I'm a person who struggles with infertility and the shame is very real. I had my colon removed at 15 and the scar tissue wrapped itself around my fimbriae, sealing them shut. Things like what Gino said are not helpful imo. It's a bit dismissive and not acknowledging the reality. I think empathy and genuine realistic support are much better than empty platitudes.

Of course Emily’s parents love love Kobe, they keep letting them stay in the house after having tons of children after dad said NOT TO lol if he wasn’t so nice… they’d be out. he seems like literally the nicest guy we’ve ever had on this franchise. There were a couple cultural things (the breast feeding etc) but otherwise he’s never been terrible and he seems to work hard for Emily and the kids. HOWEVER, Emily. Stop having kids until you are settled elsewhere. Let your parents go on a damn cruise and not have to help you raise your children! They already raised their children!

Hey guys, I would like to know what the difference is between Ed and Liz’s relationship and Angela and Michael’s relationship, that you are willing to cover one and not the other? I do not see a difference between the two. Both are abusive relationships that have not improved. It is truly disturbing to watch Angela season after season verbally and physically assault Michael. They are the main reason I am not watching this season of HEA. The cycle of abuse is difficult to watch.

I am a true crime person too - years of Ann Rule books - and just had the experience of being up close and personal with a very recent murder. I know the murderer. I’ve known him since he was a kid. I know his parents. His siblings. It’s really strange to be on that side of it. He is mentally ill. Not that it excuses it, but it helps explain it, I guess. If you are curious, google Seattle axe murder Feb 2024 and it comes up. The details are gruesome. I feel so badly for the innocent man who died and also for Liam’s parents and family. (But anyway - SAME Poodle. I like knowing what makes people tick.)

I found Emily and her family to be SUPER cringey in Cameroon. I’m a white woman with a black boyfriend and I could barely watch. If my dad said “wakanda” while we were in Africa I would be absolutely mortified. They aren’t being outright disrespectful like Chantel’s family but there are definitely micro aggressions happening. Also, Emily has been with this man for how long?? And she doesn’t know anything about his culture? Has she asked him one question???

As I write this I am ensconced in my heating pad. Gino needs to suck it up and get a lawyer. This is a combination of him being cheap and a know it all. He thinks bc he’s done the k1 before he knows everything that goes into it. Not even thinking to check if there is something different you need to do if kids are involved. Jasmine never would have come over if she didn’t think her kids could come over shortly after. He deserved the treatment he got by that attorney.

I wasn’t as impressed by The Family Emily as was Mattie. Yes, it’s a good effort that Emily and family didn’t want to seem as if they were appropriating the culture. But still some micro aggressions were flying. The Lion King? Wakanda? Really? Africa isn’t this monolithic place full of magical black people ready to entertain “colonizers.” Emily and company seem better than their previous appearance, but still can do way better.

Regarding true crime consumption: I'm a Mattie but my husband has been watching distressing content on the internet since he was a tween. He says it helps him reframe his problems and puts everything into perspective. Work is annoying but no one put a tire around him and set it on fire today. I personally love a gratitude list written in a fun colored pen to shift my perspective but that's me 🤣

Matty you unfortunately need at least a cliff notes version of Jonestown just because it’s oddly prevalent in pop culture. Off the top of my head, it’s where the term “don’t drink the koolaid” comes from. (Although insufferable true crime nerds will quickly correct you that it was actually FLAVORADE). Heaven’s Gate and Manson family references are also pretty common.
