What a way to kick off movie reactions. I love this movie. This set the gold standard for body horror. While other films have definitely had body horror in it (Re-Animator, From Beyond, Society), The Thing is a step above due to its isolation plot. The body horror sometimes comes second to the Invasion of the Body Snatchers-esque horror. John Carpenter is known for his horror and sci-fi movies, and was big filmmaker in the 80s and 90s. Notable works include - Christine (1983) - Big Trouble in Little China (1986, also featureing Kurt Russell) - Halloween (1978. Set the standard for slasher films for the next 40 years) - Escape from New York (1981, again with Kurt) - In the Mouth of Madness (1994) He's also known to do a lot of the music for his films, which is great.

2023-02-03 20:43:35 Alright, just finished watching the movie! Honestly The Thing is a bit of a cannonball in to the horror genre - if you can handle it, you can handle 90% of horror. B̶u̶t̶ ̶a̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶s̶a̶m̶e̶ ̶t̶i̶m̶e̶ ̶I̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶n̶k̶ ̶N̶i̶g̶h̶t̶m̶a̶r̶e̶ ̶o̶n̶ ̶E̶l̶m̶ ̶S̶t̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶a̶ ̶s̶o̶l̶i̶d̶ ̶y̶e̶t̶ ̶f̶u̶n̶ ̶f̶i̶l̶m̶ ̶s̶o̶ ̶w̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶d̶o̶ ̶I̶ ̶k̶n̶o̶w̶ A lot of other people posted great suggestions, so I'll just second Big Trouble in Little China. If you decide to do more horror (and if you don't feel comfortable, please don't force it) - well, I've got a huge shelf of stuff to pick from. >:)

Oh, one thing I love when people first watch this movie is the transition from "Why are they shooting the dog? Let the dog alone!" to "THEY SHOULD HAVE SHOT THE DOG" 🤣
