In a surprise announcement this week, Lucasfilm revealed THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU will be an upcoming feature film to go into production this year. We look forward to the Mando movie and how it will affect the other STAR WARS films already in the pipeline. Director of the upcoming Daisy Ridley "New Jedi Order" film, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, made her first on-camera comments about the movie, inciting negative backlash from the fanbase. We analyze her statements within their appropriate context and try to discover what gives her the proper skill set to direct a STAR WARS film.

Kudos to you guys for really breaking down and analyzing SOC’s comments with a neutral perspective. I still believe that Disney/Lucasfilm have absolutely no idea what they are doing with the IP. Which baffles me. Similar to my love with sports (White Sox and Bears), I feel as if current Star Wars has an ownership problem. I say this as a huge fan, I want Star Wars to be amazing. Regardless I’ll be there opening night for any theater release like the feen that I am!

I agree, RobO. I’ve said this for a while now but I think when we look back on Disneys ownership of this franchise (say 20 years from now), we will agree it was one of the worst mismanagements of a franchise of any kind in history. I want it to succeed though. I am glad there are such great fans and community like here on RFR patreon!

Is it an ownership problem, or does the GM just have no idea what she’s doing? I think it’s the latter, primarily, but either way we can agree that Star Wars is in the wrong hands.

I’ll retort back to my sports analysis… the bears and Sox have been widely unsuccessful over the past 30-40 years, with a few good seasons sprinkled in, but no long term success. What’s the one constant? The same ownership… the GMs and players have changed, but the owners have remained. With Star Wars… the ownership has elected to keep their “GM” in her position, despite the numerous flops, controversial decisions, and general lack of plan.

Great to have you back! Don't forget that Gloria Katz worked on the script for A New Hope so that's an additional female influence. Thank you for the honest and fair breakdown of Sharmeen's comments. It frustrates me that so many people were dishonest in using her old quote totally out of context, however, I also thought her "it's about time we had a woman come forward to shape a story in the galaxy far, far away" statement was dumb. Just goes to show that multiple things can be true at the same time. All I want for Star Wars is a good story, existing characters getting treated with respect, no revisionist history and no preaching about any social issue. Seems like that might make everyone happy.
