#Sorcererday Roguedown - (Vox Machina) Ohhhhhhh man it's the Scanbo episode! (Scanlan+Rambo) Bards get a bad rap in DnD. When Sam Riegel had Liam Obrien choose his race and class, he had said "I want to be the most useless character you can think of!" Scanbo, one of the most legendary parts of the Vox Machina campaign is like 35 minutes of scanlan BY HIMSELF taking on the entirety of the Duke's household guard and the Duke himself; taking that "useless character" and turning him into something truly formidable. It was WAAAY cooler in the campaign but they definitely did it justice here. The show makes it look like Scanlan just fell ass backwards into success without really meaning to whereas in reality, Sam Riegel is a GENIUS tactician. He has shot lightning from both his ass and his junk, affectionately known as The Cube(his junk is canonically 1x1x1 inch, thus making a cube). And "three deep in a brothel somewhere" definitely just means three DRINKS in 😂😂 They have to limit the characters' power to a certain extent in the animated series so other than the potion of fire breath, all the things we saw scanlan do through Potions are actually just spells he has access to.

There is some bonus material called The Lexington Letter for Severance. It is a short, free e-book that asks more questions than it answers, but is really interesting to read. It does not spoil anything in the show, but I recommend reading it after you finished season 1. Here is a transcript: https://severance.wiki/severance-_the_lexington_letter_transcript Edited to add: I found this with the MDR handbook attached for some extra background info: https://imgur.com/a/severance-lexington-letter-GOiKxEa

#SundayRundown- (Vox Machina) Arcane magic comes from manipulating an existing power that persists throughout the world. IDK if Exandria has an explicit name for it, but in Baulder's Gate 3 it is called The Weave. Similar to The Force from Star Wars. The other type of magic is Divine magic. Divine Magic comes from someone's faith, devotion or will. For example Pike magic is Divine Magic because it comes from her faith in the Everlight. Without faith, Pike's powers fade. Arcane magic has more utility and tends to be easier to learn/use, so more common. Hope this makes sense.

this comes from D&D rule book so probably not 100% in line with Exandria lore as written, but I think it helps people who don't know the difference from playing a class that casts one or the other

I loved your discussion Normies! I agree with Suraj that severance is scary for the outie as well. Imagine not having control of your body for 8 hours. It's like getting roophied! And Suraj's idea of the chips having a hard reset mode where the innies loses all their memories is scary AF! Of course, Lumon would need to fix how it looks to the other inners but other than that, it seems within the realm of possibility.

#SundayRundown Severance is such an amazing ride, and I'm so glad you guys are picking up what the show is laying out. Severance explores its concept and keeps showing you just how horrifying it is in it's entirety. The only reason it takes some people episodes before fully turning on the Severance procedure is that you can kind of see the good of it in episode 1. Mark, out of work, is severely depressed and living a hollow life. Severance gives him a day of work to 'turn off his brain' and not be an emotional wreck. Yeah, the argument is still there against Severance, but the fact there even is an argument is crazy once you have more and more context. Ben Stiller did an amazing job directing this series and I'm so excited for season 2. Great reaction as always guys!

#SundayRundown Severance Rana, Rana, Rana. I gave you an extra week, and both times you recognized Dichen Lachman from Agents of Shield. However, just like Tahmoh Penikett (Karl 'Helo' Agathon in BSG) you didn't recognize her from Dollhouse (her Doll's code name was Sierra). I'm officially calling out your Dollhouse fandom, girl! She was also in Altered Carbon, which along with Dollhouse, has some similarities with Severance. Also, it's worth noting that Petey sang the correct lyrics aside from one word. Metallica sings: And never mind that noise you heard It's just the BEASTS under your bed In your closet, in your head While Petey sang: And never mind that noise you heard It's just the MONSTER under your bed In your closet, in your head Just after this we saw Cobel go off and "extract" Petey's chip. Finally, yes Delaware is the state Helly R was able to name, and may well be where they are. This may be important. According to my podcast homies (Bald Move) from Indy (who grew up in a cult), Delaware is home to the headquarters of many tech companies due to the state's business-friendly policies and corporate court system.

#SundayRundown One of the most successful aspects of Vox Machina is how they “translate” magic from paper to screen: First, they show the source of magic for the different classes: Pike, a cleric, gains access to power through the worship of a diety. On paper, a character gets more power merely be leveling up; in character, a cleric may gain power as their faith grows. Keyleth, a druid, gains power from her connection to nature and the elements. I dont want to spoil the show, but her growth will come from better understanding how nature and the elements work. In particular, “Scan-bo” highlights how a bard’s power stems from performance. Music is the most common manifestation, but DnD is all about imagination. Performance may be music, or art, or dance, or whatever expression you want your bard to use. Sam Riegel, Scanlan’s player was a child performer on Broadway, he two Emmy awards, countless anime and video game and cartoon credits as VA and director, and he creates and performs much of the music of the show (table and screen). We might never see anyone on the planet with this resume, talent, and creativity play a bard. If you ever have time, and this is an offscreen thing due to copyright…there are hours long compilations of Sam-as-Scanlan singing at the cheered renditions of hit songs at table, to show how he’s giving the team inspiration in-game (and as part of semi-improvised ad reads) We dont have these in Vox Machina, so i’ll just finish off the classes: - Wizards gain magic through diligent study (nerds) - Sorcerers gain magic through the fortune of in-born talent (prodigies) - Warlocks gain power through contracts with more powerful beings (they’re sponsored) - Paladins gain power through conviction to a cause (could be religion, could be something else, like a King or an order or any ideal) - Rangers gain power through a mix of nature and skill (similar to druids)

Did I lose half of what I wrote and am now posting this on Tuesday? Yes, yes I did T_T #SundayRundown LTOVM. -Ages: as the show never makes this clear, Percy and Keyleth are both in their early 20s. The twins are in the later part of their 20s. Pike is in her 40s/50s, Scanlan is 69/70, and Grog's age is unknown but approximately less than 40. So yeah, it hasn't been too too long since Percy's family was killed. -Scanlan: IMO this episode is the first time they truly start to delve more into Scanlan's character outside of his role of comedic relief. I feel like so many people discount him because of the humor, but he's such an interesting character! -Also I wish Scanlan had killed Vedmire on the potty like Tywin lol. -Why the potions didn't last long: each round of combat in dnd lasts 6 seconds. So if you have a potion that lasts, for example, a minute, that feels like forever when playing dnd. But in real time, it's not much.
