Centuries ago, the night god Xelvoran ruled over dreams, shadows, and the moon. His followers sought to harness his power to eclipse the world in eternal night. In their quest for control, they built a grand temple hidden deep within the jungle, shrouded in secrecy. The temple, bound to the moon’s phases, vanishes with the dawn and reappears only under the cover of night.

In a final, failed ritual, the high priest Aravos tried to bind the moon's essence to the temple, but it backfired, sealing the temple in a twilight realm. Xelvoran, furious and betrayed, cursed his followers and the temple, trapping them in a state between life and death. Now, on nights when the moon is fullest, the temple manifests in the jungle, beckoning those who seek its hidden treasures and forgotten power.

Hey everyone! I'm excited to share The Whispering Temple of Xal'Korah map pack, designed for a D&D 5e dark fantasy adventure. This pack includes detailed areas like the eerie Moonlit Veil, the treacherous Passage of Silent Reflections, and the ominous Luminous Obelisk for the final boss battle. Each map is filled with unique challenges and encounters to immerse your players in a mysterious temple that only appears under moonlight.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support—it truly makes these creations possible!

Cheers!
David

  The Moonlit Veil (Inactive)

The Moonlit Veil (Active)

The adventurers begin their journey at the Crescent Clearing, a serene spot in the jungle where the temple’s entrance manifests as the moon reaches its zenith. The clearing is surrounded by ancient obelisks inscribed with celestial symbols. As the moonlight intensifies, the air ripples, and the veil of magic shimmers to reveal a massive, stone-carved doorway.

The Echoing Steps

As the adventurers approach the circular platform at the heart of the staircase, they can see the arcane sigils glowing on its surface, giving off a faint, pale blue light. The balconies to the north and south are connected by bridges that cross above, casting long shadows below.

The Hall of Forgotten Faces

A vast hall lined with statues of forgotten kings and priests. Some statues have been worn down by time, while others are disturbingly lifelike. The air smells of incense and decay, and at the far end of the room stands a sealed door.

The Night's Mirror

A massive underground chamber dominated by a pool of black water that reflects the night sky, even when underground. A bridge of carved stone arches over it, but it is partially crumbled, forcing careful navigation.

 The Beast’s Den

The crumbling remains of an ancient hall stretch out before you. The ground is strewn with the bones of countless creatures, both humanoid and bestial, their forms tangled in death as they rest amid shattered wood and rusted metal debris. A thick, choking stench of decay permeates the air, making each breath an effort. Vines and moss creep over the weathered stone, nature reclaiming the space, while the remains of some massive, long-dead beast lie ominously in the center, its ribcage half-buried in the rubble.

The Shadowfang Lair

North of the Beast’s Den, you enter a dark, damp cave known as The Shadowfang Lair. The air is thick with a cold, oppressive silence, but every so often, a faint whisper seems to drift through the darkness, like the distant sound of wings or hushed voices carried.

 The Passage of Silent Reflections

Stepping into this long corridor, you're immediately struck by the unsettling sight of walls polished like dark mirrors, each surface reflecting your every movement with eerie precision. The passage stretches ahead, dimly lit by a faint blue glow coming from the stone ceiling above. As you walk, you notice that your reflections in the mirror-like walls seem to lag behind, moving just a second too late, their eyes unnervingly locked on yours.

The Path of Blood and Shadow

Beyond the mirrors, the passage leads into a narrow, winding maze room bathed in a dim, crimson light. The walls are slick with a thin sheen of what looks like blood, pulsing faintly as if alive. The floor is made of uneven stone, each step echoing in the stillness. Shadows cling to every corner, moving unnaturally and stretching toward you.

The Moonlit Altar

A large stone altar rests in the center of the east side of this chamber, bathed in a beam of ethereal light shining from a moon-like magic rune carved into the ceiling. The light pulses softly, casting long shadows on the walls. Surrounding the altar are several glowing moonlight-infused crystals, each humming with arcane energy.

The Luminous Obelisk (Inactive)

The Luminous Obelisk (Active)

The Luminous Obelisk (Final Stage)

The final chamber is an enormous, rectangular hall dominated by the towering Luminous Obelisk—a monolithic stone crackling with ethereal energy. Pale light from the moon filters through cracks in the high stone walls, casting long, wavering shadows. The obelisk is covered in glowing runes, each pulsing faintly with the power of the night. Surrounding it are intricate symbols etched into the floor, channeling power directly to the obelisk. Dark mist clings to the ground, swirling ominously as you approach.

New Mystery Chest Available!

I know the Mystery Chest should be a "Mystery" until you open it... but I'm just too excited about this one!

Read-aloud: As you step further into the chamber, a deep rumble vibrates through the floor. Suddenly, the ground cracks open, and massive, glowing crystals erupt from the stone, radiating intense heat. Waves of arcane energy pulse from the crystals, making the air around them shimmer with unbearable warmth. The temperature in the room spikes dramatically, and the once-dim chamber is now bathed in a fiery, blinding light. You feel the magic within these crystals surging, as if something ancient and powerful has been awakened beneath your feet.

NPAO Gaming

This is amazing. If it hasn't been said before, a new top level Patreon tier where *you* GM a rotating group of those supporters through one of your adventures...? Count me in!

PeteyDiesel

Pretty badass!!! Happy to support this level of map.

Epic Quest

Hey NPAO, Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm truly flattered that you'd want me to DM for you—it means a lot. A new tier for something like that sounds pretty good! It could be a great way to connect and share in the adventure together. If the time comes, I know I have your sword and shield. :) Thanks again for your support and positive vibes. Cheers!

Fendrel Drake

Wow! Your work is ALWAYS worth the wait/subscription, and this pack is no exception. I'm going to get immediate use out of these. So many wonderful, flexible rooms I can include throughout my campaigns. Excellent work!

Epic Quest

Thank you, Fendrel! I'm glad you like the map pack. I appreciate your support.

The_Sigil

Oh, believe me, I intend to use a lot of the maps and cinematics to try to run at least one West Marches campaign... so a rotating group of players. These are evocative maps and I think the cinematics just add to things. Only question I have is would it be possible to get cinematics for older maps that were created before cinematics started to be a thing (I'm not sure how hard it is to make the Cinematics though I hope you still have the models on which the old maps are based so hopefully it's relatively easy)?

Epic Quest

Thanks for the kind words, The Sigil! Well, the older the map pack, the more difficult it will be to re-open it and create cinematics for it. Some were created with software I don't even have installed anymore. :\ Please send me a direct message with what map pack you are interested in to see if there is something I can do. Cheers!
