Oz will return...in Buffy vs Idle Hands vs that movie where Carlton becomes a tick! Yes, the band is Dingoes Ate My Baby, but the music is performed by Four Star Mary. Also, the Twinkie scene took a number of retakes. Ugh.

I know Marketa is hating on Xander this ep, but if we aren't holding it against Buffy that she isn't into Xander, I don't think its fair to be upset with Xander for not feeling more than friendship for Willow.

its perhaps my favorite of the season. definitely my favorite of the fillers. whats there to hate? just enjoyable from beginning to end. got culture, some poc focus, mummy, romance, costume party. i cant imagine what anyone would complain about this ep

While the premise is intriguing and I like some of the parallels they make between Ampata and Buffy (being 16yo girls with an unescapable fate) it all feels a bit undercooked for me. It ends up being mostly a Xander episode and I don't feel like we really learn anything new or get much from his character that we haven't seen before. Xander is horny and falls in love with a pretty girl. In the end he shows courage. I wanted more then that. If anything, Willow is the one who gets more out of this episode taking her first step towards moving away from Xander. I'm also really not fond of the sexy foreign exchange student trope that was in every early 2000s teen comedy. I also find that all the parts that are suppose to be suspensful or scary don't manage either. The bodyguard attacking Buffy and Giles coming out of nowhere just looked a bit dumb. I do like that actor though (I think he's Jacob's father in Twilight). It also annoyed me every time they were entering that museum with no security at all and that people could just touch all these super ancient artifacts without gloves. I know it's typical Buffy siliness but it really bothered me here. Anyway, even a bad Buffy episode is still fun. I just find it lacking compared to other monster-of-the-week episodes.

Xander is the most confusing character on the show for me. At times I love him; at times I really dislike him. In other re-watches I've liked him in episodes I originally disliked him in and visa versa.

Oz! Finally! "Who is that girl?" An episode that doesn't really hold up well today, as Chris mentioned. Not one of my favorites, but I do like the parallels between Ampata and Buffy, and how she's not really a bad person to begin with. She just didn't get a chance to live her life, which is something Buffy is always yearning to do.

It’s kinda wild, even in a lame episode we still get so many things from the show Horror elements, comedy, goofy ass choreographed fight scenes, and some fun teen drama moments Nothing like it on TV in the 90s

welcome to the double standard that is silly humans. if a girl friendzones a guy, "its ok. just be her friend you jerk. she dont owe you her body" when a guy friendzones a girl "you're a jerk! be her boyfriend!" sigh westerners. how i dont love them. MAKES NO SENSE. they do the same thing with "he's ugly so what he is doing is creepy" "he's hot so what he is doing isnt creepy" plenty of examples of that in season one of this show. there is also the success of you and the obsession of those who are attracted to men (except me) who "love bad boys". ill stick to my goody 2 shoes boy scouts ala superman with genius IQs

outside of him dating ampata i didnt take this as a xander ep. to me its pretty evenly split. i can get the complaint of wanting more but its an hour long show with ampata as the monster of the week instead of repeating. i would have loved a 3 ep arc so we can get to know her more (love the actress and the character and wanted to learn much more about her culture) and yes that is jacob's dad from twilight. for me the good/pros out weigh the bad and any bad is just the tropes we have to deal with when it comes to network tv and buffy in particular. touch upon elements of the human experience that will carry over the entire season (buffy wanting a normal life and being a slayer weighing on hence her making her decision in the season finale) but not wrap it all up in this ep. the guest star being the monster of the week only gets a little development and then die! like the ep with the puppet. there is so much more to learn of his life since becoming a puppet decades ago and we will never learn it. it is what it is

"you cant be in love its been only one day". love knows no time or distance. love...happens. its litterally the title of mixx's best song. you can fall in love at first sight, first kiss, first dance, first conversation or slowly over time. it depends on how open or closed your heart is. as someone with an open heart: i fall in love very easily, long as you are a lovable person.

everyone has to eat. if its ok for angel and other vamps you like to drink blood and for you to kill cows for your burgers, its ok for ampata to kill humans to live. its the only way she can survive. lets stop the hypocrisy and double standards please. at least humans can CHOOSE to be vegatarians so.............who's the real evil ones?????? mmmm hmmmm

One of the worst eps for me. The attitude to the overseas students annoyed me originally and it’s even worse watching today. I also cannot stand xander’s possessive attitude over Buffy. It’s not cute. But Oz arrives so that’s a positive.

It's by no means the worst of the fillers - that comes next week imo. But it isn't in the same conversation as the truly great episodes Halloween, Lie To Me, Innocence, Passion, I Only Have Eyes For You, Becoming etc etc. I wouldn't even put it with the 'good' ones like School Hard, The Dark Age and What's My Line.

This really was probably the weakest episode to date in the show. Get ready though cause the season is about to be classic episode after classic episode Whether because of the impact on character/canon or just fun ideas (Halloween!)
