Stacy

Great episode! Great podcast! I can’t believe you didn’t mention what I felt was the mic drop of the whole show... Daddy Plath says to Ethan well I’m sorry i hurt you... and Ethan says “Nice of you to say that...on camera.” I DIED

Beth

Moriah said she was grounded when she wrote the song....what exactly could they ground them from???

Diana Grubbs

I would have paid money to have watched Reality Gays watch Plathville. My teenager let me know she would have “read” me like Poodle if I acted like A trash panda...AKA Kim.

Lauren Roffey

Olivia's basement flooded watching this episode back. I bet Ethan got the BJ of his life last night! The way he spoke about her and stood up to his parents was wonderful. I was so proud of him for stepping up like that!

Jennifer Riester

I've been trying to catch up on my Patreon podcasts in chronological order today. Darn you guys for being so efficient - I can't put off listening to this!!!

Taylor Wallace

You queens have turned me onto so many reality shows. This one was especially enjoyable. I know the new season won't be until the summer, but it would be awesome to hear y'all cover Below Deck Med (another show y'all turned me on to). Besides Watch What Crappens, there's really one one solid BD podcast, leaving a lot to be desired.

Tara

I was so proud of Ethan for standing his ground. I think Isaac is lacing up his sneakers and will be the next one out the door. My heart breaks for Lydia. She’s just so sweet and innocent and I just don’t think she will ever break free from the nightmare of her parents.

Katie

MY basement flooded when I watched this episode! Oh the beautiful and dirty things I could do to Ethan after this episode- wooooeee!

Jeannette Marxen

Wow what an episode...the parents were so triggering in this I’m not even thinking for a second that they might have any accountability for the situation and that is exactly what the flipping issue is!! They are so deep in their denial that they just act like Ethan’s off going through a stage when it’s their hatefulness and judgment that are the problem. I hope that Ethan got some closure. And am I the only one that wanted to wipe that creepy grimace grin off of Barry’s face in the driveway? And of course Kim once again has to steal the emotional spotlight with her fake cries. Oh and the ending....that was beyond the most bizarre thing I have seen. They are straight up cult! (Sorry, I had a lot of thoughts to get out!)

Jeannette Marxen

PS- there’s never too much singing!

Maggie

Me and the husband are obsessed with this show, while I’m sad to see it end I’m so happy for Ethan for finally telling his parents what pieces of shit they are. I was so proud of him during that, not only for standing up to his asshole father and mother but for standing by his wife and never faltering in his convictions. And also fuck Barry and his fucking smirk/smile, I couldn’t help wanting to punch his moldy face. Kim is a real piece of work, that whole ending scene with the food fight was confusing, she thinks something like that will undo the hurt and trauma she’s caused? Fuck her!

Maureen Cloonan

Anyone else notice how neither Isaac nor Larry (or whatever the older little girl's name is) comforted their parents after Ethan left? That spoke volumes to me. Lydia is emotional, so I understood her getting in there and Isaac is/was so close to Ethan that I understood him stepping back but it was glaring to me that Larry stood back too. I think the little girls they are trying to "protect" are a hell of a lot more aware of what's going on that Kim or Barry want to admit to.

Maureen Cloonan

She thinks she is distracting them from the issues but I think even the little girls have a much stronger grasp on what is going on that Kim thinks. I just posted here about how I noticed one of the little girls didn't comfort the parents after Ethan left. That was very telling to me.

Kait Marie

There are only two Mattie comments that have ever made me stop in my tracks with my mouth agape: (1) when Mattie told Poodle he was alone; and (2) this episode when Mattie told Poodle he was bloated from secretly eating at Mother Poodle’s home. My two favorite podcast moments haha

Elani

I noticed that too! Also based on the Kate Casey interview Ethan implied heavily that the older kids were in charge of the younger kids and basically raised them and that Kim gave birth and that was it. So I think the younger ones probably view Ethan as more of a parent than they do Kim or Barry. I think that’s also why Ethan is so angry he can’t be allowed around the younger get ones alone.

Elani

Ethan was on FIRE! Kim and Barry are always aware of the cameras that’s why they come of so phony. Another camera moment for me was Kim saying she was proud of Micha and MOriah. Really, Kim. No one buys you’d go see you kid play at a bar.

Leah

Couldn't agree more. When Kim piles on it was all theatrics. Just acting. Trying to foster sympathy. There is something SO unsettling about Kim and Barry. Bunch of sociopaths.

Leah

YES. My mouth was AGAPE for this entire scene. I am so proud of Ethan! My heart breaks for him 😭

Stephanie

Lydia is the only one who is bamboozled by the cult. The other kids, especially Isaac, are very aware.

Diane Aukofer

What show pod will replace Plathville on your Patreon? Below Deck would be great. Lot's of people to direct 🙄

Alison Batten

Isaac broke my heart during that final showdown. He’s at such a vulnerable age, and is obviously struggling with processing everything. But I loved that he pegged his dad extra hard with the pie at the end 👀 I also hope olivia recognizes and appreciates the decision Ethan made to choose her over his family however correct it may be....he is extremely mature and brave for doing that and I don’t think she gives him enough credit. This season she has come across a little patronizing at times and it appears the novelty of marriage to someone who has zero life experience is wearing off. I can see her leave Ethan in the future or cheat on him with a more “worldly” guy (which would be a huge mistake bc in the long run Ethan has amazing potential to be a phenomenal life partner and father).

Samantha Guzman

I truly feel like Mama & Papa Plath look at Micah & Moriah and think that even though they had differences, they’re still good, successful people BECAUSE of how they raised them. No assholes, it is IN SPITE of you cult leaders that these kids are growing to be such great people. That’s what I get out of that very accepting, proud conversation they had in the living room this episode.

Judy Kidwell

I was happy to see Ethan stand up to his parents but that last scene of pie throwing I just found weird! Not funny at all—just desperate people trying to act like they still know how to have fun when they obviously don’t!

Andrea Catherine

This mom is the biggest narcissist

Christina Kitzinger

I can not WAIT until Issac leaves this family bc he is the next one y’all!

Christina Kitzinger

Matt, you made me stop in my tracks when you mentioned we are the sum of every person in our life. WOW my life I changed. Thank you ❤️

Jenn

I'm with Jake: I hardly breathed during this whole episode. Although the word "triggering" gets used so much that it hardly has meaning anymore -- holy shit does this show trigger me. There are SO many parallels between the Plaths and my own family, but there's something about seeing my own experience reflected back at me from the outside that is very cathartic. The bravery of these kids essentially leaving a cult and confronting the cult leaders is just remarkable. I'm twice their age and I have barely begun to have the kinds of conversations with my parents and siblings that they have already sorted out. Altso: Kim is a deeply broken and vicious person, and is absolutely the neck that turns the head, as Ethan said -- but Barry triggers a very special kind of fear and dread in me. That smirking, snapping-turtle face of his is a mask that barely hides something dark and menacing. I have known SO many Good Christian Men that remind me of him. They are so full of rage and frustration, and they think they can project righteousness by just slapping a smile on their faces, but it doesn't come across the way they think it does. It's like experiencing the Uncanny Valley on a real person. We've seen maybe one or two brief flashes of genuine emotion from him in two seasons. He legit haunts me.

I’m only 33 minutes in to the podcast. David and I watched the show. This has been hard for both of us. Kim and Berry are just like David’s parents. David is 42 and is now in therapy because of what his parents did to him. His father will have that same smile of his face. His mother has never liked me. She told David is because I’m French Canadian and short. When we were pregnant with our first they tried to talk him into leaving me, when that did work to have an abortion. As good christians they’re against abortion but in the case of their son they supported it. At the time they were living in Irmo SC, we were in Canada. They took a plane to Canada to come and get him. He didn’t go. He was cut out of the family. As in all other family members were told not to talk with his. They told his grandmother that if she talked with David they wouldn’t help her and would never talk with her again. For years they would come up to see David, they never wanted to see the kids and I. He would have faith in them for them and destroy him all over, he never could understand why. He would tell them how it felt and they would do the sorry you feel that way BS. The kids know them as daddy’s parents. Our oldest is 22 and has made remark about how they were the people who wish we had an abortion. We didn’t have to tell her this, I’m told my MIL told her. In April when we were found he was in renal failure he called his mother. He was blamed for it. She email the family blaming him. Nope! This is genetic. Found out at that point she is in stage 3 kidney disease, her aunt was told she needed a transplant. She never told him because she didn’t think he deserved to know. She then made some remarks that she was surprised that I’m still with him given the fact he is sick. Now, he is in therapy. We watch this story line. My atheist soul prays that they go into therapy to deal with this sooner then later.

John

Omg I cried during this one a lot. As the Irish say, my bladder is close to my eyes but even so, wow. My wife was treated the same way. Ethan was strong in this. The parents are so terrible. Talking about Dads and sons fighting reminded me of standing on our stairs arguing with my Dad about needing to interview his assistant coach for a school newspaper article. I said something and he shot up out of that lazy boy, spilled his beer and came up the steps. Not sure what happened but he ended up at the bottom of the steps. He jumped up grabbed my shirt and pushed me out the door. Sorry that got dark. I will make it better now with a 😂😂

Enjoli Pickett

This episode is amazing!!! So glad to see Ethan come for them finally!

Ali D

When they were arguing about going to the car to talk to Olivia and Kim said “it’s up to you, you’re the head [referring to Barry]” and Ethan said “but your the neck - you control the head and we all know it” I DIED. Literally had to turn off the TV and just walk away. I was like “wow, who is this guy? It looks like Ethan but that doesn’t sounds like the Ethan we know!” and when Ethan grabbed Barry, I was just going crazy. I was like “who is this grown *ss man! I’m here for every ounce of it!” Kim and Barry may have raised Ethan, but getting married to a woman like Olivia turn Ethan into a man. I literally heard one of his testicles drop and it was a beautiful sound. I hope they give us a season 3...and I think Barry is more problematic than Kim. Kim’s issues are somewhat obvious, but Barry...that weird, inappropriate smirk is hiding a lot of darkness.

Jackie Schroeder

I do therapy once a week and this Patreon was more helpful to me than that’s been in months. Thank you.

Kelly Kelly

When Mattie was talking about parent's responsibility to at least comfort their children I was like yessss but then I said wait What if your child was LINDSEY

Ashley Mac

I’m late to the show but I have waited till the last episode to ask anyone else if it bothers the shit out of you when the kids refer to their parents in the singular form??? When Ethan was telling Micah and Moriah about the confrontation with his parents he says, “ my mom and dad”, “my siblings”

Caitlin Scagnelli

Omg, I got chills when you talked about the feeling of confronting a parent and realizing a line has been crossed, but even more so that another, even bigger, line has the potential to be crossed. Chills! And it's over 80 degrees in NC, so it's all you

Caitlin Scagnelli

PS: I also got a massive election when Ethan stood up to his dad 🤩💦💦
