Love it! Any recommendations on size/level of party?

Epic Quest

Hi Kishpa, I'm glad you like it! Short answer: I'll say a party size of four to six players at level 5 is ideal to start the adventure. Long answer: :) The pacing and progression of your Mount Grunhelm adventure can flexibly adapt to your dungeon-mastering style and the dynamic of your gaming group. Suppose you lean towards a fast-paced narrative filled with rich combat and lively social encounters. In that case, it makes sense that characters level up more swiftly, even if you're employing a milestone leveling system. However, some Dungeon Masters (like myself) may spend more than one session in specific maps or regions, whether for deep combat dives or extensive exploration, ...and let's keep in perspective that The Mount Grunhelm adventure is a three-part saga that spans more than 20 unique areas, offering a vast and diverse playground for your adventurers. From the thrill of battle to the profound interactions with the lingering spirits of miners trapped between time and eternity, your players' characters will have ample opportunity to hone their skills and gather invaluable experience. This adventure is not just a journey but a chance for your players to evolve and ascend from level 5 all the way to level 15.  As the Dungeon Master, you hold the reins of the adventure, crafting experiences that best fit your group's dynamic and challenge level. It's completely within your power to tweak monster stats (especially in the Boss encounters) to better align with your party's strengths and weaknesses. Adjusting the difficulty of encounters ensures that each session remains engaging and appropriately challenging, keeping the excitement alive. Whether it's adjusting hit points, modifying attack bonuses, or altering spell effects, these changes can make battles more thrilling and rewarding for your players. Remember, the goal is to create a memorable and fun experience for everyone at the table, so feel empowered to mold the adventure to suit the adventure needs of your group! As for the level range, this is probably the level range I would choose: 1. Mount Grunhelm - Starting the adventure with characters at level 5 would be appropriate. This part could focus on survival elements, initial exploration, and smaller combat scenarios that set the stage. 2. Thurin's Forge - As the party delves deeper into the forge and encounters more intricate puzzles and tougher enemies, having them around level 7 would be suitable. This mid-point offers more complex interactions and higher stakes. 3. Durgan's Reach - By the time the adventurers reach this final part, they should be around level 9 or 10. This ensures they are well-prepared for high-level threats, including the potential climactic battle with Magmara, The Flamebound, and the mine's intricate magical and environmental challenges. This progression helps maintain a balanced difficulty curve and allows for character development and a more rewarding narrative arc. Adjustments might be necessary based on how quickly your party progresses or their challenges. Still, this guideline should provide a good framework for a thrilling and balanced adventure. Thank you for your message and support, Cheers! David
