Jazz Jennings was obsessed with mermaids while growing up. She says a lot of trans people gravitate to mermaids. Because mermaids don’t have genitalia. She made her own tail. It’s now in the girlhood exhibit at the Smithsonian

So my inner child cried watching this. We grew up going to a version of Weeki Wachee in San Marcos, Texas (it was called Aquarena Springs). It really was a magical place 😭😭😭 they even had a pig that would swim along the top before the show named Ralph. Sadly it met a similar fate and is now part of Texas State University... They still have glass bottoms boats though. The mermaid culture is still there! They have an annual mermaid parade and everything.
