis and Sidious were trying to influence the midicholrians to create life and Anakin was the result. Perhaps Grogu could be a Light Side counter-reaction to their Dark Side experiments - JMac

Hey everyone "Smartless" podcast released today is with Jon Favreau. He calls him "Baby Yoda" at the start and goes on to explain the reasoning behind the name. Most of the podcast is not about Star Wars but it does venture back there later in the podcast and there's a lot of interesting detail about how The Mandalorian came to be, and how (and why) the tech behind "The Volume" came to be. It was a great listen.

Well, Palatine sure seems to take ownership over creating Anakin, doesn't he? And if he and Plagueis were both "manipulating the midicloriand to create...life," perhaps Plagueis was the one to create Grogu.
